Interesting fact in this context is that sweden has a negative interest rate of -0.35%. By banning cash they prevent that people withdraw their money from the banks!

IMHO crypto currencies can even be useful without cash. I for example have never bought any cryptos for cash. Sure it's getting easier for them to ban cryptos then, but you could still trade other assets and things for crypto.

the NIRP (negative interest rate policy) you mentioned is used to 'motivate' people to convert savings into consumption, no matter how useless it is as long it keeps the boat afloat.

Andy Haldane (Bank of England chief economist) recommended abolishing physical cash recently. His stated aim was to be able to charge people for storing their money in a bank account, thus causing them to spend it instead - basically a way of raising inflation/consumption when you've run out of road with the interest rates. He apparently said this without the slightest hint of shame.
I always recognised we weren't singing off the same hymnsheet, but this is something else.

Indeed, Cassius. It's a preposterous idea when there's supposed to be a lack of jobs in the UK.

So we have less job security but at the same time we are encouraged to spend (not save) while we actually have a job. Then if we lose our job due to fierce competition we have little in the way of benefits, which have been slashed by Iain Duncan Smith, because we should've been saving in these times of austerity.

The system is deeply flawed.

IIRC according to Keynesian economic theory you want to spend during times of hardship and save during times of prosperity because stimulating demand ends the hardships while saving during economic upturns lets you prepare for downturns.

I hope this puts some perspective into their line of thinking at least.

well, at least imf gave some numbers two years ago, wrapped into a pretty shy sub section.

inflating it away doesn't work it seems what else left? minting 1 trillion dollar platinum coins and put it where the sun never shines like the treasury did?

What you said is sensible. Unfortunately it's not their line of thinking.

Their line of thinking is:
Spend during times of hardship and spend during times of prosperity.

That's why every country on the planet has xx% GDP debt. Your system would lead to savings. :)

Btw (I don't think it was mentioned yet), the NXT wikipedia page won the struggle against the deletion request. Thanks for everyone who helped out - I think the references got indeed a lot better.

Still, the article got a lot shorter, because outside sources are hard to find. So if anyone finds anything (ideally non-crypto news or research articles), feel free to enhance the page.

Actually the political and academic classes enjoy this system because it leads to power conglomeration. Of course those with political power never cut back from spending, it's how they buy votes. They're barred from economic reality.

Ideally you'd want to save during times of hardship and spend during upswings.

The reason being that if times are good then you don't need to save as much money thus people are looking to consume which would lead to raised interest rates because there'd be less capital stored.

Then during harder times you'd save money to build infrastructure or other goods/services to create wealth. This would drive down things like interest rates because the higher rates would be in response to the lowered demand for consumption meaning that people are looking to spend their money in the future (which is why you'd want to do investment/building during these times rather than try to unload stock as the retailers are finding themselves trying to do at the moment to no avail.)

Why was there a delete request?

because most sources were from Nxt community and websites, so it sounded like self promotion

I am selling 20M FIMK, which is NXT's Finnish cousin.  My current price is 0.9 BTC per 1M FIMK, which is actually quite a bargain.  I am maintaining 5M blocks on CCEDK; PM me if you want to arrange a larger buy via escrow.

Nice post! Is there a tutorial somewhere on MS that easily explains how to create the coins?
