Faucets

Just an observation:

Promotion is one of a few vital items to the success of a crypto currency.I have seen just two faucets and they both have the same problem:

When a person trys to avail of free coins, they always return with: You have received coins from here before....

So if you happen to live in a small country like the Philippines with basically two network providers, Globe and Smart, it means that once a person gets some coins, he will then screw it up for all who follow him. Once a user from Globe and Smart avail, the whole IP pool is then disqualified. That is to say I doubt that no more than a few people can ever take advantage of it in the PI. Other small countries show this symptom as well. It is far better to not offer free coins than to implement it in the current fashion.

To the normal user, this really looks like BS and is probably just a scam...

Like I said, just an observation.

I thought the faucet at nxtra.org (the only one I've tried once) would recognize multiple requests from the same person by email address. If it's been done by ip adress then it's really bad. Imagine a big company which has outgoing connection with one router, everyone in this company would have the same ip...
Is nxtra.org one of those faucets you've tried? Maybe wesleyh could tell something about it, I think he runs the site.

This is something I have been feeling since the beginning, there is no simple way to get NXT. I believe that you should not have to ask for free NXT but rather pay a small fee to get them, to avoid spammers; and I believe this should be easy as counting 1 2 3.

But be aware, people are very anxious when they have to deal with FIAT, because the FIAT to NXT passage is where regulations are the hardest. However, I suppose that dealing with small amounts, less than 100 USD, would not be attacked by governments, not yet at least. And also NXT is still very very small, for the moment BTC get the attention.

Until now, nobody in this forum has found an easy way; they will tell you have to get first BTC, then BTC to NXT, doing all this through established exchanges, via your bank account. As you see, not very decentralized !

So if someone has ideas how to do it in PI, and in the rest of the world ?

The objectives :
  • small amounts
  • no banks involved
  • no other crypto involved

The way they do it at weselldoges.com
- only verified paypal accounts;
- limits are small;
- premiums are high, to compensate for fraudsters but not prohibitatively high;
- if you pass ID verification, limits are raised;

I think it's both a profitable business for them as well as allows new users to sample dogecoin. Yes, you need to have a bank card attached to your paypal account to get verified, but that is not a lot of trouble for anyone seriously interested. Paypal has issued new rules a few months ago, so apparently this sort selling of crypto currencies that we selldoges.com is involved in is now allowed by Paypal and they don't ban accounts for that.

So, it would be wesellnxt.com, but with other means of payment...

For example, you could buy an NXT voucher at the local tobacco shop...

weselldoges.com only has a paypal payment option and it's an instant direct sale of doges by the site, but then there is localdogecoin.com, made similar to localbitcoins.com - those have various payment options, but they are peer-to-peer trading platforms, the website itself only acts as an escrow and negotiation platform.

In an ideal world yes, I wouldn't do that. But the site had it's fair share of people trying to get as many coins as possible. Tho even that doesn't stop them, nor do the captcha's and other protections.

I will release the latest source code sometime next week, then anyone can make a version with the parameters they want, with the protections they want. (And maybe someone can integrate it into nxt.org)

I figured that you would in time. I'm semi-retired and donate my time teach Computer Science to those who want to learn.

Indeed I have thought this out. I ran a contest to give away a bunch of slabs that I mostly upgraded to KitKat. Registration was online. For those of you who have never been to the Philippines, if there is a trick to get more than you are entitled to of anything, you'll face it here in spades. You can't blame them as their government pretty much takes everything.

So I developed a minimally invasive method of ensuring that the distribution was equitable. I since have used it for surveys and free VPN accounts to those in need.

I look forward to your release.

Sounds good. I think it's the typical coin IPO "distribution problem". IMHO this can't be fair for everyone.
