What are you up to lately?

Same as always. Taking long term positions where I think I see value. Quietly and patiently watching and waiting.

Haha, yes. You were one of the first faces I saw talking about Nxt on Youtube. I was impressed about the tech after that and I invested a bit in Nxt.  :-*

Oh yea I remember that. That was a good interview. I was basically just translating cfb into english. That was fresh off of having a very involved conversation with him that I somehow managed to actually understand ;D. Man that guy has the patience of a saint. He doesn't ever show an ounce of frustration, he just answers every question in turn the best he can. Like a robot. A slightly confusing but very determined robot. Suppose its all outdated now though with the implementation of hash chains.

Nice to hear from you! I fixed the link in your post.  :)

Thanks. :)

Funny idea. What is your country of residence? What about stolen or undelivered mail?
Also tell me more about your silver bullion project.

U.S.A.

Yea something is going to get undelivered at some point. Its inevitable. I just hope it is a sufficiently rare occurrence to allow the idea to still work.

As for the question of theft prevention, allow me to quote my thread.

Quote
Gold senders will be required to take a few basic precautions against theft from postal employees. To do this, take a stack of several sheets of paper, fold the stack in thirds, and tape the gold well to the inside of the bundle. Place this bundle inside of the envelope rather than leaving the gold loose and tumbling around. The thicker the stack the better.

The silver bullion project never gained traction and so is now defunct. Sad really. It was such a cool idea. I think.

If you could do me a favor, if you were planning on replying to this comment, and if its easy for you to reply on bitcointalk, it would be awesome if you could do it in the thread on bitcointalk. I need all the bumps I can get. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1179847

How the economy of the game will be link to Nxt? Only from NXT token or there are something else, like in-game market manage by the Nxt asset exchange?

The main way we will be using Nxt is as a registry for user created content in the game.  In Voxelnauts, players can create their own artwork and import it into the game - furniture, weapons, animals, etc.  These creations can be assigned an ownership title that exists in the Nxt blockchain, and players can buy/sell/trade their creations directly on the Nxt blockchain if they like.  The game universe will simply reflect the state of ownership for certain items based on what exists in the public ledger.

We are also planning to use the MS but with a limited implementation initially.

will players be able to build assets for the world and then sell the assets to other players in exchange for nxt? what about property rights? can anyone modify anything? so like if i make this amazing castle can people come along and donk it up? if there is something akin to property rights can property be bought and sold with nxt?

Nice to see you back around :)

Thanks. I might follow this thread a bit. Nxt is pretty amazing tech and still none of the big guys in bitcoin seem to realize it. Really smart people dont understand that the proof of stake problem has been legitimately solved and it is a much better solution to byzantine network consensus than proof of work.

This TF discussion got me thinking...

about the whole PoW vs. PoS debate.  And, I'm not sure I've ever seen this point made.

It seems each algo attempts to solve a different consensus problem:
1) PoW solves consensus with anonymous actors
2) Nxt PoS solves consensus with predictable actors

Therefore, the problem(s) being solved are not the same.  Does this impact the PoW vs. PoS debate in a meaningful way?

If they were predictable than it would never work. You need unpredictability inorder to have security. In nxt, unless something has changed, this comes from people dropping off the network in unpredictable ways within a given 1440 block period, enough of them doing this to make it functionally imposable to account for all possible permutations. f(x)=cost_of_guess*2^number_of_actors_who_go_offline_unpredictably (within a 1440 block period)

Some have called this deterministic randomness. I like that description.

Now transparent forging deals with how do we predict who will author some blocks in the near term will still being unable to predict who will author them in the longer term (thus allowing us to retain the sort of security that is a function of the description outlined in the paragraph above)

That sounds a lot like how forging worked before transparent forging.

Lol, that's because it is the same.  Forging is transparent and always has been.

If you instead refer to TF as it relates to instant transactions and fixed block intervals, then no.  TF has not been fully implemented.

Maybe in some philosophical sense its transparent, but its not functionally transparent, not in the sort of way that would be useful for instant transactions. In order to do instant transactions you need to know for sure who is going to be the next X number of people in line to forge a block, not who is entitled to author blocks. This distinction is everything.

