Bounty Request For Nxt Wallet

Short description:
I would like to apply for a bounty for my Nxt Wallet software available at http://nxtra.org/nxt-wallet (downloadable) and http://nxtra.org/nxt-client (online)

The web version at the second link will be integrated in the official software at some point and become the new default, replacing the current NRS interface.

The downloadable versions are for windows and mac, with linux being possible in the future also.

I hope that I can get paid for the work I have done in the past, and the work I continue to do now and in the future. Up until this point I have relied on donations by users.

You can follow my progress here: https://bitbucket.org/JeanLucPicard/nxt/commits/branch/feature%2Fwesley  (no activity last 3 days since I'm working on encrypted messaging functionality).

Not all activity is listed there since I didn't use bitbucket the first few months. I have worked on this for a long time.

Upcoming features:

Auto update for windows version (mac version already has this)
Encrypted messaging
Wallet
Voting system
Any other new features added by JL/CFB like the digital goods store and pooled forging.
Multilingual
Fully themeable (partially now)
Much more small changes to the client, usability etc.
Easy to run over tor.
Testing suite via selenium.

I also plan on making browser extensions; lightweight clients that connect to public nodes, for all browsers. Possibly a windows 8 app store app too.

And some kind of addon functionality to allow you to install extra functionality (If possible):

Quote
For example, we could have an app for James' multigateway (since I'm not sure it should be installed by default - it's not part of the core). The "app", once installed, can add a link to the sidebar menu and when clicked will show it's contents in a sandboxed iframe.

Via the use of messaging the iframe will be able to communicate with the Nxt wallet itself, so as to check if a specific message or transaction is received, etc. The iframe will also be able to send a message to do certain things like opening the "Send Nxt" dialog with a specific recipient pre-filled.

Deadlines
I won't be providing deadlines, I will continue to work on this as I do now, the client is already usable, new features are added all the time.

Thanks for your consideration,
Wesley

You forgot one really important detail. How much do you want? Also did you add or change anything in the core? I think this may be outside of our bailiwick. Perhaps it should be placed in infrastructure?

Why should this be in infrastructure? Isn't infrastructure mostly about the network?

Regarding the figure, well, what do you (committee) think this is worth? I have spent a ton of time on this and will continue to do so in the future (provided a reasonable bounty figure).

It should come from the development fund.

And it's part of the core as it replaces the default client soon

My view is that Wesleyh is doing a very important and amazing work with his online wallet and I hope it does become the official wallet for NRS.

We should definitely grant a bounty for his work.

The question of "how much" I don't know. I would also think we could do this in stages, so give a bounty for the work done so far and then another when/if the wallet becomes the official NRS.

wesleyh's wallet looks way more professional than anything else I have seen for NXT and will undoubtedly be a big part of NXT gaining wider acceptance.  As for how much, I would think a large amount of NXT, at least 6 figures.  Looking at my analysis of the distribution of wealth in the Nxt community, the money is there and could definitely use some redistribution towards people putting in the time to improve the system.

Cheers,
David

Wesley is to modest to ask for a big bounty, but I think he truly deserves a big reward for the huge amount of work he's doing! I would say about 6-7 figures bounty.

Good job Wesleyh! Respect gast!  :)

Ok. Its a bit of an iffy case but i guess one can at least make a case for how this could in theory fall into our bailiwick. That's good enough for me. Draw up a more concrete proposal with all of the missing specifics so we can evaluate it.

What exactly do you need to know still? I thought I was pretty clear in the initial post. Thx.

lol well an amount would help for starters. also did you want to be back payed for work thats already been done? or did you want a forward facing bounty with pay outs for each of those features as they are implemented? or a hybrid of the two? if a hybrid how much dedicated to each?

If I said "ok i agree and sign off on this, pouncer please execute this initiative" pouncer wouldn't know what to do. it needs to be clear enough so that he does know precisely what to do.

Well, I think it's for the committee to decide, really. It would be a different situation if the project required fixed costs such as high end servers or to hire freelancers in order to get completed, this is why it's difficult to put a "price tag" on it.

So I would propose the following:

1) 100k NXT for the work already done (given that it's still in testnet and still under development)
2) 200k NXT when it gets implemented as the official NRS client

I am happy to hear different proposals.

My point is that I cant vote on a proposal that doesn't specify how much is to be payed. If someone else wants to come up with a different but similar proposal that does have specifics than we could veto this one and vote on that one instead i suppose. if we really want to go that route.

I'm sure we all know how important wesley's work is as the default client UI. I see no reason to get tightfisted on this, my view is that those money are for bootstrapping project features and the sooner they get spent the better.

I propose we increase the total amount to 500,000 NXT as follows:
  • 200,000 NXT to be immediately given to wesley for all his work until now
  • 300,000 NXT to be given once the first official NRS release using this client is out.

I'm looking forward to hear your comments on this.

0,5 Million NXT, that's a fair amount.

nexern was already paid 150K something like 4 months ago. He did not deliver on time, nor did he release a beta version for testing.

I won't pay him a thing

To be honest: nexern has already said as much himself, even going as far as paying back the donations he got for it.

Fair's fair. :)

Edit: also want to thank the TC for doing a good job and congratulate them on getting up to steam!
