NXT-Wallet (Android) V0.0.10 alpha (in store)
« on: January 23, 2015, 06:31:08 pm »

Hi guys,

I’m starting to work on an android app.

This is still in test!

Play store: NXT-Wallet

Features:
  • Create an new account
  • Add accounts to the list by typing
  • Add accounts to the list by scanning QR code
  • Add accounts to the list by scanning NFC tag
  • See the current balance in the list of you'r accounts
  • See all balance values for the selected account
  • See the transactions
  • See your current assets
  • Get notifications for new transactions on the account you are watching
  • Multi language
  • Address book
  • Send money with local signed transactions

Today June, 3th 2015, I uploaded version 0.0.10 as an alpha release. This is available in the store.

I'm afraid for asking, but what would you like to be the next feature?

Feature requests:
- Send encrypted messages
- Current assets prices

I will modify this post when more features are added.

How will you handle the password entry on mobile? Passwords are very long and hard to type on mobile.

Good question, what can i do about it?

Yes it is long, but you can send yourself an mail with the pass in it and copy paste. But that can be a risk also.
The question is also, should i save it on the device? At the moment i choose not too. I think about it as an security risk.

But seriously? What are the alternatives?

I've my passwords in keepass. With the keepass app you will be able to paste it into the corresponding entry.

One feature I'm really missing on mobile is being able to check asset prices and buy/sell them. This would be a great deal :D

What is the "select a node" setting? Why do I need it in my wallet?

You need it to get info. I don't want to force you to login at my server or someone else it server. I also don't want the whole block chain on my device. So the best option is to let the user enter it.
Or maybe get an list with working nodes in the future. Also it remembers your last entered server and account. Just NOT your secret password.

It is a problem, that's why I was asking what you were thinking:) I am currently working on an android app to provide 2 factor auth so you will generate a passphrase on the device and there is a mechanism to link it to another address. You will need to sign with both keys through an android push notification in order for the transaction to go through. App is called NxtVault, I was thinking one day it could be used as an account vault that can sign transactions for other applications via an intent....

No. The best option is not to let the user enter it.

Why?

Well there are several reasons.
First the costs off keeping an VPS running for this purpose.
Some users i already spoke to want to connect to their own server.
Thats the only server they trust.
If my server is down then people can use http://www.peerexplorer.com/ to stil get some info.
Maybe is the better option to make it option.

So that are some reasons, but im sure others have even better reasons.

Most people won't face these problems. You can create such an option to please the rest and hide somewhere in the Settings->Advanced.
For an A-grade application you will need to spend some money. Purchase a VPS, hire a designer, buy a Google Play certificate...

I won't be using my real accounts passwords in an app when I do not know where this password is used/entered.

I would really appreciate the option to enter my own node. Maybe you can get default nodes from peerexplorer's API?

Password should be stored at the device (anything else will be less secure as it will result in passwords flying around as plaintext in emails, sms, sticky notes, etc). Users should be protecting their devices with pass codes.

I would only provide my password to an NRS I trust, so ability to chose server is paramount.

Hi guys,

i'm starting to work on a android app. Starting basic.

Features:
  • Select an node (ip:port style)
  • Login with secret password
  • See the current balance
  • See the transactions

At the moment it is not yet for download. I need some more testing.
I'm affraid for asking, but what would you like to be the next feature?

Keep in mind im just having an account for 2 days, so keep it simple.

Thank you for your initiative.

For the already mentioned features, you do not need to enter your passphrase. It basically would be an account watcher.

You only need the passphrase if you want to create transactions or want to decrypt messages.

Thanks for all the feedback already without seeing the app.
Make me rethink about some things i have created.
So after adding some more things, i will probably redesign things.

Just added an bid order for an nXtGenGHS so i could test my newest addition.
See your current bid/ask orders. Well the bid part is tested now :D

One thing i would like to have input about... Should i or should i not save the secret password?
Another option is requesting it when needed. Or save it with a pincode. So that you give an pincode when you want to use it.
So others still can use it without the pincode.

Pincode is a good solution. And I have an idea for you. You can generate a secret phrase on the first run so the user won't need to enter this long string on his small phone screen.
