My First Public NXT Node
« on: January 14, 2015, 03:12:02 am »

Hi,

I made my first public NXT node available yesterday (https://nxtforum.org/introduce-yourself/hi-nxt-community-7461/msg150229/#msg150229).

But, it's still not showing on peerexplorer. Could a port 7876 not being accessible online be the reason?

NXT Client and API is accessible via port 80. It seems to be working fine.

1. How long does it usually take to show a public node appear in peers list?
2. Is there any other any other website where I can see if my node is visible in peers?

3. Now that I have a public hallmarked node, what can I do next with it?

Cheers!

You should try to connect to your node from outside to port 7874.
http://ping.eu/port-chk/
If the port is open, it is a public node.

Thanks @egold,

I just found in the process of making shell script to automatically update SuperNet/NXT the nxt.properties file had no hallmark. Updated the nxt.properties file, and opened port 7874.

How long does it usually take to appear a node in peerexplorer?

Cheers!

peerexplorer doesn't see all the public nodes, I have two, it fails to see one of them. And it lists these outdated nodes from before 1.4, take its results with a grain of salt.
There is this site nxtpeers.com it shows more nodes, but I can't tell if all of them are public or not.

@grewalsatinder

I can see your node and it's also listed on peerexplorer. Search for 119.9.26.37.
If you want to have it display the DNS name you'll have to set the field announcedAddress to nxt.grewals.co

Thanks @LiQio,

Made the changes. Should be reflecting in next peer sync. ;)

The issue is to make it instant... every node must be sharing the same list of peers and also adding and removing them in a consenus way.
If you start your node you will see in the GUI peers tab that nodes get added step by step and every node is sharing a different list, that depands also what your nxt-default.properties settings are (wellKnownPeers, maxNumberOfConnectedPublicPeers, knownBlacklistedPeers  etc...). Long answer to a short question... if your node never was connected to my node you will not see it on peerexplorer.
As far as i can see 119.9.26.37 is in the list. So how long did it take?  :D

I dont delist them for a reason... if they want to run on a fork they have every right to do so, maybe they dont like the monetary system?
nxtpeers.com 1494 peers.... no comment  :D...

Check it instant manually.

Long answer to a short question... if your node never was connected to my node you will not see it on peerexplorer.
My node, at 82.0.149.148, is listed, but has been declared offline for a while. According to http://en.dnstools.ch/port-scan.html, port 7874 is closed, but according to http://ping.eu/port-chk/ it is open. It is listed by http://nxtpeers.com, but as version 1.4.9. That means nxtpeers has seen me since Jan 18th but not in the last 3 hours (I just upgraded).

I've not changed anything about my set-up this year; my IP address is dynamic but it hasn't changed. When peerexplorer had been as offline, I wondered if my ISP was blocking the port, but now I think there's just no consistency or logic to what the various sites report.

I dont believe your node is a "fully public" at this time, I tried going to http://82.0.149.148:7874 and I dont get any data.  for an example of what should happen in the case of a fully public node, go to the OPs node at http://nxt.grewals.co:7874 and you will get an HTTP 405 error message "HTTP method GET is not supported by this URL", this means its a fully public node (assuming OP has nxt.grewals.co configured in nxt.properties instead of his actual IP address)
