Announcing public key
December 26, 2017, 10:23:04 pm

Hey guys !

I've downloaded the nxt client to move my ARDR out of Bittrex. I've started with a small quantity just in case I screw up. Everything went well though I've this message "Warning: your account public key ### has not been published to the blockchain. This means it is not as protected as other accounts. You must make an outgoing transaction to fix this issue. (Set account info, send a message, buy an alias, send NXT, ...)".

According to the wiki, my public key can be announced if another account makes a transaction to "me". Isn't it what I did by sending ARDR from Bittrex to the nxt wallet? Or since ARDR is an asset on the nxt chain, it does not count as a transaction? Do I really need to buy NXT to secure my account? Is it unsafe to leave my ARDR stored this way? Thanks!

When withdrawing from Bittrex (or when you withdraw from any other exchange, AFAIK), it doesn't have a specific field to enter the "public key" of the destination account when withdrawing from there, so the public key of the destination account isn't announced to the blockchain  :-\

However, an easy way to announce your public key (once you've funded your account with ARDR) is to log in to your Ardor account using the Ardor wallet and then send 1 ARDR to yourself (i.e. to that same ARDR-...-...-...-...-... account you've opened in your Ardor wallet)
