2kool, I think you would enjoy this as an alternative: http://www.scribd.com/doc/186071279/Hop-System-for-Store-of-USD-Value
Cunicula's currency idea, like a well planned bitUSD
"replace the FED with a computer"

*don't tell anyone but I'm writing up some plans to see if this is achievable as an MS currency with a modified side chain

This seems much more plausible than Bitshares' implementation.
I plan to implement this next year, hopefully cunicula will come out of hiding to help with his project

James

I was under the assumption that cunicula pulled a Satoshi and just disappeared but it would be great if he came back. I'd be happy to help with the implementation where needed, a solid hop implementation could change everything.

Just finished my latest project, TokenJS.

https://github.com/jonesnxt/tokenjs

With this library you are able to create an nxt token with only pure javascript, where previously you needed to send your secretphrase to the server. I created it for a few of my own projects as well as a recent suggestion for it from another person.

I suggest that this be implemented into NRS, or a version of it, so people on public nodes can generate tokens without worrying about sending their passphrase to the server.

Many thanks! We will put it to good use at MyNXT! It works perfectly.

What's a good NXT faucet?

AFAK there is one working facuet at the moment http://188.226.197.131/nxtfaucet/
Further, freenxt.org can be seen as a kind of faucet.

Nxtra's and Mofowallet's NXT faucets are currently offline.

One that deposits at least 1 NXT.

Nxtra's and Mofowallet's NXT faucets are currently offline.

We should really do something about nxtra.
On the BCT thread people are having problems with that wallet, not being able to connect.

I'd advise at least taken of any references and links we have to it.

Not being able to connect how? Can you show me the post? (As you know I'm terribly busy unfortunately).

Anyway, the instructions on how to build your own installer for windows; if possible I would like a few people here to try this, and also report the hashes, I haven't tested if they would match or not when built on different systems..

Quote
1. Install Node

http://nodejs.org/download/

2. Install git

http://git-scm.com/download/win

(during setup choose "use git from the Windows command prompt")

3. Open command line.

Execute "cmd.exe" in Windows.

4. Install grunt

> npm install grunt
> npm install -g grunt-cli

5. Clone the repo

> git clone https://bitbucket.org/nxt-wallet/nxt-wallet-win.git

6. Create the binary.

> cd nxt-wallet-win
> grunt

7. Place files in folder

Open the webkitbuilds folder, navigate to the "win" folder.
Place the created Nxt Wallet.exe in another folder, together with icudtl.dat and nw.pak
Place the newest Nxt version in a subfolder called “nxt”.

8. Change the app icon

The icon can be downloaded here: http://nxtra.org/AppIcon.ico

Download resource Hacker: http://www.angusj.com/resourcehacker/
File > Open > Choose the binary.
Action > Replace Icon > Open File with New Icon
File > Save

9. Make the installer

Download inno setup: http://www.jrsoftware.org/isdl.php
Open the setup.iss script included in the repository
Change the myAppVersion to the new version info.
Change the directories to point to the binary / icon files (step 7).

(Building for mac should be self-explanatory for anyone who knows xcode.)

Instructions also provided to mrv-777 who will be building a new version soon. Then I can redirect the site to the official nxt.org download page instead.

Quick question about the JLH asset lottery - see latest Supernet newsletter if unfamiliar.  Anyway, to participate you need to buy a 100 or so jl777hodl from a specific account.  When you purchase assets on the multigateway, is there a way to specify which account you buy from?  There are a few other accounts with the asset at a slightly lower price - you need to buy from the one account 'if you want a ticket to the lottery'.  Not sure if I put a buy order in, it will hit out of the right account.  Maybe if I put the account exact price it will automatically purchase out of that account?  Thanks!

Good question.  If the GLYDA account isn't the lowest one, then purchases would go to the lowest and thus not qualify.  If this is the case, DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THE MARKET, instead send the NXT (you would have used for purchase) with a note saying something about the lottery to the GLYDA account (NXT-PY3K-SDTG-PHTV-GLYDA) and I'll send you the shares (use the price of the lowest GLYDA sell order; for example, right now, the lowest sell price is 4.03; if you wanted 10 tickets, you would send 4030NXT to the GLYDA account and I would send you back 1000 shares which is 10 tickets).  Those will then qualify as lottery shares (1 ticket per 100shares).

I've probably distributed half the tickets so far this way.  Unfortunately, this was a little caveat that jl and I hadn't considered and I apologize for the inconvenience.  If I'm awake, I do send the shares really quick after I receive the payment.  Of course, feel free to PM for details/questions/etc.

Ok - will send over the Nxt directly to the GLYDA account later today - tied up at work for most of today.  Thanks for the help.

The Fed is claiming that "bitcoin has no intrinsic value."

http://cointelegraph.com/news/113209/the-federal-reserve-publishes-another-paper-on-bitcoin

Now, before you join the chorus of others who agree with the author of the linked article, let's look past the claim of the Fed's report and consider the implication.  If BTC (and crypto) have no value in the eyes of the Fed then it shouldn't be taxable and, arguably, regulated?

Am I wrong in assuming that this is what we would want to hear?  Essentially, they are ignoring cryptocurrencies because they are "worthless"!  Sound's to me like the Fed might be going easy on us (for now) even though they are aware of the unregulated gambling and digitial-securities that are being created by this technological revolution.

Not to mention the other point that the US Federal Gov't is out selling/auctioning off previously seized coins.. so they are selling something to investors that arguably (from their vantage point) may be worthless?  Imagine if a company sold shares/bonds/assets that were seemingly worthless?  The SEC would be ALL OVER THEM and the offering documents proclaiming fraud.  Arrest would follow.

They are right about Bitcoin having no intrinsic value. No intrinsic value != worthless, just look at any fiat currency. It's reckless printing of fiat currencies that drives them to worthlessness, not the lack of intrinsic value.

PayBase.com will be opening tomorrow. Also, the PaySave chrome extension I expect will be released tomorrow too.

XPY is trading at coinswap and cryptsy. Also, GAW just announced they purchased coinswap and will be integrating the exchange into PayBase. Currently selling at about $14 per coin.

I would say for sure it is alive, and going strong.

That's not what the report says. Bitcoin has value, just not intrinsic value. The report says, "A bitcoin's value is derived mainly from its use for making payments in the Bitcoin system, and from the purpose of accruing gains from bitcoins' possible appreciation".

Oh, hmm... Well that certainly is a different perspective.

*late disclaimer* I found this article this morninf after coming into work.  I had the time to read the article, but not yet the time to digest the report.

I'll need to read the report and think about this.

Also, I noticed that the article was published today but the report is dated October 2014.  Is this article old news, and Coin Telegraph (and myself) just late to the party?  I assumed that this was internally published in October, but only recently discovered/made public.  Of course, that could be wrong.
