LIQUID / Re: Dividend Day!
« on: September 02, 2016, 05:54:01 pm »

There are two options I see right now:

1) Raise more funds and continue going
2) Liquidate with a buy wall at the liquidation NAV price and let people cash out.

Some might wonder why not an option 3 where I just keep going with the small capital I have right now. Answer: Even though these are bots (automated trading) it still takes time to watch them, watch the markets, make sure they're running right, pay for the servers, answer questions about the fund, etc.  I'm not financially able to do all that for just a few bucks each month.

What I need to know right now from investors is "would you put more money into the fund if I kept it going at let's say 30-50NXT / share?".

If people still have faith in this system and we can raise another 100BTC or so (a little dilution), we could start making some money again.

Please post thoughts.

I might be interested. 1 btc worth. Can you explain or direct me me to the down and dirty version of what this is and past performance.

Nxt General Discussion / Re: Price speculation
« on: August 26, 2016, 02:17:58 pm »

The price should continue to slowly fall, day by day, in a linear fashion in lockstep with time until the snapshot period ends. If a whale wants to sell, there will always be buyers to step in at a price that corresponds with the intersection of value and remaining snapshot days.

That's sort of mature stock prices change with a dividend's "ex-dividend date".  I don't know if applies here though.  Alt-coins are much different.  They are far more volatile.  A lot of their value depends on how familiar the rest of the world is with the tech , e.g. Dogecoin relative success seems to be merely a result of people liking the name and branding more than the 100s of other similar bitcoin clones it out competed.  The new attention Nxt is receiving lately because of this interesting "3 months ex-dividend" may actually increase the value of Nxt over that time period.

As soon as I made that post the price turned around and proved me wrong. Heck, I'm glad I didn't predict the price would further fall. ;) And I'm happy to have it go against the ex-dividend date theory.

That means that the price shouldn't go lower... ;)

I'd like that!

Just for some perspective, the price was 3.500 a week after the snapshots began.

The price should continue to slowly fall, day by day, in a linear fashion in lockstep with time until the snapshot period ends. If a whale wants to sell, there will always be buyers to step in at a price that corresponds with the intersection of value and remaining snapshot days.

The snapshot period will be at its halfway point in 4 days (Aug 28). There is still a lot of ARDR tokens to gain in the 2nd half of the snapshot period if the NXT price were to dip below a perceived fair value.

I'd like to remind the lottery rules:

Check off the Encrypt Message box, the message must be publicly visible on the blockchain for transparency.

Encrypted attachments will not be processed, funds sends with encrypted attachments will be considered donations. Some people send encrypted from time to time. Don't unless you want to make a donation.

How can one tell (after the fact) whether or not they sent an unencrypted message?

August went from about 60btc profit to 50btc loss is one day. What happened? :S
Price on both the asset exchange and Poloniex have also plummeted.

Just yesterday Poloniex announced they are delisting LQD (among others). I wonder if it's related?

Here is a post I made about Poloniex's delistings: https://nxtforum.org/index.php?topic=11763.msg223654#msg223654

Nxt Asset Exchange / Poloniex to Delist Certain Assets and Cryptos
« on: August 23, 2016, 01:48:17 pm »
Yesterday Poloniex announced they will delist the following instruments from their exchange effective on 9/5/2016:
  • ABY, ADN, BITUSD, CNMT, DAO, DSH
  • FIBRE, FLT, GAP, GRS, HYP, IFC
  • LQD, MCN, MINT, MMC, MNTA
  • PIGGY, PTS, SILK, SWARM, WDC
  • XC, XCR, XPB, XUSD, YACC
I'm guessing some of these are contained within the more popular indices listed on the NXT Asset Exchange. No other details were given.

Can anyone explain me the next sentence?:

Once we get to the 50% mark, people will start to weigh the advantage of selling Nxt "while you still can" to the value  of having more Ardor. No one wants to be the last person out. So its really a game of chicken at this point.

One theory that exists is that when ARDR is distributed (based on your NXT holdings) there will be less incentive to holdl NXT. Some will want to get ahead of the curve and sell their NXT prior to the distribution. In this scenario they will get less ARDR but maybe sell their NXT at a high pre-distribution price vs a maybe lower post-distribution price. Whether that is at 50%, 75%, 95% or doesn't happen at all remains to be seen.

Don't spend all your money. Gambling is addictive :)

At a cost of .35 USD to play, I have worse addictions.

Do I need all four of those programs? Can I uninstall any of those?

You only need Java. You can uninstall the 3 other programs.

I uninstalled the 3 non-Java programs. Works fine without them.

New NXT user. I bought my first NXT coins a few weeks back. I use Windows 10.

This was my experience and process.

I had been using the NXT wallet and server v1.9.2 and I downloaded the blockchain. I'm not a programmer or super techy but I'm adventurous. I was able to get v1.9.2 working after downloading/installing these programs. Here's what they were:

  • Java Version 8 (build 1.8.0_102-b14) from the java website Java Platform (JDK) 8u101 / 8u102 JRE version
  • Oracle VM VirtualBox
  • Kinematic (Alpha) Docker Toolbox
  • Docker Quickstart Terminal

A couple of days ago v1.9.2 became unstable. :( It wasn't forging, there were flashing red visuals and it was constantly disconnecting. So today I set out to upgrade to v1.10.0e. I first downloaded bitbucket.org/JeanLucPicard/nxt/downloads/nxt-client-1.10.0e.zip

When I ran the .exe file I got an error message saying I needed to install Java. ??? Because I already have Java installed I downloaded bitbucket.org/JeanLucPicard/nxt/downloads/nxt-client-1.10.0e.zip

I ran that .exe and it worked. :) I was back in business with a fully working NXT desktop client. I copied no files over from v.1.9.2. Fortunately, I didn't need to redownload the blockchain and all of my previous settings and bookmarks and info carried over.

Do I need all four of those programs? Can I uninstall any of those?

I don't understand how you fixed the missing Java error. So you first downloaded nxt-client-1.10.0e.zip and you got the error, then you downloaded the same thing again and it worked?

Oops, I made a typo in my post. I did not download the same link twice. The second time I used this link: bitbucket.org/JeanLucPicard/nxt/downloads/nxt-client-1.10.0e.exe

The first one was a .zip and the second one was a .exe. I expected the .zip to have everything I needed but like I said, I got the missing Java error. I don't know what was special about the second link I used but it solved the problem.

Did you also get the Java error?
