[MC] Speakers List - Looking for Speakers!
« on: March 27, 2014, 12:09:35 pm »

Hi people,

As we are all probably aware, we are in need for people who are willing to step up to the plate and willing to speak on topics or sit on panels for Nxt at conferences.

This means we are looking for people with different skills, but I think it is not needed that you are perfect at all of these at the start.  :)

We need people who are willing and able to talk on single topics, Nxt in general and who can sit on panels.
These need not necessarily be the same people! Some people can do very well on prepared topics, but don't like to sit on panels where questions can be sprung on you.

So, please let it be known that you áre available in this thread.

We will not let you go without any backup. We should aim to help any speaker to the best of our abilities and I'd like to set up a structure for that, so you can get the info and knowledge and skills you need.

Let's work on this together! :)

Speakers:

Tai Zen - US
rickyjames - US
NxtMinnow - US
l8orre - EU
forkedchain - US
IveBeenBit - NE USA
ola - US
joefox - CA
Damelon - EU
PoofKnuckle - US

People who have spoken:

Tai Zen
rickyjames
NxtMinnow

I would like to ask them if they are available for repeats :)

I'd also like to ask them what they can tell of their previous experience in speaking for Nxt and where the support for speakers could be better.

As far as I understand I am half booked for Amsterdam (May 15-17) already, with my CV and Photo in conference exhibit format already with EvilDave.

What's the status on that? I would be doing a talk on the Asset Exchange, and I'd need some backup for that also.

Feel free to add them to this topic for now.
Once we have some, I'll put them in a seperate thread for easy bookmarking :)

Can speakers also list what their specialities are, please?
You may know, but we may not!

I would be willing to do it. I don't have any specialties and I'm not all that technical, but you don't need to be technical.

Example

Question: What do you mean that Nxt allows instant transactions? How does it accomplish that?

Answer: Well, Adam, the Nxt transparent forging system allows you to predict the next several authors of the coming blocks. So if you send money, your client is smart enough to send that transaction directly to the people responsible for including it in a block, and you can instantly be assured that it will be confirmed.

That answer is really as technical as you need to get. Nobody is asing you to recite lines of code that give Nxt its functionality.

Also, if we're going to have a Nxt speaker corps, what do we think of the idea of getting on Skype or Google hangout from time to time to practice and give feedback / critique to each other?

Edit: spelling.

Theoretically, you are booked in for your AE talk, as we discussed, but I'm getting no feedback from the BTC Conf team.
I've mailed them yesterday with a request for some more contact on this, but........still nada.
I'll give them a call tomorrow (Friday 28/03) if theres still nothing in my inbox Friday AM.

Hi Nxt community,

I have much more to cover than I can say in one post. I will begin by saying it was an honor to speak representing the Nxt blockchain technology and I would speak again now that the first set of steps has been made. I explained Proof of Stake, Distribution, Nxt Asset Exchange, Gateways, Automated Transactions (Smart Contracts), and more to over 100 different people at Coinsumm.it. This entire industry including Bitcoin is very young. Many of the applications that can be built on the blockchain technology have not even been imagined.

Specifically regarding Nxt speakers and conferences, I think it is a great idea to use Skype and/or Google Hangouts to prepare speakers for events. Also, 1 person cannot effectively engage with 500+ people on a person to person and project to project basis. Nxt would benefit in marketing effectiveness at Conferences by having at least 2 Nxt representatives to network with the attendees.

Regarding Nxt Branding at Conferences. I mentioned this idea in the Marketing thread; NXT logo repeating on lanyards to replace the conference issued lanyards. We have to encourage adoption and use directly. I propose this marketing technique be called "Proof of Lanyard Burn". Each representative offers each attendee a NXT paper wallet ($10) in exchange for wearing the Nxt lanyard instead of the Sponsor Lanyard. Or better yet, Nxt just pays at the Sponsor levels on Bitcoin events and specifically produces these lanyards for all the event attendees. OK, moving on.

The vast power consumption required to secure the BTC blockchain is a major concern to many people at Coinsumm.it. This is a major advantage of Nxt. All speakers at Conferences need to be able to explain all the key advantages of Nxt quickly. Low power consumption, fast one minute block generation times, extensible platform, Decentralized Asset Exchange, Gateways, Nxt adoption rates by node and wallet numbers, development progress at young age of currency, developer expertise, and distribution all need to be emphasized as key Nxt advantages.

Many are only focused on the blockchain technology as money. The IRS did just issue guidance on Tuesday classifying crypto as property taxable at Short and Long Term Capital Gains for US citizens. This will employ thousands of accountants and creates a demand for a NXT wallet that tracks purchases (Basis) and Sales (Revenue) and generates Profit/Loss Income tax reports for US citizen users of NXT. Make using NXT EASY for the end user. The USA just threw a wrench at crypto with the Tuesday tax guidance announcement. 43% Short term and 28% Long Term Capital Gains now apply to crypto transactions (USA citizens). The upside is NXT is young and the "network participants" do not have to dig up basis information from 3 years ago to amend tax returns with cryptos as property. BTC miners have a substantial additional regulatory compliance burden now.

Several people want to build Proof of Stake coins on their own parallel blockchains to Nxt. Two exchanges want to integrate NXT into their operations. A couple developers want to build Nxt blockchain based scaling computing instances activated by Automated Transactions.

Many people asked if I was the creator of NXT. Many people wanted to know more about the Decentralized Asset Exchange. Some developers need transaction fees at .01 NXT rather than 1 NXT to facilitate certain applications. Others asked where the offices or headquarters of Nxt is located. Still others asked how many developers are working on Nxt. Others asked how to invest in NXT. I was able to field most questions with some very notable exceptions; remember it is ok to say, "That is above my technical expertise, but I can refer someone from the Nxt community that does have that expertise."

Please comment and ask questions.

Sincerely, Brian Snyder

P.S. Thanks for the anonymous (for now) NXT donations for my time spent promoting Nxt at Coinsumm.it.

The list so far:

Tai Zen - US
rickyjames - US
NxtMinnow - US
l8orre - EU
forkedchain - US
IveBeenBit - ?
ola - ?
joefox - CA

Encouraging!
Feel free to add to the list.

I am also willing in a "layman" capacity. As IveBeenBit says, it's definitely not all about tech. Making a connection to the audience is important, too.
It all depends on why you would be there.

I am in agreement with NxtMinnow that going alone isn't a good idea. Take at least a wingman. Conferences are hard work and it's best to spread the effort. Also, knowing you have backup helps a lot in itself.
