Core Development Discussion / Re: Nxt 2.0 design

NXT and fNXT are the same.

But they will clearly not be the same. You can't force two different things to be worth the same value.
Don't want to upset you :D But: why not? NXT is made out of code, and code is written by someone. If you define NXT=fNXT it will reguate itself by the amount of fNXT beeing hold. fNXT would be just "locked NXT for forging". The benefit would be that it would make NXT special in the world of sidechains as you can always convert 1:1. And you have not another layer of inflation and no AE holders complaining about unfair distribution. But for sure, in this case, the question is how many people are willing to hold fNXT for forging.

Quick question, hope this was not discussed before: Can't the value of NXT and fNXT be sticked together? Make NXT and fNXT exchangable - always - in the client - 1:1 ratio. No conversation about a fair distribution - everybody who wants fNXT can exchange it at some time or revert it back to NXT. And there is no inflation in the ecosystem by a *2 factor because of new fNXT. At least this will make NXT something special and not just another sidechain which hopefully gives it some value.

This can't be done as the two tokens have different functionnality and therefor different market value.
I think it could be done, for sure they have different functionality and market value, but it will regulate itself by the amount of fNXT in existence - I would say.

Sorry it can't work like that economically, you just say yourself, i.e. different function ans market value, so 1:1 exchange is non-sense. The one more valuable will be exchange for more wealth than the cheaper one. So 1:1 exchange will never happen, unless someone want to loss money.

Well, not too sure, I am not talking about fNXT as an asset or so. Think of it from another viewpoint. NXT and fNXT are the same. NXT and fNXT have the same value, always, because they are 1:1 convertible. You would convert to fNXT if you want to forge (because you would like to support the platform or earn TX fees). If the value of NXT goes up people may sell fNXT or hold less fNXT, sure, but everybody does. I consider fNXT as "checked out NXT" or "locked NXT" for forging but it has always the same value than NXT itself. The problem may be that only few are willing to hold fNXT because there is no huge return except the TX fees, but the more TX will happen the more people may be willing to also hold fNXT and forge. I think it could be worth to consider it.

Nxt General Discussion / Re: [CORE] Get ready for Java 8.0
« on: March 23, 2015, 08:18:36 pm »
Hi folks,

as the new release 1.5.0e slowly approaches, you need to get ready for Java 8.0 by the time we upgrade to the 1.5.x series.

I can imagine some folks of you need more time to get this ready and test your environment well; thus this announcement.

Cheers,
Chuck

Thanks for the info. For anybody interested, I recommend this for Ubuntu 14.04 or Linux Mint

If someone prefers OpenJDK8 instead of Oracle in Ubuntu 14.04, i have used this link: http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2015/01/install-openjdk-8-ubuntu-14-04-12-04-lts/

ok, it's far much much better but who cares ?

Well, I care - and I hope a lot more people do!  From an environmental point of view every single watt of wasted energy matters.

i just got my rpi2 this week and tried to run a NXT node on it..
its ridiculous slow :( downloading the blockchain for 24hours now and still on block 200000
why is that so slow?
It needs to process all transactions, to speed it up download the blockchain from http://peerexplorer.com (at the bottom of the page) and copy the content of the .zip into the  db folder of your node.

- just to inform:  if that person wants to expand the project to Monetary System, I can provide the  "NSC" currency for free: http://nxtportal.org/currencies/7065800721230128103
Yes, abctc would be so kind to give us a nice currency for free.

These are my thoughts:

Current Asset NSC
+ Well known
+ Ready, no extra work for EmoneyRu
- Not well tradeable

New Asset NSCng
+ Well tradeable
- 1000NXT fees needed to issue
- New Name (I personally do not like a new name in this case)
- TX fees needed to swap form old to new Asset for existing owners
- More work for EmoneyRu - needs to agree

Currency NSC
+ Well tradeable
+ offered for free (maybe 4NXT to reissue)
+ Same Name
+ COOL features possible (think about a FR and lock some NXT and give NSC a base value)
- TX fees needed to swap form old Asset to a new Currency for existing owners
- More work for EmoneyRu - needs to agree

They're all trying to get people to mobile payment solutions - when we'll see the "NXT Pay" App?  :)

But if i lease out my balance it will not be added to the target accounts balance. I think i'm still securing the network because i have prooven to have a stake and therefore no interest to do something harmful for nxt.

@EmoneyRu: Please forget what i said in this post, mixed the balances up, sorry, "guaranteedBanlance" only would be fine! Thank you!

13
I would like to re-discuss if "effectiveBalanceNXT" is the correct value.
If currentLesseeRS is POOL then take guaranteedBalance else effectiveBalanceNXT. OK?
So, unless the original creators of this asset had another intention, the NRS client suggests that regular balance (= included in a block, but could have 0 confirmations) is the way to go.

Both options would be fine for me  :) , if the NRS client is just using the regular balance i would tend to do the same and always use "balanceNQT". As far i can see there is no danger to cheat the system by using the regular balance, or would someone see a problem with it?

Weight is used by Nxt's core. As I've shown here there is a problem with NSC + weight, that's why, again, the easiest but adequate way is to just forget about them.
Agree.

Thanks!

Dear all,

I would like to re-discuss if "effectiveBalanceNXT" is the correct value.

The original article says:

How much NSC you earn depends on the stake you have in the NXT community!
        - less than 1000 NXT: 0.02 NSC per day per node (for the small stake holders/ node owners)
        - 1000 - 9999 NXT: 0.5 NSC per day per node (normal)
        - greater than 9999 NXT: 3.5 NSC per day per node (more trusted nodes)

I have not so many NXT in my account, but slightly more than 9999. This should entitle me to get 3.5 NSC/day/node. With my amount of NXT i will not forge a block soon and therefore have leased out my NXT to a pool. Even if i still have >9999 NXT available for use (still have a stake of >9999NXT), as soon as i lease my NXT to a pool, the effectiveBalanceNXT will be 0 and i will only get 0.02 NSC/day/node form now on. I doubt that this is intended and suggest to use the "guaranteedBalanceNQT" (i think this represents my stake) instead.

Hope you agree...

Cheers
McFly

I tried it once and will use it again. Fast, very easy, no registration, no login, no problems. A bit more expensive compared to others, but I'm happy that NXT is supported.

I'm planning to be a distributor.

great, thanks EmoneyRu!

.. I can't sent NXT to such an account without knowing the public key.
- Yes you can sent NXT to account without knowing the public key. Just do not send encrypted message in that tx.
Could you explain? I have not yet looked at encrypted messages closely but will they not work without a public Key?
- when you are sending NXT to account there is an option to send a message. By default this message supposed to be encrypted. This won't work with account  that do not have a public key yet. But if you choose an option not to send a message, or not to encrypt, then you perfectly can send NXT to account without public key.

afik you can't encrypt to an account that doesn't have a public key announced because the public key is used as key to encrypt the message and can't be determinated by the address only.
But honestly i havn't tried that in the client yet.

I can't open your pool now ,what happened?
::)
Website is indeed down

same here - and it seems as if the pool isn't generating blocks today...

This is very cool! Thanks for your work!
I found a minor typo: The max. lease time is 32767 blocks, the text in vapor wallet currently says 32676 blocks