But yea I dont really want to into debates over the minutia, i just heard from CFB that TF had been implemented so i was curious how that was done. If you want to say that it was always transparent, yea ok maybe, but its not what i was interested in if that is the case.

so i heard you guys ended up getting transparent forging working. how did it end up working? hashchains? does every forger make his own hashchain? do they submit it in a block and give it time to get buried beneath a lot of blocks before they can use it? what do they do when it runs out of "links"?
http://jnxt.org/forge/
the NRS isnt fully using the data yet, but anybody can see the next block to be forged
better here though
http://nxtportal.org/forgers/

So what happens if someone on that list drops out? Does it change all the forgers after him?
the first eligible one to submit a block generates the block. One account will be the first (ok, could be multiple accts eligible at the same second, but usually there is separation) and if they are forging, the block is created.

which then creates a new set of generators for the next block

If a generator doesnt, then more and more other accounts become eligible
In other words, the first one in the list gets to forge, if he doesn't, then the 2nd one can do it instead a bit later. Each new block the queue of forgers gets regenerated.
yes, if you just look at the forging pages it makes it really clear how it works
there is some math that changes after each block for each account, essentially randomly, but the random number for each account is multiplied by the stake, so the more NXT you have the sooner you become eligible. As time passes, the threshold for allowing a block to be forged is lowered (or the magic number for everyone is increased), so eventually accounts start becoming eligible

That sounds a lot like how forging worked before transparent forging.

Does anyone have any idea why my transaction with 469 confirmations http://www.mynxt.info/transaction/6572373837824290066 is showing up as an unconfirmed balance in the destination address here http://www.mynxt.info/account/1571292249217699638?

Sorry, that's because the Final Balance field is actually the "guaranteedBalanceNQT" from the NXT API, which means it has to have at least 1440 confirmations.
I think we should change it to the normal balance field to make it more clear :)

Ah ok thanks.

Technical Development Applications / Re: Hiring Devs for NXT
« on: November 13, 2014, 07:24:25 am »

I propose to hire lyaffe as a Dev for NXT, same conditions as for kushti, a recurring payment of 50,000NXT per month released by Pouncer regularly.

I propose ti hire lyaffe as a developer for NXT using the same arrangement as already exists for kushti.

The arrangement with kushti has proven itself very successful.

lyaffe has contributed over an extended period of time to NXT and is reliable and well respected by the other Devs.

recurring payment of 50,000 NXT starting with October 31st or Nov 1st, depending on Pouncers schedule (can't remember right now)

one time payment immediately of 50,000 NXT for work already delivered

Cato Institute Researcher says BTC is doomed to death by centralization.

http://www.cato.org/multimedia/daily-podcast/unfortunate-future-bitcoin

Won't surprise many here.

He may be right. However if he isnt, its probably because to small individual miners, the heat waste byproduct can be a benefit not a cost, where as to a large mining firm it is invariably a cost. If we can get to the point where ASIC's are on the cutting edge of chip fabrication, and ordinary people can still afford them, than it would make a lot of sense to buy a miner to heat your apartment if you live in a cold climate. And sure there are large economies of scale in fabrication, but where are there large economies of scale in mining? 2 asics dont produce 2.1 times as many bitcoins as one asic simply by virtue of being next to each other.

Topic: Buy and Sell Bitcoins for Cash Deposit Into Bank Account

I'm considering dabbling in buying and selling bitcoins for bank cash deposit if anyone is interested. Lets start out at say 5% over spot for purchases and 5% under spot for sales and see how it goes.

It's a little bit more than coinbase charges but you won't even have to have a bank account for purchases and you wont need to do any of that onerous registration and compliance stuff. I'm basically going to treat it like I'm a localbitcoins vendor. This service will be for friends not the whole world. The moment it gets big enough that I start getting worried about drawing the attention of the jackboots I'll just raise my prices until the volume comes back down low enough for me to feel like I'm safely flying under the radar again.

I bank at wells fargo. If sufficient interest is shown than ill expand out and open accounts in other popular national chains.

Anyway do leave me any feedback you deem valuable. Thanks!
