Answered

as long as there are full archival nodes, can files be retrieved indefinitely?

maybe that is a useful addition to the answer.

Try to ignore exchanges like btc38, yubi and Yuanbaohui and you might get a clearer view.  :)

I did, so I looked at Poloniex. The NXT price is 2440 sat there.  ::)

I'm not enjoying this exacerbated pump when Nxt is involved. I'd much rather see a steady increase of 2% per day over the course of a couple of weeks.

I'm not so picky, will take anything :)
Steady increases can happen when the market cap is in trillions, with a 'T'. Bitcoin is billions and it's still volatile.

I think that SuperNET slack is doing both NXT & SuperNET slight disservice.

Since it's closed to the google bot and requires registration, any new potential investors are exposed only to the forum. This can scare them away because they will think that the community is 3 times smaller than it really is.

http://forum.supernet.org/ - First result for "supernet forum" has last post 27 days ago. Seriously, this can scare the shit out of investors.
I think that's part of the reason SuperNET is valued close to it's NAV.

-------------------

What might be a good idea:
A SuperNET Slack archive available directly on the main web page of the forum [like a trollbox on poloniex] by default set to the channel "general" or "nxt-general" on slack. With possibility to browse channel history without login.
So that investors know that there is a massive amount of communication, not one tiny forum behind NXT.

Looks like people need to commit to spending more time on the forums :)

Here's a question to ponder in the meantime. Can anyone think of a way of creating a transaction, or string or transactions, such that the recipient is a matter of chance - either Alice or Bob?

I'm pretty sure there are some very cool applications of phased txs and account control if we can put the pieces together the right way.

Create an account that holds 10 NXT.
Create and sign 10 transactions where you pay 10 NXT to Alice, dont broadcast.
Create and sign 10 transactions where you pay 10 NXT to Bob, dont broadcast.
Broadcast all 20 transactions to different nodes at the same time.
Only one transaction will be valid.

Good way to cause forks btw!

Try Ethereum in that case or some coin that supports SC  ;)

Edit: lolling of course  :P as it stands this is probably not possible, but could be added in many ways.
NXT architecture is very flexible for such things, would also run much more efficiently if built in core instead of a SC on Eth.

I was hoping for something a little more elegant :)

If there was some way in the core to have transaction variables.
Like instead of inserting an amount in the transaction you'll put a reference to some alias or other value where this amount can be set (in the future).
Same could be applied for recipient field.

If combined with some sort of chance mechanism where you assign a transaction that states that one value out of a set of values has to be selected (in the future) and you have your building blocks.

So to conclude..

1. Create transaction where RECIPIENT points to a alias X.
2. Create a CHANCE transaction where either Alice or Bobs account id is written to alias X (at random).
3. Have first transaction executed when a value is put in X.

Edit: On the topic of SC (smart contracts)

I personally (and probably also the other core devs) am very wary of introducing (free form) smart contracts because of the strain it will place on the processing power required to keep validating the ever growing chain. While it's nice for developers to have a full featured SC language running on the blockchain at the same time you could probably do 95% of what people on Eth are doing but without the full blown programming language.

Instead you could achieve this with transactions like the ones i mentioned, the difference with Eth being that these transactions could be optimized much better than the free form language (serpent if i'm correct - here is a nice playground http://etherscripter.com/0-5-1/) and optimization is something you definitly want if you also want smaller boxes to be able to download and process the chain.

- yes, just as Jean-Luc said:

It is harmful for the growth of a community to tell users to go to Slack, because Slack is a walled garden to which googlebot is not invited. Whatever is discussed there does not reach the public internet and might as well have never happened.

This is what happens when you compress the spring for a long time and then it's suddenly released.

Have you noticed, Nxt trading volume is still far from Dogecoin or even Factom, imagine if it gets to $1 million volume and more.
