Pub crawl / This is what is wrong about Bitcoin (amongst others)

Just look at that mining farm and think about all the wasted energy  :o
I'm no tree hugger, but this much waste almost makes me want to cry...

Nxt Client Helpdesk / Large 1.5GB nxt.h2 database
« on: August 25, 2014, 08:31:08 am »
Guys, I have always upgraded my NXT Wallet through the GUI.
I now have a nxt.h2 database of more than 1.5GB. This version is at least of 1.1.6 (currently running 1.2.6).

I spoke with Qwitnix and he also sees this behavior on one of his machines.

Are there other people who have always upgraded there NXT Wallet and kept the database? At least from 1.1.6 > 1.2.5 > 1.2.6.
How large is your database?

This could become problematic over time.

Assets Board / James' assets
« on: August 07, 2014, 07:58:28 am »

since a lot of questions are being asked about assets and their issuers and since no one has asked you in public:

- what kind of safeguards do you have in place for when, god forbid, something were to happen to you? (I'm not even mentioning getting hacked)
You have so many assets and are involved in so many, possibly life threatening, projects...
- do you have people whom you trust to access your accounts in any way?
- would you be willing to cooperate with an asset rating site?

Trading & Exchanges / Mechanism to expire / rename / change AE assets
« on: July 28, 2014, 07:49:21 am »
I've been thinking of a way to maintain changes on the AE.

Would it be possible to add a second Asset to the AE with a certain string in the description field (example: chgnxtasset) so that the client picks up on this string and overlays the original asset with those changes? This "delta Asset" would only be valid if it is issued by the original Asset issuer. The changes would only be visible on the client side. If someone looks at the blockchain itself, it would see both assets of course, but my guess is that almost everyone uses the NXT Wallet.

In short:

1. Original Asset with description "This asset rocks!"

2. Issue second Asset.

EDIT: see post below this one. It has to be Asset Id, i.o. based on the Name, because the Asset Name is non-unique!

3. Client reads string, sees it is for "AssetRocks". First string after chgnxtasset is the new Asset Name. Second string is Asset description.
The strings can be expanded to whatever is agreed upon.

I don't know if it is possible to issue the Delta Asset with zero Quantity, to prevent people from buying this asset? (or issue just one asset which the issuer buys himself).

Deutsch (German, Swiss, Austrian) / NXT Video auf Deutsch
« on: June 28, 2014, 06:46:58 pm »
Hallo Leute,

sorry for typing english, but my written Deutsch ist leider nicht so gut...  :-\

Could you have look at the translated text from the latest NXT video and let me know what to change?
I had it translated by a German relative.
You may respond in German because I can read it just fine.

Perhaps I'm going to have this one translated to German as well.

Vielen Dank!

NXT. Putting you in control of your money.

Marketing Fund Committee / translation of NXT videos
« on: June 26, 2014, 09:08:38 pm »

As you might know I'm busy translating the latest NXT video: "How does it work".
I've already translated this video to Dutch and the text is being translated to German tomorrow. French and Spanish will follow.

I have no intention to apply for a fund, since it is to difficult for me to give deadlines (to dependent on a lot of people) and give cost estimates (I'm always looking for better price/quality).

Although I'm not looking for a fund, I still would like to be reimbursed for the real costs: text translation, voice-over, some audio editing (again dependent on the delivered material).

Is there somewhere where I can apply for this?
Costs so far: voice-over € 181,50 incl. tax

A bit extra would be appreciated since it takes a lot of time to get everything together: translate texts, audit voices, contact people, edit the audio. Dutch was the easy one, since I could most of it myself, but still it took me 4-5 hours.

Meta Nxtforum / Ignore button
« on: June 07, 2014, 11:41:44 am »
Could we please get an ignore button on this forum.

There are too many posts from certain persons that I do not wish to read / scroll past.
They occupy valuable screen space on my small screens and I hate to scroll  ;)

Nxt Client Helpdesk / nxt.usePeersDb = "true" takes minutes
« on: June 01, 2014, 06:09:50 pm »

why is it that my NRS version which I'm trying to run on a NAS takes minutes (up to eight) to get passed nxt.usePeersDb = "true"?

If I set this to false, it simply flies and immediately starts scanning the blocks.

(EDIT: I read that setting to false is ment for test purposes)

Alternative Clients / NXT client for a NAS device
« on: May 21, 2014, 01:16:49 pm »
Is someone working on this at the moment?

Would be pretty cool, since those machines are on 24/7 anyway and all of them have more then enough computing power.
If someone would develop a Synology and Qnap version that would take away the need to have an extra device running.

Hi Guys,

Would it be possible to build a client which can have with multiple wallets open at the same time?

Right now I have to log out of my wallet to access the next one.

Old Nxt Promotion Topics / Scratch cards
« on: April 19, 2014, 12:04:37 pm »
Hi guys,

A while ago I had the idea to create scratch cards, like from the lotto, as a give-away at events and conventions.

The way it works is quite simple: we print a random generated 30 character pass string under the scratch part and fill that account with the amount of NXT which is printed on the front.
I thought of printing a small how-to access this NXT, mainly a referral to nxtcrypto.org.

My brother made a few mockups:

I've also been toying with the idea to elaborate this:

Under the scratch part is no NXT pass-phrase but a code which can be turned into NXT through a website where you can transfer it to your own NXT wallet. The website contains just a database of the random codes and the amount it represents. You will be asked to type the code from the card, confirm the amount, type your wallet address en presto!

But that's for later.

Let me know what you think of the idea and the mockups!
