With the current development of things, low activity on this forum and stakeholders quitting us, the future is very bleak I am afraid!

The problem with this logic is there is nothing really more safe to quit for. Not one crypto-currency on the market can boast of more safety for long-term store of value. Don't get me wrong, there is no arguing it's prudent to diversify.

This forum is pretty active is this not the case. The problem is that the price not reflect the usability just the expectations of the future.

I think, if we make a big update is possible to mass adoption and increase the value of NXT.
Even we should make a rebrand and launch a new ICO and replace the old coins with the new NXT 2.0.

No post for 24h. This is exactly my initial thought. It's not that this forum is more or less alive than other alt forums, it's that this forum is dead in perspective of how alive it was before, when NXT was just in a much better situation in my opinion.

This sadness me as I really believed in NXT before, after all this is my first crypto!

"Price speculation" being quiet while discussion moves to other topics and to the backstage is good news from where I stand.

I do miss all the activity though.  I log on and see I've already read all the topics.  I miss the days when CobaltSkky was here, etc.

Yeah, the days when you could bitcoinpaul people. When there were epic rants about Bitshares being the Satan of Blockchain, posts with cryptic riddles by CfB, gif parties, yaaaay :)

You should join Slack though for more 'social' chat, it's a bit like IRC.

Anyone care to speculate what will happen to Bitcoin when the block reward halves this July?

Here's how one scenario plays out. First, mining revenue halves. This makes some miners uneconomical, so they switch off their machines to save paying for electricity. This reduces the total hash power of the network, so it takes longer to mine blocks. The number of transactions per hour won't change, so the same number of transactions will be competing for fewer blocks. As the network was already operating close to capacity, it will now be running over capacity and we'll see many full blocks. It will take longer to send coins, because it will be harder to get your transaction included in the next blocks, and when it does get included it will take longer to get 6 confirmations because the blocks are further apart. Normally the difficulty would adjust to the new hash power after 2 weeks, but since that time is measured in blocks, the slower blocks mean this state of affairs could last much longer.

This is not the first block reward halving, but its the first time one has happened when blocks were already nearly full. It could be interesting.

The argument against that scenario is that the big miners buy their electricity in bulk and in advance, so they won't save much money by switching off their mining rigs and the network hash power won't drop much. I don't know if that's true. It does seem that with the Bitcoin network is so close to capacity, that any perturbation could lead to it becoming clogged. The plan to increase capacity is called SegWit, and it doesn't look likely to be ready in time before the next halving.

On-chain fees could rise dramatically to make up for the loss of miner profits from reduction of rewards exacerbated by fewer blocks.

My prediction:
1) No significant price change. Everyone expects Bitcoin to rise due to a block halving, so it won't happen.
2) Hashrate will drop by 20-30%, leading to a slightly longer blocks for 2-4 weeks.

I predict many miners will put there money in new second generation crypto's like Waves. This is the time and the incentive for the oldtimers to think about the future. Too bad Nxt 2.0 isn't finished now, they could start forging on multiple chains. They like creating money, they will not stop crypto because the halving.

A lot of Mining speculation around the Halvening seems to have the assumption that miners are short term thinkers.

We've known the date of this halving since the start of bitcoin, so it stands to reason that the true professionals have planned for it.

My prediction is that nothing much will happen. A short movement in the market, followed by nothing much.

A few people will make money because of the short price movement. Then, business pretty much as usual.
