Buying Software on the marketplace
« on: June 21, 2015, 10:00:30 am »

Hi, i found a domain and some software that i would like to purchase on the wonderfull nxtmarketplace, but when i wanted to continue with the purchase i have doubt in my mind, i could not trust the seller will send right software keys or the right domain details

i saw from the wiki/Marketplace
reading step 4 through 6, and conclude that after i 'decrypt' the message, the trade is considered final, but what if the message is not valid? or God forbid the seller is not sending the right information / false domain details / false software key?

when i click on the advanced tab on the nxt client, i see there is something about "approval"

does it mean that the "details for the domain" and "the software key" should be sent to some of nxt member?

Thank you NXT community!

I don't think there's any 'consumer protection' (yet) possible. Solutions are things like escrow and seller/buyer reputation systems, both not in effect yet if I'm correct. Maybe the seller has feedback on earlier sales on the blockchain? Maybe you can find him on this forum if his account has a recognizable alias and he's wagering his forum reputation if he doesn't deliver?

There is an escrow system already in place in Freemarket.

Are you sure? I believed this was still in testing, if I open Freemarket I don't see any info about it.

But the OP is interested in a product in the core marketplace and there isn't any protection there, perhaps he should ask the seller to list the item on Freemarket too

Another solution is find an agreement with the seller to use a reputable nxter as escrow, then the buyer pays with a phasing transaction that the escrower must approve

This is a nice usecase for phasing!

phasing allows to approve transactions. But the middle part would still not be able to see if the software is legit?

Seller would have to deliver in a encrypted message.
Ideally the marketplace should be updated to use with phasing..

Not yet implemented in FreeMarket, but it does exist:
