Nxt Improvement Proposals / Re: The end of DarkNXT
« on: December 10, 2014, 12:22:02 pm »
NXT get lost caused by reasons stated in OP. At point x in the future all NXT are lost. No NXT, no fuel.

The world will end long before all NXT are lost :)

Can someone please help explain the recent sell pressure on NXT. Why are people selling?

FYI - I'm a long time holder, just trying to understand.

When price goes up, people think it'll go to the sky and hurry to buy, when it goes down, they think it'll go to zero and rush to sell. But the price always stays somewhere in between zero and the sky )

General / Re: Place of Full Nodes in the NXT Network
« on: December 08, 2014, 02:18:18 pm »
Thanks for the answers. But NXT client always says "connected to the peer IP.ADD.RESS". Do those IPs belong to public nodes, then? Because as far as I understand, non-public nodes don't talk to each other directly.

And one more thing: Is that also the case with bitcoin? Or is it something NXT has introduced?

If you run a non-public node all the 'connected' peers under the Peers tab in NXT client are public nodes (port 7874 opened for incoming requests), otherwise your PC couldn't connect to them. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but that's what my test revealed, all of them have port 7874 opened. Non-public nodes don't talk to each other directly - yeah, that sounds logical and is my understanding too, and how could they if their communication ports don't accept incoming requests.

Bitcoin should be the same, it's the same opened/closed port principle.

Once you bought the equipment to mine or purchased NXT to forge, if it's PoS you have a fixed cost of electricity of running a node ($20/month for a decent node) and no other fees.

In PoW you need to upgrade your equipment every 6 months to be able compete in the mining race, spend time to maintain the hardware, electricity fees increase as you compete to gain a larger share of hashrate to mine the same amount of coins as before (some of the electricity fees may be offset by more energy-efficient ASICs, but I would guess there is still an increase). In short, it's a nightmare. Only few large datacenters could survive in the end and then they could all be easily coerced to make a PoW crypto centralized and regulated.

It doesn't take a professor to see which is unsustainable and which has a better chance to win.

Why Bitcoin is unsustainable by a UK university professor. Not that somebody here doubts that, but still an interesting watch ;)

When a non-public node needs to propagate tx data to the network, it can upload data to public nodes only, because non-public nodes have the port 7874 closed and wouldn't accept the connection. Likewise if any node needs to download tx data, again, it's downloaded from the public nodes with the port 7874 opened.

Public nodes are like hubs through which all data travels. Thus the place of public nodes is very important, the network couldn't function without them. The more public nodes there are, the stronger the network, and there aren't many public nodes now. In that sense a public node has more weight on the network than a non-public one, as more nodes 'talk' to a public node to maintain their copy of the blockchain.

You mean price could go up are u sure ı think this coin is end finish even lando dont trust his app and coin nothing developing in there that was big bubble and finish nobody dont know why price drop everytme attenon other assets and nxtty it s always dropping ı dont trust anybody and anything related with nxtty and lando

I don't know, dude. It's hard to be sure investing in cryptos, or anything for that matter. So far Nxtty is one of the very few delivered working and actually useful products among all assets, if you ask me. It does its basic function, the rest is bells and whistles, they are important too, but the basic function is there and it works. That proves to me that NMAC can deliver on the promises.

Nobody knows where the price will go obviously. I don't expect any crypto project to take off big before October 2015 as I believe cryptos are in the first bear market. Bear markets usually last long enough (~2 years on average) to shake out weak hands. Before October 2015 there is plenty of time to develop Nxtty and other crypto projects into something advanced, slick and user-friendly. Before October 2015 prices of crypto currencies and various crypto projects should remain stagnant as I don't see wide adoption happening before then, just because populations are not motivated yet.

If you're in a hurry to make a profit, you better sell now, the price could drop even lower, so you could lose even more.

I get the argument, but doesnt the stagnant low price keep people from buying (like "if it's still that low, there might be a reason for it...")

It only keeps away people who buy into hypes and bubbles - buy high, sell low types :)

12
so whats the reason for the price drop?!

Market returning to rational thinking = fair valuation level. As more functions are added, the price could spike again because people would see more value in this asset.

If you guys want to know who is lowering the price, you can follow the BTER deposits and see that is nearly ONLY mining asset issuers that are dumping on BTER. NOBODY else is selling right now. Without those assets I would guess we would be in the 6000sats area

It's good for distribution  ;)

the good ol': It's actually good news!

Who wants to support PoW mining buying mining assets? PoS weak hands. Who buys NXT from them at the exchange - PoS strong hands. Bullish! :)

you're assuming that the investors aren't ever going to make a 100% or more return?

I figured not and sold all shares for that first mining asset in summer :) Besides, I really hate to support PoW mining and yes, it puts a negative pressure on the price.

I'm just a bit worried that development has somewhat calmed down over the last weeks - sure, some minor upgrades and bugfixes, but overall I miss the spirit of last year/beginning of this year.

Same is for promotion - why should NXT rise in value if masses cannot be attraced?

Dont get me wrong, I'm a big fan of NXT, I just dont see how Average Joe and friends would invest in NXT - also over the next months (of course, this applies to all crypto currencies).

Does it take another Snowden blowup to get the attention of the masses for crypto?
Or how will people come to realize what advantages NXT&Co have to offer?

It will take another Cyprus style event but at a more massive scale to drive people to look for other solutions, including cryptos. Many non mainstream (free from official propaganda) economists predict this is to start happenning in the 4th quarter of 2015. There you go, this bear market in cryptos will go on for another 10-11 months, most cryptos will trade sideways at best till then.

Nxt Helpdesk / Re: Transaction Fee 1 Nxt ??
« on: December 05, 2014, 06:58:32 pm »
The question is when. :)

$0.08-0.10 worth of fees per block is the threshold, below which the number of forgers goes down. Unless the number of txs per block goes up or price of NXT goes up, or both, the current 1 NXT fee is just right and shouldn't be lowered.

:)
This is pretty cool.
One question - why would you lock a large amount of NXT into a currency? It seems that you could create a coin with just 10 NXT or something, since they are highly divisible. Is it simply that it gives a floor value to the coin (i.e. 10 NXT), whilst the upside is unlimited depending on its use?

If the amount of locked NXT is too small, users could perceive this as a joke and not use it at all. It depends on the price of NXT in the first place. It probably won't work to lock 10 NXT, when that money can't even buy you a loaf of bread, and expect this new MS currency to take off big even if the use case is outstandingly unique )

Alternate Cryptocurrencies / Re: Digibyte
« on: December 04, 2014, 10:32:21 pm »
VCs invest millions in Bitcoin, so what :)
Digibyte will die just like Myriadcoin which it inherited multi-algo from, nobody really cares about multi-algo mining. Yes, it's more secure, but that's the hypocrisy of bitcoin miners. Besides, any PoW crypto is vulnerable due to the fact that miners and users/stakeholders are essentially separated groups in their motives and actions. This Digibyte could get hyped short-term though, you can try to play it if you're a day trader.
