The NRS should be included with any distribution of Debian releases :)

R

PPA repository with Ubuntu and Debian packages would be convenient.

I'm not sure that throwing money into sponsorship in a Linux environment would necessarily gain adoption. Great programs and software suites seem to emerge all of the time. Having a great tool for the job is probably more important IMHO, and we have that. Having a good relationship with the Linux community is an awesome step forward though, and this is great news. I'm just saying don't necessarily chuck a bunch of Tennessee money into it because if it's good then the community will react accordingly anyway.

Top work, guys. :)

A good point. I agree Linux's (and maybe the open source ecosystem at large's) more organic adoption may not be served by trying to push NXT too aggressively, lest we go past promotion into perceived shilling. While I trust that Damelon, EvilDave, JL777 and others have many irons in the fire that continue to reinforce the small-f foundation, I wonder what other large-scale avenues NXT--its core, supporters, and advocates in the community--can continue to target that may be 1) unaware of NXT's platform offerings, 2) well served by its relatively modular flexibility, and 3) tie directly into a large user base that expands beyond the typical crypto-adept population without going against the philosophy of NXT. I.e., I wonder how many NXTers want to see NXT tied in much with R3CEV (beyond the desire for a higher potential valuation)

That said, the idea of the NXT NRS being the MS/OpenOffice-style "default", easy, free, and ready-to-go toolkit for businesses
-group voting (of owners, shareholders or even customers)
-recording ownership (singleton assets or otherwise)
-reward points (as an MS currency)
-fundraising/rewards (in the form of dividends on assets)
-etc.

seems appealing and a natural fit, not even touching on the current and future DeBuNe-specific additions.

I suspect capodieci's note about making the NRS included with distro releases was half-joking, but I can hardly imagine a better inclusion for a small business/freelancer looking to build an infrastructure inexpensively with Linux. Wwhat a huge accomplishment that would be; maybe raspbian/noobs/ubuntu to start ;). Hopefully that could be a real consideration down the line as the Linux foundation relationship grows!

Thanks to all the NXTers driving this forward. I hope to find the niche I can add value to and join the ranks. :)

What we couldn't tell you until the PR from the Linux Foundation had gone..........

Congratulations Damelon.

And to everyone else, I want to say that real deals can not ever be announced before hand.  I have learned this the hard way.

Anytime you see somebody announcing a big partnership with a large known organization and especially a publicly traded company you have to sign a NDA.  This means you are not able to talk about it at all.

So when some app says they will work with Citibank, they are lying if Citibank didn't announce it first in a press release.  Or if some project says they are working with a big company, again they are lying and it is a pump.  These guys saying they have "big news" are just pumping, because if they did have big news and they were leaking it they would be risking getting sued or worse.

Real news just gets dropped like Damelon just did out of nowhere.  I hope in the future there can be more announcements like this.

Thanks, @jabo38  :D

Yes....integration of Nxt with some Linux distros, and/or creating repos for the main Linux distros would be very good things to have.

As ever: we can think/brainstorm about this, but to make it happen we will need someone to step up and actually put the work in.
Any volunteers ?
I can promise some bounty from TNSSE funds..... :-X

@AQQA: yep, we're not planning on shilling NXT or on getting too far into bed with R3, you'll be happy to hear.
What we will be doing is building a relationship and helping to further the aims of the OS movement, but we don't have any grand plans beyond that.
The LF Affiliate Membership felt like a perfect fit for Nxt, and (being economical) only cost the same as one press release.
I think it's worth it, but time will tell.

Thanks for the explanation; I'm excited to see how this continues to grow.
I wish I could take on some of this work but I have practically no coding experience...slowly working to rectify that shortcoming, but it'll be a while till I can contribute anything of note. Nonetheless, will be reaching out and working on some summary writing.

Being honest, coders are useful, but we also need people who can simply represent Nxt in a reasonably professional way to the outside world.
Or write...or edit the Wiki.... ;D

OK....anyone want to go to beautiful Lake Tahoe, California ?

http://events.linuxfoundation.org/events/collaboration-summit

Check out the conference info: this is intended to be a very high level, invitation-only conference/networking opportunity. It would be very good to have an Nxt presence there, but we will need someone who can work at the Summits intended level.
If any Nxt'er thinks they can handle this...let me know, and we'll get working on an invite.

I agree.

Forging lasting connections with industry leaders and experienced people is much less important than having a logo on a site!
