Why is NXT so slow?!
« on: November 04, 2014, 05:03:44 am »

I'm about to deploy a game and I wanted to rep NXT a bit so I've included it alongside Bitcoin but Bitcoin confirms in seconds (using blockchain info api) and NXT can take 20 minutes. Why is this so slow? I'm only waiting on one confirmation.

I guess with Bitcoin you do not choose 1 confirmation then... because its way slower than NXT.

If you do the same with NXT, you could also show unconfirmed transacion:

http://localhost:7876/nxt?requestType=getUnconfirmedTransactions&account=NXT-...-...-...-....

Maybe that could speed up things for you?

Thanks, I'm not sure what the deal is. I sent 26 NXT at 10:45 and at 11:15 there still isn't a confirmation?! This seems to be happening a lot also.

Depends on what you mean by "often". On average the time is two minutes. Some blocks only take some seconds. Half an hour blocks maybe happen every three hours I would say from my feeling (but you can check more exact numbers in blockexplorers).

This will change at some point. Transparent forging will give consistent 1min blocks. And things like instant transactions are in the works too. Though from what I see I would not expect any of those on main-net in the next 3 months.

The Bitcoin comparison is a bit complicated. I've seen single blocks over one hour also - though more rarely. And you need several blocks for a safe confirmation. Typically between 5 and 10. So even with the average 7min blocks it would come to half an hour.
