This version errors out on me at startup. Was on 1.3.5. I read the previous 1.4 docs and didn't see anything you needed to do special.

Here is the error from the log:

There must be some other errors preceding this last one, can you post that part of the log too?

I notice that when a new version is posted there is all sorts of information that it is supposed to be used to verify the authenticity of the of new release.

Does anyone KNOW how to actually use the data to verify that someone did no steal Jean Luc NxT Forum Account and post a hacked program like what happened to OPALCoin.

Not that I don't trust it, but I would like to know HOW to verify - might be kind of a fun exercise..

This is probably unrelated, but VirusTotal brings this for nxt-client-1.4.5.zip

Detection ratio:   1 / 45

Just posting this since I see you're reporting problems. I know about the false positives and all so this is probably nothing...

Great! That was a quick release after the beta period. Congratulations to all involved.

Actually, I just realized my first contribution to import/export contacts made it to the release, from writing the first line of code to production in 8 days! I'm shocked, I wish my day-job company had this speed for delivering new features and improvements.

Awesome work guys!

Enable Monetary System at block 330000. This is a hard fork, therefore everybody
should upgrade to 1.4.5 or later before that.

Just a recommendation...  When releasing things like this, this would be better:

1.4.5 gets released, is stable, has the code commented out that enables the monetary system

Once people are running on it for 2 or 3 weeks without issue

1.4.6 gets released again, with the code uncommented and works that enables the monetary system and hardfork.

Right now we have everyone downloading 1.4.5 and people on 1.3.5 are not able to migrate. Because of the hardfork announcement people are rushing to install this not yet proven client.

Hardfork releases should be treated more delicately and only be done from a stable version that has already been in the wild.

Thanks to Jean Luc for all his hard work. I'm just concerned about hard fork releases to be extra-extra-extra stable first.

added note:

Elsewhere in this thread Jean Luc mentions how to limit the memory so this type of crash doesn't happen.

The few reports of crashes on upgrade from 1.3.5 have been caused by insufficient memory. The run.sh and run.bat scripts do not specify -Xmx parameter, need to edit them and add -Xmx1024M or more. This is not a new change, but apparently recent releases have had low enough memory requirements that even running with the default heap was not a problem. It is only the upgrade from 1.3 to 1.4 that requires extra memory, after that or when downloading from scratch, should still be able to run with 512MB heap only.

For everyone else, going from 1.3.5 to 1.4.5 can take about an hour for it to modify all the block database tables, add new columns, alter tables, etc, so be patient while it does it's thing.

To verify SHA256 in release post:

To verify GPG software fingerprint:
https://wiki.nxtcrypto.org/wiki/How-To:VerifyGPG

Also you can verify the signed post from Jean-Luc matches his GPG fingerprint.
