I have forgotten my MyNXT master password, last used it over a year ago and what i thought it was doesn't work now. I know the servers don't hold the password, but if they hold the hash is it possible to get access to the hash? and what hashing algo is it? I know the likely derivations of my master password so if I had this information I think I could brute force it locally with a script.

Cheers

If the owner of MyNxt could restore or reset your master password, then he could do so anytime he wants, and he could steal your funds. And anyone who hacks mynxt.info could do the same.
That's why he decided it is technically impossible to recover your master password, even for him. That's why you had to write down your password.

I contacted AIO after his message, and as soon as MyNxt has again some steady developer support we'll check if what he's suggesting (trying to brute force your own password against a stored hash, provided you have some reasonable hints about what your master password is) is even possible. In principle, due to how MyNxt security is implemented, I don't think it is possible since the information stored in the database is not a simple one-step hash of the master password.

As Peter2516 said, and as the MyNxt wallet registration process says clearly, and as stated many times in support and in this forum, there is nothing that can be done in MyNxt to change or reset a master password. The wallet information is encrypted using the master password, so the master password is required to decrypt it. Hence in order to change any master password users need to provide their current master password, MyNxt cannot decrypt the users wallet information without it, and if a master password was changed just like that, the wallet contents would not be accessible.

Imagine that you lose an Nxt passphrase, or a Bitcoin or Ethereum private key. Unless you have a reasonable chance to figure it out or recover it, nothing can be done about it. Same case with MyNxt master password.

Hi VanBreuk,

Thanks your your reply, I know I should have been more careful, but any help or ideas to this end would be great. As I say if I it is possible to locally brute force my master password in some way that would be ideal. I currently have a decent amount of NXT and ARDOR that will be forever dormant if I can't solve this.

Cheers

August 13, 2017, 04:09:38 pm

Hi, Can anyone help please!
Purchased coins on BITTREX and transferred them over to my wallet this morning but nothing is showing.
My address is NXT-KWST-JFAA-K9CB-BAZDG transaction id -12741683897012019562
Is there anything I need to do to my wallet?
I have a green light for connection and a red one for not foraging.

Help.

https://www.mynxt.info/account/10894181674322031385 shows that the transaction has arrived to your account. So probably your Nxt client hasn't finished downloading the blockchain yet. When it catches up you will have all the recent transactions in your database so your client will know about them and display them.

Locking this for off topic.
