Just seen on an crypto exchange in New Zealand:

Quote
NXT ICO (BitcoinTalk) premined 100% insecure, uses unsafe brainwallets and java based.  possible trademark theft as the dev used NXT name that is used by other companies to trick users into beliveing an association exists where there is none.  They will not like their name being stolen and misused to promote a shady cryptocurrency.  Its recommended to  AVOID this outdated garbage as superior alternatives now exist for both asset issurance & decentalized exchange.  If you do use it ensure its isolated and has no access to sensitive infomation, use a highly complex and unguessable passphrase, if it can be cracked then anyone anywhere the world can take your funds instantly.

I think rebranding NXT is crucial to leave this accusations behind!

Many Bitcoin wallets have a similar passphrase to NXT, and nobody calls them insecure. It's true that calling it a brainwallet gives an impression that it is not secure. Brainwallet should just mean that the user memorizes the passphrase, but probably very few do this. It is a bad naming convention, as is the term forging.

Other cryptos don't care about trademarks, which I think is a better approach.

Java is a more secure language than C++. The problem with Java is that the user has to install Java in addition to Nxt. If there is a way to avoid that, then it should be done.

Why get worked up over these people?

If he wants to spout complete and utter tripe, you can't stop them.

Second, you fell into the "bait" trap, but actually quoting him and giving him a link, a very old Troll SEO trap.
You are actually giving him link power by doing this and playing into his hand. You see this happen on BCT all the time.

I advise to never do it, as it's actually doing exactly what they want.

It's a bloody small crypto site, with not even a 1000 posts!

They are obviously reading this forum, as they have seen and misinterpreted the trademark issue completely. That makes me laugh quite a bit. Always nice to see someone make an ass of themselves by not understanding what they write about. :)

Laughing at this kind of yobbo is the best thing to do and then move on.

You are right about the link, so I've removed it.

The laughter sticks in my throat because I've seen those accusations already a thousand times on bitcointalk.  :(
I'm under the impression that such is a common opinion about NXT among typical american bitcoin enthusiasts!

In none of the talks, interviews or discussions I have had outside crypto (or even inside crypto when talking to the more credible people) I have been asked about any of the raised issues.

Sane people are very capable of distinguishing idiocy or inept misinformation from real information.

This kind of trash talk will scare away some people, but anyone who is capable of doing independent research is able to see it for what it is. You can even recognise it by just looking at the way it's written (clickbait style).

You are talking about Cryptopia?
It doesnt appear to be an official statement from the exchange, but rather a poster on the forums.
Needless to say its total BS...

Sorry to be a harsh a-hole, but where are all those sane people buying and using NXT?

I really REALLY hope Nxt will make a comeback like you have never seen before, but I'm not holding my breath (keeping a small stash of NXT anyway for *you never know*  ;) )

Especially looking at Lisk with a budget of $6 MILLION and using a lot of Nxt / Ethereum ideas and also Java based, where does that leave Nxt? It's a sad time really...

Not a problem at all. I know how it looks and would probably be saying the same from your perspective.

So no breath holding please. Act like you feel is good. Just keep what I am saying in the back of your mind, is all we can ask.

I thought it was a raspberry pi from Evildave, running self sufficient on solar energy.

Wasn't it DaveTheTrousers'?

Eberon had a more futuristic setup  :D

Also solar powered. Eberon’s post: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=345619.msg5866213#msg5866213

Maybe you're right. Early model I guess.
BBC has just brought out Microbit, which looks like it could be pretty cool. It uses a web interface and you can write code in different languages and it compiles them for you to run on it. They're only being given out to students now, but I guess the first ones will start appearing on eBay in a matter of days.

That's a cubieboard 3, the best you could get at that time 2014. Meanwhile here is a alternative to rpi3, twice as fast for the same buck, $40:
Odroid-c2
* Amlogic ARM® Cortex®-A53(ARMv8) 2Ghz quad core CPUs
* Mali™-450 GPU (3 Pixel-processors + 2 Vertex shader processors)
* 2Gbyte DDR3 SDRAM
* Gigabit Ethernet
