Wallet Software Help
« on: November 26, 2015, 11:02:21 am »

Hi,

I'm a newb and having problems running the NXT wallet software. I'm trying to use it with OSX and get the following error messages:

Log4j: WARN No appenders could be found for logger (nxt.Nxt)
Log4j: WARN please initialize the log4j system properly
An error has occurred the server has quit.
Please restart the application.

I've tried reinstalling the software but are still getting the same error message. I have managed to get NXT wallet working on another mac computer with no problems, but not on my other mac.
I'd really appreciate any help anyone can give me.

Cheers.

Start by making sure you have the most up to date wallet:

These errors seem to be related to the logger module of NXT, if you can post your full nxt.log perhaps it will provide some hint.

Would that be under /Library/Logs? I don't seem to have a nxt.log file.

Did you ever manage to get this resolved?

Well, got me, I have no idea what to suggest, other than trying the next version when it's ready, and I am having trouble getting that working...

OK, I have a temporary solution while I work on getting the Nxt Wallet.app to work with 1.7.5. This will at least let you avoid the command line.

Download the latest client, and put it in your Applications folder:

https://bitbucket.org/JeanLucPicard/nxt/downloads/nxt-client-1.7.5.zip

Download this app called "Nxt Launcher":

http://cl.ly/3w2N1Z0Q3x2k

When you run it, it will launch Nxt and then open the wallet in a browser window for you.

ok thanks for that.
However, upon running the Nxt Launcher app I get an error message "Failed to open page", etc ... "Safari can't connect to the server 127.0.0.1".

I am a n00b to nxt.  Decided to try and help the community by running a node.  Looks like some how someone NXT-NYZG-JUUX-UJ9M-EESVS was able to get my password and take over a million next coins from me.  Is there anything I can do.  Yeah I know I did something stupid and all, but what can I do now?

Just saw your ticket come in on the helpdesk....we're taking a look at it now.

https://www.mynxt.info/transaction/15580312694574015591

More information would be useful....were you running your own node, and how did you log in to it ?

Ouch.  Did you use your own passphrase?  If so it may have been brute forced.

If you used a passphrase generated by the Nxt client you should assume your computer may be compromised, or try determine how your passphase was leaked.

You might want to contact the exchanges and let them know.

edit - What is the IP address in the message, is it yours?  "Thanks for your password, 50.125.178.202"

I think it was my IP at the time.  The ISP assigns a new one to me about every day or when I reboot the router.

But this is to help you in the future, starting how to encrypt your pass-phrase: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ph1rXza1GR8
