https://ardorportal.org

I've started developing a block explorer for Ardor.  It has a similar look and feel to Nxtportal.org but under the hood it is a complete rewrite from the ground up. I will be adding lots of bugs and features over the next few months.   ;D

I keep seeing this log message in my testnet instance, are these nodes on a fork?

I've been wondering about the future use of the name "Nxt" as we move to 2.0 aka Ardor.  Clearly there are worthwhile rebranding efforts with Ardor, but how much will the new name replace the identity of Nxt?  I initially thought Ardor was more of a release-name / name for the snapshot tokens.  Is the intention to get rid of the name Nxt forever and let it die with the old 1.9 chain when Ardor is released, or will Ardor also continue to be known as Nxt 2.0?

Thinking about what it means for nxtportal.org and other sites (nxt.org, myNxt.info, etc.)

Nxt General Discussion / Runescape "NXT"

Nothing to do with the crypto, though I wonder if NXT would be a good fit for the Runescape MMO economy...

NXTPortal.org / Nxt blockchain download

I've uploaded a compacted full copy of the Nxt blockchain to Amazon S3 cloud storage.  It contains up to block 1005300.  The link is available on https://nxtportal.org/resources.

Nxt General Discussion / Amazon/Google/Facebook & lessons for Nxt
« on: January 17, 2016, 03:00:40 pm »

A friend forwarded me this the other day and I've been drawing some comparisons to Nxt.  The article describes how Amazon has succeeded in achieving accessibility with what can be characterized as an (internal) decentralized ecosystem.  It's a good read for anyone building software and provides some insights that may benefit Nxt development.

It's called Accessibility, and it's the most important thing in the computing world.

The. Most. Important. Thing.

https://NxtRC.org is a WebRTC network peer server.  It connects clients to build a decentralized p2p web-browser network that supports direct & broadcast messaging, p2p file transfers and uses Nxt accounts for identity management.  Connected users can authenticate using their Nxt account and the client has built in support for validating Nxt auth tokens to make it easy for users to verify identities.

No messages are sent through the server, it essentially acts as a broker for connections between peers.  All messages and file transfers are sent using a WebRTC DataChannel directly between the web-browsers of peers, and a websocket connection remains between the peer and the server for notifications and peer list updates. Connections between peers use DTLS and are expected to provide the same security as SSL/TLS, however I make no guarantees for the security of communications as this should be considered an alpha release of the software.  WebRTC is experimental technology and is only supported in Chrome, Firefox & Opera right now.  Since connections are established directly between browsers, you may be unable to connect if you are behind a company/restrictive firewall.

Some more info about WebRTC -
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebRTC
http://www.webrtc.org/faq

The server is connected to a Nxt API and I added a rock/paper/scissors mini-game for testing/fun.  I have plans to expand this in a number of ways but right now I could use some help testing basic functionality.

Hey everyone, I'm very excited to share the news that our Kickstarter campaign went live last night.  Voxelnauts is a sandbox MMO that will use Nxt as an "economy engine" for its universe.  We have been building the game for the past year and are trying to raise the additional funding needed to launch, so please show your support and help us get the word out!

Additional video updates will be posted soon, stay tuned!  :)

http://nxtportal.org/chat

I just released the latest version of nxtportal.org with a chat system that uses Nxt auth tokens for authentication.  If you use an account with a name it will display as your username, otherwise it will display the RS account ID.  Instructions are on the page, any feedback appreciated!

Monetary System / New MS coin idea
« on: March 03, 2015, 02:38:52 pm »
"Mineable" - a claimable coin that has all the NXT locked by the issuer when it is created, and can then be minted.  The users who mint the coin can directly redeem it for NXT.  Basically it would be a combination of claimable and mintable.

Right now its not attractive to mint an MS currency unless there is a market for it.  With a "mineable" coin the value of the MS coin is locked at creation so the minted coins value should track with the NXT price.  If the NXT price increases, the coin will be more valuable to mint and should attract a lot of minting activity, esp if the issuer sets a fixed or low diff range.

Also, it would be awesome if the issuer could continue to issue additional coins so long as they are at the same ratio, but possibly allow them to specify a new diff range for each additional batch.  I am picturing a forging pool that automatically converts collected fees into more mineable coins.

General / NXT stake-grinding attack?
« on: February 26, 2015, 02:33:09 am »

In its initial incarnation, NXT was susceptible to a trivial stake-grinding attack (to be described below) and could not achieve any consensus. Since becoming closed-source while spamming technically-illiterate claims at popular conferences, it has fallen out of scope of this document

Does anyone know more about the stake-grinding attack referenced here?  Does the "initial incarnation" refer to something that happened right after NXT was launched?

Nxt General Discussion / Leasing experiment
« on: February 19, 2015, 05:33:42 pm »
The top NXT account (NXT-THLJ-CYAL-JQST-6FNS5) has around 50M NXT.  What would happen if the account owner leased their entire balance to a known account, i.e. one with the passphrase "password" (NXT-CXG3-3YUF-XQ85-HDK5L)?

Their balance would remain safe, and the insecure account would get all of the tx fees.  They would probably be swept right away and possibly cause a race of transactions competing to be the winning sweep tx every time a block was solved.  Also, since anyone could log in with the account and forge, multiple nodes would be forging with the same account and each attempt to broadcast valid blocks and a subsequent sweep tx for the fees before each other.

I'm wondering if this would ultimately have any value or whether it would effectively become an attack on the network.  Thoughts?

Nxt Monetary System / NXT monetary system = decentralized mining pool
« on: January 14, 2015, 03:07:59 pm »
This decentralized mining pool allows users to create their own currencies and exchange them with other users, all within the same system!  It's amazing!   ;D

Edit:  It becomes more and more apparent that NXT is one of the first fully functioning decentralized public corporations, which I can't help but think is really cool.

Monetary System / Mintable MS currencies and nothing-at-stake
« on: November 13, 2014, 03:37:20 pm »
The MS documentation states that mintable MS currencies will be secured by NXT forging, not by the proof-of-work.  But why not utilize the proof-of-work for an additional consensus rule to check when accepting a competing NXT blockchain?  Since the PoW of mintable MS currencies is recorded in the blockchain, we could add a rule for NXT to accept the blockchain with the longest-chains for all mintable MS currencies active at the time.  A nothing-at-stake attack would then require a number of proof-of-work sub-chains to build a valid competing NXT blockchain.

Old Nxt Promotion Topics / When promoting to developers...
« on: November 03, 2014, 03:07:27 pm »
Make sure you show them to the NXT API test page that is built into the client:  http://localhost:7876/test

According to the changelogs it was first added in 0.8.10 and has been in the README.txt since 1.0.0, but my guess is that a good number of developers may not know about it.  I only noticed it about a month ago and I wish I had been aware of it earlier.

Has any bitcoin mining gear been sold for NXT yet?   ;D

I have 3x 60GH BFL Singles available.  They are my original units from the first batch purchased directly from BFL.  Looking for 1500 NXT each, or 4000 NXT for all 3.  Free shipping in the continental USA, buyer pays for international shipping.  PSU is not included.

I hope this is the right forum for this post, perhaps we should add a marketplace sub-forum?

edit - prices updated

Meta Nxtforum / Edit post unavailable?

Did something change in the default permissions so that I'm no longer able to edit my posts?

I have a project thread where I was updating the original post with version history, but unless I'm missing something, it no longer appears that I can edit the post.
