Nxt General Discussion / For the love of BCNext lower the fees!

block reward would encourage to hoard coins instead of offering bounties.

This is already the case without block reward. Whales keep hoarding because their stake grows by itself every day. Lowering the fees would help Nxt grow. DO IT!

Nxt Client Helpdesk / Java connects to random localhost 51xxx port?
« on: October 07, 2014, 03:01:00 pm »
I'm using the latest Wesleyh Nxt Wallet app with NXT 1.2.8 on OS X 10.9.

My firewall constantly notifies me (more than once a minute) of the Java process connecting to (or getting connected to from) a seemingly random port in the range of 51xxx.

Is this Nxt? I'm not running any other Java applications.
If so, is it important?

Java is on my firewall's whitelist but for some reason these connections get blocked anyway.

Proposal to begin officially releasing another version of Nxt, where NRS web interface is replaced by wesley's web interface, alongside normal releases of the standard client.
  • Replace NRS web interface of the Nxt client with wesley's web interface.
  • Release the modified version of the client alongside standard releases, labeled as appropriate.
  • Shortly educate people of the differences between the two, in the download section of the nxtcrypto.org

Wesley's web interface has been commended for it's clarity and user-friendliness. It is already a drop in replacement to NRS and no major bugs have been discovered to prevent it's use for the stated purpose. As such, providing an official experimental release with NRS replaced by it, could help improve the first impression of a new user and generally bring fame to the project.

I believe that improving the current state of the user experience of existing features is highly important and perhaps, should be a priority above that of adding new features. Releasing an official client with wesley's web interface is such a small step waiting to be taken, yet a giant leap in user-friendliness.
