EvilDaves Big Fat Forging Nodes........
« on: June 24, 2014, 12:51:02 am »

Girls and guys:

I've spent some time over the last week setting up two Big Fat Forging nodes (or hubs, if you prefer.)

Now, I'm looking for some funds to be leased to the nodes. According to the CfB/mthcl plan, we need a lot of public BFF nodes, each with an optimal forging power of 5 million NXT per node/hub, before it will be possible to implement transparent forging. This is therefore very important for the future of NXT.
These are not forging pools. To be absolutely clear: there will be no payouts on the forging funds, but all of the forging income will go to either the Marketing Fund or to the NXTcarbon Fund, and the forging NXT will help to secure the NXTwork.

http://www.peerexplorer.com/
The two public BFF nodes are:

213.46.57.77
UPC, Netherlands. Forging account is NXT-TMVC-69YC-SJB4-8YCH7
This node is hallmarked, curently has 75,000 NXT forging on it, round about #9 on PeerExplorer.
All forging income from this hub will go to the Marketing Fund.
https://nxtforum.org/marketing-committee/13-on-the-mc-fund-already-spent/

54.187.153.45
AWS, Oregon, USA. Forging account is NXT-V8D6-R4DW-SMMT-4FTRH
Non hallmarked, i may add one in the future, 65,000 NXT, currently showing around #135 on PeerExplorer.
https://nxtforum.org/assets-board/%28ann%29-nxtcarbon-making-nxt-truly-environmentally-friendly!/
All forging income from this hub goes to the NXTCarbon fund.

So, if you have some spare forging power lying around, please lease it out to one of the above accounts. Doing so will help secure the NXTwork and provide a small income for two very useful causes.

That's really cool, thanks for doing that!

Sometimes I log in to this forum and see some troll crapping all over the place, and then I see something like this and my mood brightens. This is why I invest my time and effort here, there are so many good people.

Are these ~70K NXTs your personal amounts?

If so, I would strongly recommend you to transfer them back to non-forging accounts and lease the effective balance from there to the hubs.

I've got 75,000 running directly as the forging account for Marketing (which is now up to 208,000 effective balance) and thats running on my own personal server in my front room, the NXT_Carbon is running on a VPS with all the associated security risk, so I'm using a low balance forging account, just in case Amazon hack me....

Thanks to all the leasers, btw, and don't feel shy about sending your forging power in my direction.

Maybe, I was not clear about that. It was no request of how secure your equipment setup is. I wanted to point out that Nxt has Account Control for exactly that and we all should use it to prevent coin loss.

So still, I recommend that you use Leased Forging to guarantee the safety of your coins. It is simply not necessary to put them on risk. Even when Amazon or Bad Bob hacks your VPS and your front room, they cannot steal your NXTs when using Account Control here. :)

EDIT: of course, you are free to do what you wish with your NXTs. This is just an advice to your and everybody else. :)

Yep, you are not wrong. I'm going to be having a re-organisation of everything soon, might migrate to Ubuntu.....tricky  :P
Also be sorting out the forging structure itself, as per Chucks suggestion.

On to the BFF nodes: thanks to the guys who leased their NXT to the Marketing BFF, had 6 leases of which 4 are still running, for a total weight of around 600,000 NXT on average. Would like to have more, remember its for the good of the NXTwork and the Marketing funds.

Total NXT forged is 64 so far, not very impressive, but we also pulled in 42 NSC, so Marketing will be getting about 200-230 NXT.

The NXTwork appreciates it as well: the Marketing hub is at #3 on www.peerexplorer.com:
 3   LIBERTY GLOBAL ...   213.46.57.77    213.46.57.77   1.1.5   EvilPC   107365   2815151   616984   Netherlands

Which brings me to my last point: WE NEED MORE/BETTER NODES!
I want to see my rig pushed out of the way by a lot of better Nodes......start setting them up, get hallmarking, open yr APIs.........

And lastly....no-one leased to the NXT_Carbon node, except me. Shame on you all.

Nxt Carbon Node? Never heard of it  ;D

Is there a full list of leasing nodes? I only know 3, now

Dave, if your forging pools get above the 5+ qualifier for lessors, we can get you guys some more NSC. :)  Just let me know what accounts to look at when you hit 5+ and I'll get you added to our list. UPDATE:  nm, checked on peerexplorer.  Looks like now that I've leased my personal and asset accounts balances over to NXT-TMVC-69YC-SJB4-8YCH7, you'll be up to six lessors and qualified! ;)

I would suggest not dumping all of your NSC into the market - it'll drive the value of NSC down, and hurt the initiative in the long run.  Maybe sell off a fraction and hold some?

Let's convince the InfFund committee to create some buy orders for NSC asset :)

Or you could just shout at me....I'm hodling my/Marketings NSC, btw. When I make a payout to marketing I'll probably just pay them out in NXT.....

I'm not convinced that simply propping up NSC with buy orders is such a good idea.......maybe small dividend payouts would work better, possibly based on some network performance metric.
Like maybe more nodes=higher NSC payout.
Thinking about it.

And yeah, I need to publicise the NXT_Carbon more....

Good to hear on the hodling! lol  I think the propping can occur through other methods, the last ditch resort would be through the Infrastructure committee. :)  We want to keep NSC at least at 1NXT or above to incentivize running new nodes AND maintaining existing nodes.  At least if operators see the price dropping, and it hits 1 NXT and stays, they can think, "It will rebound some day."  If it drops through the floor, there's incentive to panic sell and move their nodes elsewhere(like Tor).

More nodes = more payout, we need to be careful with.  I think we want to avoid a single node operator holding a significant percentage of the total node count, or even several node operators holding significant percentages.  Increasing the payout by how many nodes you own would encourage this.  I'm totally up for other ideas though. :)  Right now, the payout is based on how many nodes one runs times a certain amount of NSC which depends on how much NXT is in the operators account.  At the 10000 NXT mark, the multiplier jumps much higher.  So, we're incentivizing NXT stakeholders to run the nodes, not operators with little stake in the NXT infrastructure itself.

Having said that, I'd love to hear other suggestions on how we can make NSC more successful, valuable, and targeted in the community. :)

I'm holding my NSC as part of my world-domination plan. When the voting system becomes active, we'll be able to vote by asset, and there's a chance we will decide to use NSC asset votes to influence Nxt policy.
