Nxt General Discussion / Re: Price speculation

About price speculation at this point. There are many surges going into cryptocurrencies in general from people who want more security then the general cash they have. It forces people to think through the 'what if' scenarios and that is causing bitcoin to go up slightly over the past days. You see a reflection of this upward trend with altcoins. Just as always they will follow whatever bitcoin price does. The thing that still bothers me is that Nxt is getting very little exposure in general and a big lack of interest. All of this because we lack overall marketing in my eyes and are to into ourselves. I posted topics about this before, so I'm not going to chat about it in price speculation but as far as price goes, it is on a very weak rise and I don't expect NXT to move a lot up over the course. Just basic stagnation for the time being.

I agree with much of what you said.  I think it's going to take a pretty big skyrocket of BTC for people to start getting interested in Nxt. There is a lot to love about Nxt, but we need a mass adoption of crypto and right now the entry point is BTC.  A few more killer Nxt apps would help as well.

Sidechains done - nxt ded?
http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/393h73/blockstream_to_release_first_opensource_code_for/

Sidechains is far from done.  Would be great if some of our tech guys took a look at the Sidechains code to see how difficult it would be to peg Nxt.
why do people think sidechains will have any negative effect on NXT?

first, it needs to be integrated into the bitcoin core code, which might actually happen after some minor debates.

At this point, what we have is an automated gateway into and out of BTC, but the actual sidecoin still needs to be made and what is this sidecoin? it seems basically it is another altcoin.

What are the pricing mechanisms? If it is fixed 1:1 with BTC, what happens if the security on the sidecoin is breached? what happens if the sidecoin supply inflates?

Do sidechains allow for 1 minute blocktimes in BTC? Will there be an AE? What new functionality will BTC + sidecoins have that NXT doesnt do 10x faster?

James

To me it's not really about what it has to offer that Nxt doesn't already.  It's about giving BTC holders easier entry access to Nxt.  I agree though there are many unanswered questions.

This is akin to saying you won't be getting out of bed tomorrow to have breakfast and enjoy your day because the sun will explode in a few billion years time.

Haha, I was going to say the exact same thing, it's kind of bush league for Telegraph to post crap like this, it's embarrassing.

Edit: this is who wrote the article: https://nxtforum.org/general/the-posas-%28proof-of-some-aged-stake%29-algorithm/msg176524/#msg176524

http://cointelegraph.com/news/114359/the-inevitable-failure-of-proof-of-stake-blockchains-and-why-a-new-algorithm-is-needed

Once again the Coin Herald Bugle posts an article that would be a decent parody... if these retards weren't "serious".

This is actually a perfect example of the web's "collective expertise"...
Where lowest common denominator opinion can be presented as "expert analysis"... and consumed as such.

The dude who wrote this is plays a mathematician, software engineer, cryptographer, journalist, etc on the web...
When, in reality, he is probably someone who flunked out of college, but has read a lot of BitcoinTalk...
And probably got paid maybe $10 to grind out this nonsense.

Now "collective expertise" is harmless and even useful in areas like pop culture and gossip...
But this concept also explains why, today, pretty much all anon coin projects are dismissed out-of-hand by PhD cryptographers...
Because there is no such thing as an "amateur" doctor or lawyer or physicist or cryptographer... just pretenders...
And most of the anon projects are the equivalent of a coder finding brilliant "solutions" that eluded Albert Einstein.

Shadow Coin could not even gather $1,000 together to attempt an "audit" by Isidor Zeuner (until talk of an "audit" conveniently went way)...
Notwithstanding the obvious reality that an actual cryptographer and internet security expert would not get out of bed for $1,000.

It was written by a former Nxt Organization member, Colin Lacina, whom I'm sure some people know here.  Anyway, the title and contents are pretty misleading.

And NEM released their technical paper/WhitePaper

We need Come-from-Beyond

What does NEM's whitepaper have to do with CFB?  His work on Jinn will benefit Nxt.  I do miss him  :'(

So is built-in mining something you were considering for the Jinn chip?

Jinn is much bigger, it's decentralized processing/computing.  The more Jinn processors running the faster your personal processing while using minimal resources.  It's the Ternary model, which doesn't maximize profits for chip makers like Qual and Intel who rely on selling processors with capped capabilities but instead relies on a collective group of processors with infinite capabilities.  I suppose you could mine, but not really sure.

Intel is scheduled to release their new x86 SkyLake microarchitecture in Q3 2015. Among other interesting features, it will introduce SHA extensions that will allow hardware acceleration of the Secure Hash Algorithm family, including SHA256 as used by Bitcoin.

I believe the coindesk article is a very incomplete picture of what 21 is trying to do.  Regardless, it's all pretty fascinating.   :)

I can't help but feel that this is the time to buy, although I've certainly been proven wrong in the past. All the fundamentals are there though. Nxt is worth more than $8.5 million. I'm thinking about going all in. Who's with me?

Ethereum is 94% done - https://github.com/ethereum/go-ethereum/milestones. When it hits the market, I think it will have a big impact to all coins. It might have been impacting the market now.

Yup. But which way?
Pattern has so far been: Frenzied IPO. Period of silence. Frustration at delays. Rumours of incompetence. Launch. DUMP!
This is almost all projects, not just Ethereum. I'm not sure that the crypto world is mature enough to support such a big project yet. Too full of pumpers expecting fast returns. NEM is a recent example.

As CFB would say, no one has use for complicated AT in crypto, look at CIYAM's project, it's been disappointing how few people care. Holding/Spending Bitcoin is about as simple as it gets, yet 95% of the population still doesn't get it.

We're seeking a fullstack dev (JAVA, HTML5, JavaScript and SVG/CSS) for a tool we need developed for Jinn.
PM for details

Did you guys find a full stack dev?  Or should we continue to put the word out?

Is there a trading thread for NEM?

I saw they have a trading sub forum

Thanks, I'll snoop around.

https://forum.ournem.com/trading-and-exchanges/trading-thread-3228/?topicseen

It just opened up, mainly because somebody was bragging about how they had a ton and would sell at 50 Satoshi's.  So he was challenged, and of course didn't ever post.  But now that it is up, it will probably get some use.  Jaded Jack is good for escrow.  And of course Anon would be fine if he has NEM going which I think he does.  If they weren't around, I could do it.

Thanks Jabo
