MGW is an asset that owns part of the MGW operation.

mgwBTC is the MGW in operation. The MGW converts BTC into Nxt assets and allows BTCs to be deposited and withdrawn. Owning mgwBTC is equivalent (as long as you trust the MGW will continue to work) to owning BTC. See also mgwBTCD and there will be many more mgwCOIN as more coins are supported.
