I was given some funds for promotional work some time back and I've finally decided what I want to spend it on. I want to build a decentralized censorship resistant replacement for bitmit ontop of our blockchain. To that end I am looking for an experienced web applications developer who can write the code for servers to monitor the nxt blockchain and interpret arbitrary messages in such a way as to facilitate a service similar to the one that was provided by bitmit.

Thanks for taking a look!

I'd be happy to help whoever signs up for this. Using my NXTprotocol.c codebase:

main()
{
    register_NXT_handler(1,0,AM_handler,0x12341234,1,0,whitelist); // now the AM_handler will get called whenever AM with 0x12341234 is the first four bytes
}

int AM_handler(struct multigateway *mp,int histmode,char *txid,struct AM_struct *ap,char *sender,char *receiver,char *assetid,cJSON *json)
{
}

The multigateway structure maintains lots of useful info about NXT accts, assets, etc. but for just processing AM data, this should save a lot of time

And how do you see people paying in NXT on eBay?  ;D

eBay currently only allows selling and buying of NXT in dollars, like how you would buy a Lego set.

P.S.

Some advise: try to communicate in less of demanding way.

EDIT: misread what you were trying to say... sorry...

not just that. it wouldnt just be like a centralized service provided on a server like ebay that only uses nxt, it would actually be a censorship resistant ebay built ontop of the nxt blockchain. i hope i can find some talented developers. i was really hoping to find someone inside the nxt community but ill look outside of it if i have to.

I am also offering a bounty for a service like this.

My thoughts on how it should work in this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=317607.msg5699472#msg5699472

But I think it shouldn't be a web application. The user should run it on his local machine for added privacy.

My proposal also includes encrypting messages with the marketplace password, which also acts as the name for the marketplace.

I am building a prototype, which works as a command line program. But I'm also offering a bounty for somebody to implement it with a real GUI.

i am of the mind that we should have both a web app and a program that runs locally. i thought the web app would be nice to do first because it would be simpler and more accessible to ordinary people.

how were you planning on dealing with the space restrictions on the blockchain? my idea was just to have people post a magnet link to a torrent on the blockchain.

That's true, but i would prefer a local program for security and privacy.

Product descriptions should be limited to about 900 characters. If images are needed, only a link should be stored on the blockchain. Everything except images is on the blockchain.

so my problem with this is that its simply too limiting. 900 characters that is. i thought it would be nice to do it like ebay. ebay has some standard fields with pertinant information that you just fill out. you will see that at the top of an acution. things like, item condition, time left, starting bid, shipping costs, payment options ect... and then down below that standard form stuff there is a space for people to insert their own html code making a custom advertisement. I thought it would be nice to follow this model.

second is that we are trying to get censorship resistance and torrents are more censorship resistant than web-servers. we could have built in downloading and seeding in the local program or webserver so that everyone running a node would be storing a backup of all the information for all of the auctions but only until they expired so it wouldn't be burdensome.

also i like the idea of, instead of prefixing the message with a "flag" telling everyone that its part of your store, encrypting it with the name of your store. any idea about how the cost in storage space would compare between these two methods?

Maybe more than one message could be used to store the product description, but I'll start with the limited version because it is easier to implement.

second is that we are trying to get censorship resistance and torrents are more censorship resistant than web-servers.

I'll have the initial version store everything on the blockchain, so there will not be images at all.

There is both a prefix and encryption. The prefix adds some bytes but allows easier message lookup.

Encryption key is the name of your store. You can name your store 'Ebay' or you can name it 'Ebay_pguowjfgiue7357ughgdigjeuu87' if you want to keep outsiders out.

weird. it looks like our ideas are a little too different to be compatible. good luck with your project though!

i can code a program based on NXT Solaris.

After functions are defined, translating the program to web application may not be difficult.

Anon136 -- have you considered releasing clients that can be run locally?

Sellers' client: Gives a form where the seller fills in the blanks for fields like: Title, description, condition, photos, item location, expiry date, etc.. Then the client would format that into a file that could be read by the buyers' client and turn it into a magnet link that's published in the Nxt blockchain.

Buyers' client: Scrapes the blockchain for these magnet links and builds an ebay-type interface with the data.

I'm not a programmer, but it seems that making these two clients would be relatively simple, and it would not rely on web servers to provide the listings.

Just an idea...

we can do a program that runs locally. it may be better actually. would you consider taking on the job? could you give me a rough estimate of how much you think the job would cost in total. if its reasonable than we can discuss specifics and come up with a more specific bounty.

So as far as I understand it this would be an anonymous marketplace?

About local client vs. web based client:
Lets assume you are living in a country where buying oranges is forbidden. But you do like to buy oranges over the anonymous marketplace. Unfortunately your parcel with the oranges got intercepted by the police. The police is searching your computer and finds this client. Would this make you look better in front of the Judge? Probably not. I would recommend to have the client webbased. Reachable through Tor.

well we would need a reputation system or some sort of contract enforcement mechanism.

if one wanted strong anonymity than we could do something like this http://nashx.com/about http://nashx.com/HowItWorks

or if one wanted less anonymity than we could use the otc web of trust from bitcoin otc, this would require you to have an "identity" but it wouldn't necessarily have to have your government registered identity attached to it in any way.

in some sense we would be defining syntax that could be interpreted by anyone they wanted with any sort of software they wanted and displayed in any way they wanted anywhere they wanted. I would like to pay for the development of one system to interpret, organize and display this information but i would hope that parallel systems would be developed also.
