Nxt light client - new account, no funds

So, I'm really trying to understand this, but this client is super confusing.

I have created a new account, and sent myself 2 transactions (of 8 nxt each). these are showing up in the client, but not being added to the account. I have read a bunch of stuff online about having to announce your public key - but it seems impossible to do this without having nxt in the account to begin with.

I tried to use my public key in the 2nd transaction (that's why there's 2 transactions) but nothing seems to work. How do I get this working so those 16 nxt are showing in the account they were sent to?

It is strange, since when the transactions appear in the dashboard and they have been confirmed, your balance should be updated. And this has nothing to do about the public key issue. When the public key of an account has been broadcasted to the network (for instance, in the first outgoing transaction sent from the account) it becomes known, and that increases the security of the account from 64 to 256 bits. But regardless you can receive transactions in your account before the public key is known.

As you can see, block explorers show the 16 NXT balance in your account - https://www.mynxt.info/account/5152563676303522831

Have you restarted your client, so it will connect to another public Nxt node? Maybe the node you were connected to in that session had some issue when trying to retrieve the account balance.

That was it. Restarted it and the balance is updated. Many thanks for your help, it was confusing me greatly!

fwiw - this is a recurring problem, have made a couple more transfers, one out, one in, and also sent some ardr and it's the same story - the transactions update but the dashboard doesn't until i close the app and start it again (and log back in).
