@zorke: $9mil lost through falling bitcoin prices, rest [$5mil] thanks to bad money management.
They still have $2mil left.

Still, imagine what NXT would have with $5mil of funding.

Ouch @Ethereum.
Though, we might have wasted $5 million just as easily, if we had had the funds to waste.
Having a very small community fund forced us to be economical, particularly with marketing, but if that wasn't the case.....
As it is, I estimate that we've spent around $ 250,000 on Nxt core related stuff over the last 2 years, if not more.

This is called 'proof of burn'.
Explains the price crash in the last few days. People must have known this news was coming.
This is called "Spending someone else's money on yourself".
Don't mock the proof-of-burn. It was a great idea to get initial distribution while proving that you don't benefit directly from it.

It was an hilarious pun. http://www.investopedia.com/terms/b/burnrate.asp

Ethereum looks like one big scam to me, interesting to see that NEM is now creeping back up again ... ;D

Please fix https://twitter.com/nxtcommit

Watching development progress used to give this warm and fuzzy feeling. Not any more, and it's so depressing :(

We should have bought a community house. So we could all have a roof over our head when things go down.  ;D

on what exactly do they spend 340,000 CHF per month?
there will be salaries, office space, travel expenses, and hosting costs. What else? IP lawyers and lobbyists?  ::)

How would that add up to 340,000 CHF per month?
Paying 30 employees (number out of thin air) 5,000 CHF per month would land them at 150,000 monthly- so what else?
Silicon valley start-ups spend a lot too :)
That's what they are actually, good for them. probably not so good for crypto though.
Time to go further

Working for Crypti I know exactly what they pay for. Marketing and ads.

You want a CoinDesk article and some ads? Pay $3000! CoinTelegraph? $2200!

It's crazy and a huge money market..

Yup, and it's not that hard to see why: demand is great and the supply is low. Classic economics :)

Lots of projects want/need to get the message out and there is a lot of free money floating around in projects.

So offering advertisements is an easy way to make money.

Pity that in all these industry magazines the articles always suffer because they almost always need to degenerate into some form of clickbait :(

What sort of traffic are those sites getting? I'd like to price BitScan competitively, and maintain some sort of quality...

Done!  ;D ;D

I started that poll!  ;D

Mainly to judge the feeling in the BCT community.
Nothing really scientific about this poll, but its interesting to see how attitudes have changed over the last 12 months.
Lots of NEM and NXT holders will obviously be voting there, but if i did this poll 2 months ago, i doubt NEM would have had the same number of votes, even 12 months ago, i did a similar poll and NXT came right out on top.

Interesting to see how little Ethereum votes there are currently.

Today's xpool.ca multipool payout is 755+ NXT, 30+ BTCD, 0+ FIBRE, 246+ BITS, 3+ DASH, 0.457+ LTC, 6+ VTC & 0.307+ BTC

Additionally 30.331 DASH was found and sent to X11 miners in the past 24 hours.

Recent updates:

We've now added Vertcoin (VTC) as a valid payout option! MonaCoin (MONA) is now live on our Lyra2REv2 ports. Myriad (MYR) has been moved to merge mining and is enabled on our SHA256 ports.

MobileCash (MBL) has been added as a merge mined coin on the Lyra2REv2 ports. It has yet to hit an exchange so if you want to keep your share, you need to set your MBL address in your settings.

Cheers!

I am surprised nobody here mentioned it already! Someone wants to try and explain me how the hell they have managed to squander $18 millions? I guess they are out of money!

https://blog.ethereum.org/2015/09/28/the-evolution-of-ethereum/

The same way the Bitcoin Foundation managed to "lose" their money and went near bankrupt.

When people get too much money without working for it, they cannot appreciate it. I personally work hard for every dime, that is what makes a person disciplined.

Having a large pile of wealth is something I'd really only feel secure about if I had a revenue stream to back it up. You can burn wealth SO easily it's almost absurd. (And when you understand that, the envy felt towards the wealthy becomes quite ridiculous.)

I want to float an idea regarding transaction fees here:

currently, 1 Nxt/tx fee is mostly adequate. However, if Nxt price gets volatile, we should be able to quickly adapt. To what?

Suggestion: Postage.

We peg the TX fee to some external utility: For example 1/50th of  some average of a basket of postage fees.

Currently, 1 Nxt is roughly 1/50th of what you have to pay to send a letter via surface mail.

Volatility of Nxt price is a very real possibility, and we should have contingencies for that case in place when it occurs.

There is probably a thread for that, but I couldn't find it so I post it here. Has higher exposure anyway.

Just stumbled across this PDF:
http://bitfury.com/content/4-white-papers-research/2-proof-of-stake-vs-proof-of-work/pos-vs-pow-1.0.2.pdf

The conclusion is of course no surprise  ;)
But maybe someone can use it for something.
