Hi all,
Sorry for not responding sooner. Skype is an unreliable way to reach me as I do not keep the client running on my Mac.
I've reviewed this proposal and I have three concerns. One is related to the proposal itself, and two are not.
1) After the community gives each person 100Nxt to set up a free game server, how do we retain those people and get them to leverage that introduction for other purposes? Are they "Nxt converts" or they freebieservers resources who happen to have a few coins tossed their way? MIT recently distributed $100 of Bitcoin to thousands of their first-year students, and the results are NOT good: those who accessed the wallets generally cashed them out right away for beer and popcorn. I would. I fail to see how this fund does much more than give 300,000Nxt to a bunch of people who will set up a Nxt wallet and then never use it again. It helps increase freebieservers' ad revenue, but is that the incentive this community is after? Do we feel that "a large number of new, tiny wallets" is something that will win widespread Nxt adoption? Has it been working for NxTTY?
1a) What happened to the freebieservers asset on the AE? Why not get the community to commit to that asset and then use it to fund this? What is being done with the funds raised by selling that asset thus far?
2) I need to do some accounting, but I think this request would wipe out the remaining MC Fund, based on existing commitments. Perhaps that's for the best.
3) The governance of the MC Fund has been haphazard-to-nonexistent for months. IMHO it's always been highly dysfunctional but since Damelon resigned none of the remaining committee members have been rigorous about the committee's own process (yes, I bear responsibility for that). It's nice that I have the ability to authorize disbursement of funds, but I don't think "lack of rigor" or "just spend it all and be done with it" is appropriate justification for authorizing the commitment of 300,000Nxt. I regularly fall behind on these forums because of the volume of traffic, but what happened to Damelon's alternate marketing committee proposal? Frankly, I'd rather commit to supporting that effort, sign over the remaining MC Fund to that initiative, and let THAT operation decide whether or not to fund this project.
Speaking personally, and for ALL of the reasons stated above (with respectful apologies, freebieservers, for 2 of 3 of them not being in your control), I cannot support this proposal in its current form.
