Post by: wicket on June 27, 2017, 02:04:35 pm

Hmm, looks good.  You have NXT running on a server somewhere?  Did you make sure to open the ports if you have a firewall?

Hello, I have same issue. The public key is not attaching, it is not user friendly (imo) I just wish to go in and start selling stuff...

To add value to the network. I have done transactions and it states it may not of happened. I paid for a full client (250 NXT) the reason why, is the one I downloaded (full client) kept getting pop up errors. I have already invested time and token. I hope a developer reads this. This is what I have noticed.

1) The online wallet works great but not attached to public key. (Why?)  Explain, is there a logical reason?

2) When I downloaded NXT server it worked then now I get error messages.

3) Paid for full client, yet can not do transaction to attach to public key. Error message 'transaction may not work' (something like that)

4) Adding a public key should be easy, every other account is. Take for example registering for this forum. I did it 5 min ago, and now have full function.

5) Selling a product in the market should also be easy. As should buying assets. I already tried 5-15 times and have been unsuccessful. It should be as easy as making a post.

I just wish to jump in and use, add value, make transactions. I  am stalled at the gate. Making a public notice as others would face similar issues.

This is taking profit away as I would have done many transactions told others (if it were working) I get there is a learning curve but I have downloaded many applications before only to USE them right away.

With new eyes on this and a new look at it all, no disrespect for all the hard work. I am sticking around, trying to add value.

How many hours invested is reasonable to place a item for sale on the network? I may choose Ebay. Get it?

I wish I took video of the entire process one must go through. Possibly I just got to wait for block 1400 or what not.... Then things will be fully functional(?)

The peer port necessary to communicate with the network is 7874. If your node has been downloading network data. the port must be already available.

Another reason why your could get a public key error when trying to forge is that the Nxt blockchain is not up to date in your node. If your node has not downloaded yet the block where your first outgoing transaction (or the first incoming transaction with public key announcement) was included, it won't be able to find your public key in the database and return an error.

To see the state of your node from the command line you can do

Code: [Select]
curl "http://127.0.0.1:7876/nxt?requestType=getState"
And then see if the most recent block value in your node, "lastBlockchainFeederHeight", agrees with the latest block height in a block explorer like https://nxtportal.org or https://mynxt.info

Hello Blue7,

before anything, welcome to NxtForum.

The MyNxt web wallet, although it has often been recommended as a hassle-free, fast way to get a Nxt account working, is a third party tool - it is not a product from Jelurida, the Nxt core developers. And it is in process of signing up a new resident developer that can take care of needed updates, including any problem in the Full Nxt Client plugin. The MyNxt wallet plugin fees are used to pay for service maintenance costs, but the core Nxt Client (https://nxt.org/download/) itself has always been free, and it is recommended to use any features, advanced or not. The only hassle the Nxt Client may currently bring is downloading the blockchain, or for whoever prefers to avoid that and work in Lite mode (similar to how the MyNxt wallet works from the user point of view, without needing to wait for the blockchain to download anywhere) you need to tweak a configuration setting. But probably new Nxt Client releases will include a simple way to install it in Lite mode by default.

This said, announcing the public key for an account has been for a long time an optional step. For as long as the account has not sent any transaction, it helps to increase the security for new accounts with no activity. But it is not needed, unless for instance you want to start forging without ever having sent an outgoing transaction. Is this your problem, you tried to start forging? It actually is not possible to forge using the MyNxt wallet, even with the full client plugin. To forge you need to be running your own Nxt client.

That "Forging allowed" field in the Nxtportal explorer seems to correspond to the "deadline" forging parameter, which is a time estimation in seconds for the time the account will need to forge a new block. This is recalculated every block, since in every new block the network parameters related to forging (like the number of participating accounts) keeps changing, and so projection estimates change. Nxtportal just adds to the estimate value a realtime counter, and while that is a nice looking feature, it is not really meaningful because often the estimate deadline will move within a range that exceeds by much the duration of a block.

So in short, it is just an estimate updated every block according to the network state.

Forging allowed is time in seconds till you can forge a block. :)
Every time someone forges a block this time changes according to NXT POS algorithm. 8)
This time is dependant on current network difficulty and your stake. ::)

Thanks for that answer. I couldn't get the full client to run for long. It DID work, now I get errors. Uninstalled and reinstalled, tried many things. The web wallet is functional and works on an iPad.

The client I uploaded from the third party source (full client app) from web wallet. Looks great but has had an out of version notice pop up. I paid for a non functional look into possible features, I quite simply wish to use.

I can not do anything.... I don't have a functioning full free client, the third party lite wallet is beautiful and works on multiple devices BUT I can not do anything and have now been informed it is kinda not a real wallet(?) BUT it does have my public key attached and have entered my passphrase through this gateway.

Should I just stop now. Forget about NXT and go back to something else. I was ready to run and fill up the marketplace, adding value, transactions, entertainment etc. BUT I can't, and possibly shouldn't.

Hashing through all of this. Is there something I can do or is it up to developing crew? Do I need a new computer or to download Linux? The client (full) has some Java error pop up even in new install.

Thanks for the welcome

You can buy a Raspberry3 and host your own client. Thats the cheapest way to host your own client 24/7

Wow. Ok, is this complex? Is this the best option at this point? Thank you for solutions

It is not the best option but here it works fine.
or you can hire a vps. Thats the best option but not the cheapest  ;D

I may do both...is it possible to scale foraged NXT or is it I.P. One per house rules? Meaning, can I open account for Rasberry node  one for Vps (whatever that is)

Thanks for link. Logged in, a pop up from iPad regarding Safari and login... Something re two logins... The nxt account # and pass...idk.

Got in then moved around a bit.

Still not at block 1400 notice up... Could see tokens on this, where they can not be seen from third party (out of date) client app.... Nice.

Getting lost a bit. I want a full client on, turn on forage and buy and sell. Right?  Will try again with cleared mind.

New link did not recognize pass phrase for market.  ???

Sounds like it matters to EVERYONE!!!! No forging no market, it's about the flow.

5 devices tried.... Is it the Java? My operating systems and/or browser? This is 99% of devices and operating systems.

Do we need the nxtpi machine? A Vps
 Rasberry pi.

What's your knowledge about Linux?

I don't know Linux... I know I should, time is an issue for me. What is best Vps? I can add value in many other ways..... I am sure I could shock all, in time. First, I need in front door and to not get discouraged. It is a real thing as time is the asset with most valuable return it is limited.

Tell me, how you are doing this full client.

NXT is different, I wished to use the functionality as it is beautiful. A complete package, you don't need anything else.

Ummm.... Says I am forging from my iPad ... I hope so I want a big truck, I will even blast NXT all over it. Fuck the Lamborghini.... No a fan of unicorns either. Just a big truck and a full package system decentralized.

Can this be for real? Forging works on my iPad.

Ok now it stopped... Still haven't entered public key to blockchain... This is third party web wallet with app... Man if they can make that work. NXT is the golden child.  One day good things will be easy.

Then the value? Wow. It is better.

Why can't I forge on an iPad... I saw it work. A phone, an old laptop.... Can't wait, hope it happens soon.

There is plenty of value in the system. I believe people are not forging for a reason. Guess the reason, fix the platform. Lots of crap, for sale also. Wow

Let's hear reasons people are not forging from the hardened nxt'ers....

My guess... Well opinion doesn't matter, especially from a newbie.
