NxtPhone
« on: June 16, 2014, 04:32:11 pm »

Modern day smartphones of the Android variety can be rooted (with Superuser or su permission) and Linux can be installed as a second OS on the removable SD card. This platform can then have Nxt installed so that wesleyh web gui for Nxt can be accessed via mobile device.
I believe this will require a smartphone with 2 cores minimum. I root every phone I use. Who else in the Nxt community roots phones, can dual install Linux with Android, and is familiar enough with Nxt to get a prototype of a NxtPhone up and running.

Nxt has 40,000 wallets today. How does Nxt get to a million or billion wallets? Mobile devices. There is room in the market for RMT services on basic phones, as well as for apps like Nxtty that use APIs to work with the Nxt network. Installing Nxt on Linux on mobile has the additional benefit of driving more Nxt network nodes; every mobile wallet would be a node.

Nxt community comments please. Is this an idea worth pursuing as a community? Do you have skills that could help make this project idea a reality?

Hi

I succeeded only with Android TV stick (https://217.17.88.5). Tried to make similar with my Android smartphone, but no success. Maybe it is too old (Xperia Arc) or I had not a lot of time to play with it :)

This is an interesting thread, I am quite new to NXT so please forgive my lack of knowledge.

I have delved into may methods to get a node running. I can already see the future, but for now will explain my experience.

First, I tried an iPhone.... I don't think it worked, could not download - solution: needs an app

iPad similar, the third party wallet worked wonderfully... I thought that was it, but could not use the value of the system. I did download the client applications here. They are outdated but you get to view possible functions. Paid 250 nxt and 50 and another 50 only part functionality worth the cost as it has obviously been a project for a development party. They need incentive to fix.

A slight risk as 'third party' stuff happens...

Rasberry Pi... Cool little device, lots of work for the noob... Options, games, potential. I do not regret this purchase as it is a key to higher knowledge. Some issues only because of lack of skill. Love how clean the platform is Rasbian Linux very useful and less distracting. Still need hours in to hone skills and program commands. Looking to take courses locally.

Laptop this worked originally... Was setting up the port forwarding and got some malware xming or a ip scan software install... I keep getting Java errors. Uninstalled, reinstalled, multiple times.

Android phone... While taking a break from squirrels (game on Pi) tried to download on an old android phone... Quick download and it even had an open port.... It worked and I could forge. I don't think forging is the gold in this system but it helps the whole. (Need to find a pool?)

So now I can use other features and plan to.

I guess if this was the easy plug and belong device it should be known. 500 nodes added a day... With old model android phones.... World wide... Idk is it a big discovery? I mean if I saw one page stating get this device, join this pool and belong to something great. That adds value to all.

I could be mistaken still learning....
