New to NXT & Cryptocurrency in general

Hi everyone. I had read a little a bout Bitcoin a year or so ago and decided to pass. Recently a friend posted about NXT on another board and got me interested. I'm still a little skeptical about Cryptocurrency but it seems to be catching on in a big way. I recently created my NXT acct. It may be a while before I can really get any NXT to work with. That's ok because I still have a lot to learn, lol.

Look forward to getting to know some of you here on the board.

Hey Twisted. Welcome to the community.

A word of advise from me: make sure your NXT wallet has a very strong password / passphrase and safe it somewhere secure. This will save you from a lot of headache :)

And have a look around, there are some interesting things going on here. :)

I did some research today on cryptocurrency... I had no idea that there were so many out there... All I had heard about before NXT was BTC & BTC Lite (I think that's right).

Yes, security is a primary concern and the one thing that stopped me from getting involved with BTC when I first looked into it. One thing attracted me to NXT is I don't have to have some super system to mine coins.  :)

That's right. We call this process "forging".

Forging has the purpose of writing transactions into blocks that are stored in the network. The more nodes that participate in this process, the safer the network.

Keep in mind that forging only gives a very small reward, it won't make you rich (doesn't work like Bitcoin where the inflation subsidies the miners, in Nxt we have a fixed supply). It's mainly for helping to secure the network.

MAKE sure you know how to create a super strong random passphrase with all sorts of combinations! BUT to make it easier just use the generated random words the client creates for you!

forging isn't something you can make money out of, its more of you protecting your own investment.
