About price speculation at this point. There are many surges going into cryptocurrencies in general from people who want more security then the general cash they have. It forces people to think through the 'what if' scenarios and that is causing bitcoin to go up slightly over the past days. You see a reflection of this upward trend with altcoins. Just as always they will follow whatever bitcoin price does. The thing that still bothers me is that Nxt is getting very little exposure in general and a big lack of interest. All of this because we lack overall marketing in my eyes and are to into ourselves. I posted topics about this before, so I'm not going to chat about it in price speculation but as far as price goes, it is on a very weak rise and I don't expect NXT to move a lot up over the course. Just basic stagnation for the time being.

Drachmae project (which works with NXT via NXT2PAY platform) and NXT mentioned in the Daily Express. Mainstream attention, anyone? :D

http://www.express.co.uk/travel/articles/587781/Greece-holiday-cash-credit-card-advice-tourism-beach

Great! The more mainstream mention - in non-controversial contexts - the more people will have heard of "something called Nxt" and think there's something nice about it. :)

Mainstream mentions like this will make it much less difficult to evangelize to the mainstream when the time comes.

A bit less mainstream, but Alex Batlin of UBS has been releasing articles mentioning NXT for a while now :)

I agree with much of what you said.  I think it's going to take a pretty big skyrocket of BTC for people to start getting interested in Nxt. There is a lot to love about Nxt, but we need a mass adoption of crypto and right now the entry point is BTC.  A few more killer Nxt apps would help as well.

It's the BTC-E effect. (Should probably check where volume is actually happening, but that was the case in the past.)

You are probably right. Their volumes are from BTC-E - http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/volume/24-hour/
Probably they are still the same traders as one year ago.

For people who are always wondering when the next block will be, I just finished up the block predictor plugin for NRS

https://nxtforum.org/nxt-plugins/(plg)-next-block-predictor-plugin/

NRS plugin development is fairly entertaining, sort of annoying to debug though..

Cheers, jones! I shall buy some more Jay today in respect!

P.S. Will a toggle on/off switch be forthcoming? It obscures the bottom option in my client.

The main reason I put it on the left was because I noticed the blocks downloading thingy was on the right, but I just now realized that when you're downloading blocks, you are unable to use this plugin well anyway, so I can just put it underneath that downloading widget until the blocks are done.

If I do that then it shouldn't be in the way of anything.

Seems like the next block is not being forged...

http://nxtportal.org/monitor/

That was strange... Block 463205
The about 8 forgers in row were unable to forge the block, and NXT-F9AF-P9FM-V73D-3P736 was able to forge it.

Seems to me the false transaction can still block forgers to create a valid block, so that the forger that knew about it can remove it and forge (aka steal) the block instead.

Vice: Bitcoin is Unsustainable

Always good to see bitcoin people are so open to criticism and responding in a mature, thoroughly argumented and above all balanced manner...

Vice: Bitcoin is Unsustainable

Sensationalism.

https://medium.com/@FavorableCarry/relax-about-bitcoin-electricity-use-1ca2446ae5ab

I find that an unconvincing rebuttal. He addresses none of the points. He's using todays numbers - ignoring that if the price will rise, the energy costs will too. If energy is cheaper, even more will be burned.
And of course - Bitcoin will not evaporate the Banking infrastructure. People will still need services around Bitcoin.

Always good to see bitcoin people are so open to criticism and responding in a mature, thoroughly argumented and above all balanced manner...

  ;D

I'm a bit surprised by that. No one so far has a proper numbers-based counter argument.
The only thing unclear is what the halving will do. Has anyone here predictions? Would the mining go down? Will fees result in high enough difficulty... if there is not enough reward, then outspending the miners might be easier?
Though, my guess is that it's too far away to matter for the debate now.

A bit less mainstream, but Alex Batlin of UBS has been releasing articles mentioning NXT for a while now :)

https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/crypto-20-musings-multi-asset-chains-alex-batlin

For those who don't know UBS: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UBS

Would it be too much trouble to assemble a list of mainstream mentions of Nxt? We're coming up to the time when outside evangelism will be feasible. The "air" in Bitcointalk is close to the opposite of what it was last year, and the Nxt codebase is becoming mature. Plus, all the outside press I've seen has been more-or-less favourable.

"Soft sell" evangelism is like starting a conversation when your tongue's tied. You need an "icebreaker" to get the conversation rolling, to "break the ice." It occurred to me that the mainstream mentions all serve as good icebreakers. Case in point: amongst libertarians, "Did you read Reason mag's Don't Tread On My Internet issue? I'm involved with Nxt, and it got a blurb in 'Bitcoin and the Cypherpunks....'" I'm sure everyone can see how Greece can serve as an icebreaker. ;)

That's why I'm asking, to see if you have or will have a bucket list of mainstream blurbs. Each of them can serve as an icebreaker to get a conversation about Nxt rolling.

With Greek Uncertainty, Investors Seek Safety in Gold and Bitcoin: http://www.wsj.com/articles/with-greek-uncertainty-investors-seek-safety-in-gold-and-even-bitcoin-1435705212

I saw that. It looks like there's more to Bitcoin's rise than speculator games.
