48380 NXT for best NXT clients
« on: May 12, 2014, 04:04:10 pm »

Congrats everyone on the launch of the Asset Exchange. I am still in charge of 48380 bounties for best NXT clients referred in this thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=412138.0; So perhaps it is apt to assess and distribute the bounty on the asset exchange launch day.

I will make a brief assessment and makes a suggestion to distribute the bounties based on the client's popularity as followed:

1. Wesleyh's client : NXT wallet for 20000 NXT
2. Graviton's client : Off Spring for 10000 NXT
3. Marcus3's client : NXT solaris for 10000 NXT
4. L8orre's client : NXT freerider for 8380 NXT

Feel free to make other suggestions and if wesleyh agrees I will transfer the total bounty to him for the final distribution following the assessment that NXt community like the most. Thanks everyone.

Naturally, I am quite enthusiastic about the idea!  ;D

I have done a lot of work under the hood of my client, and it is a pretty stable platform now. I just updated the screenshots with pictures form the live AE

However, this is not an an end user full feature client - it is rather a backend platform that requires some programmer savvy to run - at least at the moment.
I hope that I'll be able to make a self-contained release in the not too distant future.

Good part: there are 13 transaction types in Nxt, and I have built a generic TX class type that I subclass for each TX type - and 9 of these 13 are already implemented.
Today I hooked up the 'leaseForge' Tx, and due to the modular structure, it took just an hour to do that.
So the remaining four will follow shortly after the Amsterdam conference.

---> can do:
    TX_sendMoney_Sig = pyqtSignal(object, object)
    TX_issueAsset_Sig = pyqtSignal(object, object)
    TX_placeAskOrder_Sig = pyqtSignal(object, object)
    TX_placeBidOrder_Sig = pyqtSignal(object, object)
    TX_cancelAskOrder_Sig = pyqtSignal(object, object)
    TX_cancelBidOrder_Sig = pyqtSignal(object, object)
    TX_transferAsset_Sig = pyqtSignal(object, object)
    TX_setAccountInfo_Sig = pyqtSignal(object, object)
    TX_lease_Sig = pyqtSignal(object, object)

---> can do soon:
    TX_sendMSG_Sig = pyqtSignal(object, object)
    TX_assAlias_Sig = pyqtSignal(object, object)
    TX_vote_Sig = pyqtSignal(object, object)
    TX_poll_Sig = pyqtSignal(object, object)

So community, what's the response here? Is marcus3 still with us? If not his part could go to l8orre.

I have gotten a few emails about Solaris, because basically it now is not workeable anymore.
I have no clue where marcus is, but it's bad customer care just to abandon a project like this.

I would split his part over the others.

sorry if it looks immodest - but isn't Graviton quite successful with his IPO and isn't his client part of his multi-million Nxt business model?

1. I think offspring deserves it
2. Graviton should think about giving it back to community fund

I was requested for input, so:

- I would give Marcus his share despite the current state, if he cares to respond. He has contributed to NXT by developing the client in the earlier phase. I would consider 5k to 8380 NXT a proper reward.

sorry if it looks immodest - but isn't Graviton quite successful with his IPO and isn't his client part of his multi-million Nxt business model?

Offspring is free software provided for the use of the community. I have paid dozens of BTC for its development from my personal funds. I don't feel it has benefited me nearly as much. Whether it's part of my business model, you can say it is or you can say it isn't, both are right depending on who thinks and what he thinks. It isn't a black or white. However my experience with nextcoin.org taught me an excellent lesson: a prominent business operator can not be considered a genuine community figure, seldom even a benefactor, no matter what he does. There's just nothing you can do about that, because earning money and working for free are contrary to each other, and working for free is tightly associated to community effort in people's mind.

As for DGEX IPO being successful, yes indeed it was. However, although the 10+ Million NXT from sale sales are in my custody, they remain unrealized for quite a while and practically they're not mine until I'm no longer morally liable to the shareholders. Meanwhile, they're under clear and present threat of just vanishing one fine day, either through some kind of hacking or an incident that would force me to compensate DGEX customers. Sitting on such a hot pile isn't a nice job you know. I feel I fully deserve whatever will remain once I'm out.

If Offspring is awarded a bounty, I will give it to Dirk who has done all the hard work.

If we think of this as bounty to Dirk instead of bounty to DGEX, the answer is very clear isnt it?
Offspring was the first wallet that implemented bitcoin style wallet and stopped the FUD about NXT brainwallet being so hard to use.
That alone is worth the bounty in my mind, plus I hear it is pretty easy to use and a nice intro wallet
as long as it is open source, not sure what the issue is

Marcus3 definitely deserves a bounty for his work, but since he is no longer supporting it, i would put him on the last spot.

DGex had put out one of the really easy to understand and familiar client for the bitcoin/altcoin users, whether it helped his business more or not doesn't matter. Those contributed deserves more.

as for wesleyh, theres no argument here, he is the best for putting the most easy and elegant client out there today.

and for L8orre, he deserves something for sure too, but since its all technical i havn't really tried it.

so my order goes
1.Wesleyh
2.Graviton
3.L8orre
4.Marcus3

That is indeed a very much more differentiated picture than the somewhat simplistic on that I invoked in my post.
Certainly Dirk has put in a lot of work into offspring and the early days were very decisive, as jl also points out.
My concern there regarded a business oriented structure that just had made an huge ipo, but then again -it's not like that would be DGEX's property, but it is of course the stakeholders property...

yeah - my client is a bit ... not so much a client really, but a data-centric application platform for Nxt which also happens to have a few Qt-windows attached to it.
 Thus, the casual user can certainly not benefit from it, and that of course is a major focus when aiming at adoption and proliferation of the Nxt platform.
So in that respect, the other clients fit the bill much better than mine.

Because most people don't know about it?  If you release it as Android app in Android market, you should be #2 for bounty.

Currently we don't have an Android app

Yes please - make some noise about it!

This is the first time I see mention about NxtQQ - sorry for missing it, there is just so much going on!

How would you translate it? In german the saying goes: 'Klappern gehört zum Handwerk'

Might translate to: Rattling the pans is part of the cooking ?!?!  ;D  ;D

Thanks l8orre for dropping me a message. I have been dispatching

20.000 to wesleyh
8.500 to l8orre
and 2.500 to btc2nxt

all to your addresses at the signature. @Graviton, let me know your receiving address so I can send 10.000 to Dirk.

I will save the last 7.000 to Marcus. People could ask him to maintain the client when he appears again.

@wesleyh: I have to say the forum is awesome. It is so responsive that the post went through before i can blink.

I will save the last 7.000 to Marcus. People could ask him to maintain the client when he appears again.

I've actually made a compatible "view only" version for my own use, but for at least the next 6 months, I will not do another release.

I think that wesley's client is an extremely good NXT client for mainstream adoption and it is my believe that for the overall success of NXT other clients that do roughly the same thing are counter-productive. At least where we stand right now.

(Any Delphi developer who has a different view, can of course go on with it, since it's open-source.)

Feel free to either send me the 7.000 NXT as a reward for simply taking part in the race for the best NXT client or otherwise please send it to wesley. Either way is fine with me. :-)

Did UP ever send the remaining 7000 NXT nxt to you or wesley?

This was  not UP's money. It was donated by an original stakeholder
