BTC has serious problems.

Agreed. I despise Bitcoin as much as anybody but it's currently virtually impossible to avoid using it if you're into crypto.

The cost per transaction is going up at rapid speed. I'm paying $0.20 per transaction lately!

OMG, you might have to sell your Lambo if it goes on like this!   :D

You could do it offchain with a new exchange and avoid transaction costs but then you have counterparty risk.

Fiat, well, prepare to fill in many forms if you want to launch an asset!!! You may also need a huge pile of money to get it done.

Trading volumes have dried up on the AE. An exchange is useless if it doesn't have any volume, decentralised or not.

i don't think liquidity is a problem as the platform will use btc and fiat also. these currencies are def more liquid than nxt  ::)

I agree with that. NXT is dead in the water right now and it remains to be seen if it can be revived (I doubt it). The move towards BTC and fiat is definitely the right thing to do.

I'm with you, coinomat. I've been annoyed with the direction NXT is taking for quite some time and I think you're doing the right thing!

The key question here is - do devs agree to this?
It would be nice to hear what they think.

I propose to vote on significant new features
Yes, but how the votes should be weighted to accurately reflect the need for, and the benefits/cost ratio for the new feature is the tricky question.

and API changes
No. Design by voting doesn't work.

I've read through the transcript and the takeaway message for me is that Jean-Luc doesn't think it's practical for jl777 to abandon NXT and thus he says it's my way or the highway. Sorry, but that's no way to run a project.

Due to this, I am rethinking my reliance on NXT for SuperNET. I have quite a lot of code that takes all my time to create and to be assured that I will have to keep reworking it forever due to backward compatibility breaking with each release. This is not practical for me.

Quite right. I wouldn't put up with this either. To simply pull the rug from underneath everybody who relies on them is stupid.

I wasn't around the last time when they promised to maintain backward compatibility, but if it's true and they broke their promise then it's best to move on. It proves that they can't be trusted.

No, it's perfectly fine for me. Might be a problem on your end.

I see that people have started to dump NXT but I'm holding, for now. This is clearly a very divisive issue and it should be decided by the forgers. I would welcome a decentralized market with open arms if there were effective means to prevent the listing of unsavory content like child porn, hard drugs, and weapons. Since FreeMarket doesn't have such means it should be kicked off of NXT.

If it doesn't get disabled then I have no choice other than to join the dumpers. I will not support FreeMarket in its current form.

This discussion shows to all of us that Freedom != Democracy

Your own freedom ends when you encroach on the freedom of somebody else.

The only thing you can do is sell all your NXT before it is shut down by gov.

Exactly, that's what I'll have to do. But I really like NXT and I wish it wouldn't come to this.

FreeM would take NXT through the roof, if the illicit item traders will adopt it and if it stays decentralized.

No, it would kill NXT. All high-profile illegal markets will be shut down eventually. Evidence: SR1, SR2. People said "It's decentralized!", "It can't be shut down!", "Blah, blah, blah!" and look what happened.  ::)

U don't understand how SR worked/works, do u?

I do understand it, and I understand that NXT is more decentralized, but you are deluding yourself if you think that NXT is invincible.

Voting system = Dangerous..  Two wolves and 1 sheep voting on what's for dinner..

I don't understand what you mean. In my opinion a voting system based on 1 NXT = 1 vote is a must. The people who own the system should have the ability to remove offensive stuff that would otherwise bring NXT into disrepute. I have invested some serious money into NXT and I don't want my investment to be destroyed by people who don't own any NXT but who offer child porn or crack cocaine. The message should be loud and clear: GO SOMEWHERE ELSE WITH THAT BULLSHIT.

A good read for a Friday night
http://blog.pebble.io/post/100702644738/on-sidechains-bitcoin-maximalism-and-freedom

about why having competition between crypto is a good thing.

Thanks for that, it is indeed a good one. Bitcoin seems to have lost its way and is heading more and more towards centralization. The correct strategy for Bitcoin would be to embrace altcoins by joining the SuperNET (which does much the same as sidechains but in a decentralized way).

Bitcoin wouldn't be worth as much as it is without altcoins. Altcoins are Bitcoin's killer app and they don't even realize it! To trade/invest in altcoins you need to have bitcoins. Without altcoins Bitcoin would be very boring indeed.

Anyway, I lost hope in Bitcoin a long time ago and I don't invest in it any more because of its obscene waste of energy and its lack of progress. I only use it to transfer money between exchanges and I hope that one day soon all important altcoins can be traded on the NXT asset exchange. This and an alternative gateway to the fiat world would make Bitcoin obsolete, at least for me.

I can just delete everything and download a new wallet and enter it using my password?

Yes, that's what I would do.
