How to setup Minting for Windows
« on: January 11, 2015, 03:28:29 pm »

Posting this as the instructions that are referenced can be damn confusing for the less tech savvy:

1.  Go to your Nxt conf folder
2.  Copy the nxt-default.properties file and rename it to nxt.properties
3.  Remove ALL the text in the nxt.properties file
4.  Copy ONLY the lines below to the nxt.properties file and set them up for your individual situation (i.e. enter your own passphrase and change the currency)

nxt.mint.serverAddress=localhost
nxt.mint.currencyCode=[put coin code here, i.e. ELEMS, EGOLD, etc.]
nxt.mint.secretPhrase=your account passphrase
nxt.mint.unitsPerMint=1
nxt.mint.threadPoolSize=1
nxt.mint.initialNonce=0
nxt.mint.isSubmitted=true

THE ABOVE IS ALL YOU NEED IN THE FILE

Go to your root Nxt directory and look in there.  See the mint.bat file?  THAT is what you need to run as it executes the necessary JAVA command to run the above statements.

You should be minting now.

EDIT:  Replaced "Miner" with "Minting" in title.

EDIT:  Updated for Security concerns:  For all MS currencies while minting the passphrase of the minting account is sent to the host. It is strongly advised to mint from an account that has a low balance of nxt.

EDIT:  Modify mint.bat if Java crashes (this tells the system where Java is installed - thanks SwissAlps):

Code: [Select]
@ECHO OFF
PAUSE
"%PROGRAMFILES(X86)%\Java\jre7\bin\java.exe" -cp classes;lib\*;conf nxt.mint.MintWorker
PAUSE

The Mint.bat file is not launching for me why?

6. Go back in the "nxt" folder and run "mint.bat"
7. A new console window open, if everything is correct after the initialization you will see "Mint worker started

I have no console window open

First i copied nxt.defaut.properties and paste
Rename the new file default.properties
Open it with Notepad++ delete the text et add this

nxt.mint.serverAddress=localhost
nxt.mint.currencyCode=ELEMS
nxt.mint.secretPhrase=my nxt passphrase
nxt.mint.unitsPerMint=1
nxt.mint.threadPoolSize=1
nxt.mint.initialNonce=0
nxt.mint.isSubmitted=true

Save and launch the Mint.bat nothing happen

File should be named nxt.properties not default.properties.  Try that.

Yes it's ok now thank you

A question
Can i forging nxt and mining elems at the same time?
Or i have more chance to mine block if i'm not forging? Or it doesn't matter?

You are still forging when you are minting...that doesn't stop.  The minting part is determined (I believe) by your processor and how much you hash and is a separate process from forging.  A dev could probably explain better than I could.

Please make this as a sticky.

Please add the words in the bracket.
nxt.mint.currencyCode=ELEMS (Name of the coin that you want to mint e.g ELEMS)

Love to, but for the life of me I don't see an option to make this sticky.  Could a Mod please do this?

It happened to me too, because it could not find the java.exe

See how it is done in the run.bat

Here is how I do it now :
Code: [Select]
@ECHO OFF
PAUSE
"%PROGRAMFILES(X86)%\Java\jre7\bin\java.exe" -cp classes;lib\*;conf nxt.mint.MintWorker
PAUSE

How do you mean? Can I login with my forging account and use the passphrase of a different (minting) account?

It means the passphrase used in the nxt.properties file must be the same as the account you are minting with.  Since the passphrase is stored in a plain text file...it is vulnerable.  Therefore you should setup a new account, send a small amount of Nxt to it, and use that account to mint.

In other words...don't use your main account to mint, especially if it has a large amount of Nxt.

I get this error when I launch mint.bat.   What am I doing wrong?

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ClassCastException: java.lang.String cannot be cast to java.lang.Long
        at nxt.mint.MintWorker.mint(MintWorker.java:80)
        at nxt.mint.MintWorker.main(MintWorker.java:46)

This is what my properties file looks like:
nxt.mint.serverAddress=localhost
nxt.mint.currencyCode=EGOLD
nxt.mint.secretPhrase=my passphrase
nxt.mint.unitsPerMint=1
nxt.mint.threadPoolSize=1
nxt.mint.initialNonce=0
nxt.mint.isSubmitted=true

EDIT:  Also just realized that the console says I am running Nxt server version 1.4.5, but when I am in my wallet it says I am on version 1.4.8.   Is this the issue and if so how do I get the minting program to use the correct version?
