I am not going to go into the argument, but just present some very simple truths:

1. Nxt has been thoroughly overlooked because it is not recognisable.
2. We've seen numerous calls for "better marketing" and "doing something".
3. Other projects with similar credentials DO make an effort to unify their style and they WIN because of it.
4. Travin (marenkar) and Mitchell (futuraprocessa) are professionals in their field (marketing and business identity).
5. We do not want a situation where everyone just picks and chooses "because it's nice". Sorry, but an experts opinion has more weight than someone who isn't. You wouldn't pay a lot for a cupboard made by a random person but you do for one by a professional carpenter for the same reason. Like it or not: marketing is a skill and occupation. Most people are not good at it.

We've asked marenkar to take the things said into account and come up with a plan that represents the consensus.

I implore everyone to follow the people with experience for once and work as a unity instead as a fragmented group!
You were happy with the price rise? That was because the plan was presented in a coordinated matter! If it was not, it would have dropped flat on its face.

This works just the same: if our sites are crappily jumbled all over the place we'll be seen as the amateurish project we then are.

Let's look at the larger picture here and unite. Give and take for the greater goal: make Nxt and Ardor kick ass and let the crypto scene see what good it can do.

Honestly, personally no idea which logo is best, so let the professionals decide.

I agree on that! We should stand together as community and respect all the hard work that is done and accept the choices the community and foundation has made. It's all for the best.  :)

so let the professionals decide.

Appeal to authority is absurd in the context of something as subjective as graphic design.

Are you seriously suggesting that graphics design is just "drawing stuff"?

There are numerous things to be taken into account and someone with experience definitely has a better grasp of the topic than someone who doesn't have that experience.

Not at all, I'm suggesting that one professional designer can think the work of another professional designer is crap, so whether you chose to make a living of it is pointless in the argument.  If you are a shitty doctor, I don't care if you went to school for 10 years to become one.

This is the first impression I got from the so-called "professional" work:
http://i64.tinypic.com/34t78gm.jpg

Then there's a mess of a forum poll to quickly choose a favorite from a bunch of hacked together conceptual designs, followed by proclamation that "we" have a new logo.  When others start to question the choice of a design they are told to defer to "professionals", which is what evoked my response.  IMHO the "winner" red and yellow chopped A is boring and ugly.  At least the revisions are aligned properly.  My wife is a veteran graphic designer who has worked for major ad agencies in New York, Atlanta and Singapore, and her professional opinion is that it looks like something from 1980.

If you want a decentralized community to rally behind a logo design, a call for submissions would be a much better start than "here's a few logo ideas, hurry up and pick one to be official".

Fair enough, and point taken.

However, at this point we are also on a time table. We've been organising a lot of stuff, yes centrally, because frankly, you don't get speed by committee.
We dropped the ball on not having this organised as it should be, I freely admit that, and it is a fair argument.

At the moment, it's clear there is no overwhelming support for the design, and that's what it is. The core devs have also spoken against it, at that makes it kind of unusable anyway.

At the moment, also due to time constraints in getting up the timelines both technical and marketing-wise aligned makes it hard not to move. The snapshot starts on the 14th and infrastructure must be up, even rudimentary, and that also means moving on an identity. That is what for me definitely has priority.

It's shitty this has played out the way it went. I'd have preferred it to go much smoother. But as said: there is more going on than just a logo, which is on quite a tight schedule. That probably has made this one rushed in a way it shouldn't have and for that, I apologise. I'll post more about it later.

Ethereum changed their logo and web design also a few times, so why not do the same for Ardor. We have plenty of time to think and decide before the launch of Ardor platform.

I agree with Coretechs, we should start a second voting round between the most 3-4 voted designs, like with NXT original design election, where the most voted designs were chosen for the final voting round. From my opinion, an only 1 round - 24 hours election cant be acceptable from my opinion. Sorry.

Thanks.

I'd like to know the Foundation's position regarding the brand identity, see this separate thread for discussion - https://nxtforum.org/news-and-announcements/ardor-vs-nxt-legacy-branding/

Since the Ardor logo was already decided (and everyone seems quite happy with it) this thread can be now locked.
