Re: NRS v1.11.4

I've just updated my TestNet node, and I'm getting scores of messages about "advertised chain with better difficulty, but the last common block is at height 1068915". The common block varies between 1068915 and 1111847 depending on the peer. Have I been running on a fork for the last month? Is this going to sort itself, or is my database hosed?

(My MainNet node seems OK.)

Try to popoff blocks up to height 1,000,000 and let it download the testnet. Should take about an hour to sync.

Thank you for the new release! Been updating nodes :)
Ran into a problem on one though:
Code: [Select]
Caused by: org.h2.jdbc.JdbcSQLException: Timeout trying to lock table ; SQL statement:
INSERT INTO block (id, version, timestamp, previous_block_id, total_amount, total_fee, payload_length, previous_block_hash, cumulative_difficulty, base_target, height, generation_signature, block_signature, payload_hash, generator_id)  VALUES (?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?)         at org.h2.command.Command.executeUpdate(Command.java:258)
        ... 18 more

Get this over and over again, although the executed statement sometimes varies. This renders the client unable to download the blockchain any further.
I've already deleted the nxt_db and got a fresh one from peerexplorer.com, no success. Stil 880k+ blocks behind on the chain.

Are there any fixes for this particular problem? And is there a way to get a more recent copy of the nxt_db? Because I think that might resolve my problem.

http://www.peerexplorer.com/ provides a copy of the current Nxt blockchain, check the Download link at the bottom of the page.

For the problem...no real idea, what are the hardware specs for the node ?

Yes. But: the Windows .exe version doesn't, so you'll have to use the Linux/Win/whatever .zip version.

Hm I downloaded that one. Does the blockchain need to be checked entirely before the client can use it?

Node specs are 2.4GHz core, 1.2GB RAM. I know these aren't too great, but should be enough for nxt right?

Edit: oh, and it is using Windows Server

Hmmmm.....my feeling is that 1.2 GB and Windows Server is not going to give you enough free RAM, making operations on the database tricky.
Can you throw more RAM into it ?

I can sure try! Windows Server itself should be taking about 600-700MB from the specs. So let's say I've got +/- 500MB free for NXT, as I'm not using it for anything else. When NXT runs continously, it runs on way less than 500MB RAM. But it could be that during the verification of the db it won't be enough.

I'll try adding more RAM and report back here :)

I really dropped the ball on this one. It would appear that the error was between the chair and the screen all along:P. As most of my nodes are linux, I forgot to copy the blockchain db to %APPDATA% folder, so NXT tried to download it all over again. This caused the huge spike in RAM (and CPU & Network). It's running like a charm now.

Thank you for the quick replies :)

So can you send real Ardor to your testnet account? I converted a small amount of ETH to Ardor yesterday and it looks like I messed up as I still haven't received the funds. What wallet would be best for a small time user?
