i used coinimal to calculate the rate in NXT because i will use neteller to pay the server later and that give:

Long term lurker, first time poster here, but wanted to ask a few questions:

1. The parcels are only open to current primary contributors to the NXT ecosystem? Or to anyone who wants to get one AND contribute in other ways?

I've been in btc and alts since late 2013, ridden several up and down, and have kept an eye on NXT for over a year, and gradually fallen more and more in love with NXT.

My *intentions* are to apply some 3D modeling skills to virtual environments and the like, though I can't say that they will be at the level of an integral or exceptionally valuable outlet or store, like nxter, nxtportal, nxtreporting, CORE, etc etc, though I would like to contribute writing/copy and the like.

If so, I get the need to keep the parcels close to the center space reserved for active service providers.

2. Is the intention to offer additional parcels a-la Second Life (at some point) to those who wish to purchase and contribute?

3. You mentioned "asset holders"; are you referring to a NXT asset? Is it private or open? I didn't see any Asset ID #.

The goals of this project and virtual world is the promotion of the NXT as currency and concept into the metaverse, this part of the project is like the homepage in a normal website... the virtual place where the new users will start first time and the central plazza is the arrival point of the hypergrid travelers...

first things that a visitor will get is the 3D version of the NXT marketplace (the buildings in the central plazza) and the active projects panel (red parcels), if the visitor goals are entretenments he have the blue zone, if he want to buy NXT he can go to the orange parcels projects (exchangers...) the global vision is very complex and ramified so that it serves to everyone regardless of the users goals
For this reason, only the NXT projects are allowed to pre-order now!

When the server and the virtual world will be on-line, i will add some space available to all... this server can host x2 the actual project size in a good conditions serving at 1000 avatars in same time (x3 the extreme limit)

an asset will be the next step if and only if the project have a success and we feel the need extend the infrastructure with more servers... the decision to push it towards a business model with asset and dividends should be taken in agreement with residents because the life into the virtual world will be in a democratic way

I think it has to do with not obstructing those large parts of the user base that would not like that.

So if you want a red light district, you'd just have to fire up your own server instance- which you can do if you want.

If you get the right twist to it, it can certainly become a very profitable business- but since this is the first ever NXT friendly VR instance, I think it is tactically advantageous to make it family-friendly

iirc, when linden labs wanted to clean up second life, they said either gambling or porn has to go. they went with gambling. its an area where people need a tool to exchange money for a service. i think it could be tactically advantageous to invite porn.
...however second life and opensim might have different audiences. someone with knowledge would have to chime in.

There're several ways to look at this, that come down to the end goal of the NXT opensim. If it's going to be a 3D social environment--i.e. targeted towards every day users--then it may serve as a means of drawing people in to keep adult-themed features, since that's what most new people to SL go to first, by most anecdotal accounts. However, there's plenty of porn available quickly and easily that doesn't require a separate viewer and software, so unless there's a compelling uniqueness to make the relative (relative to a 10 second web search or dedicated porn site) hassle of going to a 3d/VR area for something specific, then it may prove to have more downside appeal than up.

Conversely, if it's continuing the NXT approach of targeting and appealing to businesses/startups as a means of streamlining their business functions, then a no porn/no gambling policy would seem to be an unspoken requirement. That said, I'm not sure if a social 3d environment is something that any non-VR company will focus on or draw utility from, you know? So shaping policy to businesses that may or may not utilize the space isn't necessarily advisable either. Getting commercial customers to adopt NXT is a worthwhile challenge, and I think the NXT functionality is broad enough that a NXT-focused 3D opensim might only serve as a nice-to-have, forward-looking feature, rather than the main draw.

The features mentioned by OP that highlight NXT-exclusive markets like the music store, freemarket, the built-in marketplace, and others seems to be the best path, certainly at first. If, at a certain point (hopefully!) there's enough users that offering new and broader services becomes a regular and necessary theme, then I'd think a red light district would be a natural evolution to the offering. Cam services, vr strip clubs, 3d theatres, etc all seem ideally suited to this format (and crypto in general), and something that could underpin a foundational complement to the (supposedly) burgeoning VR market, where content to utilize the new hardware still seems to be somewhat modest.

i did not invent anything! this technology has existed for 15 years but it has been monopolized by its owner (Linden Lab) instead of making from it an universal service as imagined by its inventor Philip Rosedale...
