Need help setting up a node on AWS.amazon
« on: January 17, 2015, 04:05:40 pm »

I tried to follow the instructions in this tutorial (http://wiki.nxtcrypto.org/wiki/How-To:CreatePublicNodeAmazonAWS) for setting up a NXT node on AWS.

I ran into a few snags and places where my experience did not match the screen shots. Step 8 in particular was problematic, as AWS did not allow me to set up security settings as the screen shot indicated. I ended up just skipping that step and moving on.

When I finally had my instance I ended up with one that was unable to connect to the Internet. I tried to use the instance explorer browser to download and install java but the browser wouldn't display any pages. It wouldn't connect to anything.

Has anyone here used AWS to create any kind of node? If so, would you be willing to take me through the steps? At the very least, can we have an update on the steps presented in the tutorial?

Thanks!

I can help you, but you must have some experience. Can you spin up an "ubuntu 14.04 server" instance and install Apache on it? If you can get that far on your own - there's hope. Post the link to the default Apache page (coming from your AWS instance) and I will guide you trough the rest of the steps.

I can give it a shot. I see that there are some tutorials available to complete both steps you mentioned so I'm optimistic. I'll get back to you once I accomplish the "assignment." Thank you for breaking it down for me so I know where to start :)
