If you think it is misplaced, please move this to "Off topic", or to "Inspiring concepts", or to "The grand scheme of things"  ;) ... or to any other subforum where it fits better.

Thanks.

This thread is an attempt to move a discussion over here which started over there:

Marc De Mesel's hypothesis.
altsheets' answer, and suggestion to move it over here.

copied over from that thread where it was off-topic:

And somehow that move might have perhaps been inspired by me watching
Michel Bauwens (p2pfoundation) excellent talk, which I might not have noticed
without this contest.

Sorry you didn't win :/

Just listened to a part of it. Not sure I agree with his reasoning.

He gives an example why "we need instruments to make sure distribution is fair" with real estate. "First you have artistic people moving in a trashed down neighborhood, they give new life to it. Then real estate investor hear about it and start investing in it bidding up prices to such level that the artistic people, that created the value, need to move out."

I don't think his reasoning is correct. If the artistic people invested their hard earned money into the real estate they would have gained a lot more then the investors coming afterwards. Often the artistic people have to move out because they invested much less then the investors coming afterwards. They were interested to go there because they had to pay little or no rent, but not interested to invest, and first save money to do so.

Marc! Welcome!

... inspired by me watching Michel Bauwens (p2pfoundation) excellent talk ...

Just listened to a part of it. Not sure I agree with his reasoning.

Yes, and that is by far not the only provocative thought. Quite cool move,
to invite a postcapitalist as a keynote speaker to a blockchain conference.

If the artistic people invested their hard earned money
into the real estate they would have gained a lot more
then the investors coming afterwards.

Yesbutno. I definitely understand what you mean, and yes there are "artistic people" who are also "investors", but perhaps those are not the kind that M.Bauwens means?  Personally, I have met tons of "artistic people" - and you might not know one essential aspect of their lives, and that weakens your (otherwise definitely correct) argument ... and that is that many many of "artistic people" are hardly surviving, they are happier than the average - and poorer. Their (self chosen!) lifestyle is not profitable, they somehow always get by - but often "at the end of the money there is still a lot of month left".
You are using a verb "invest" - which is a term that -yes- it is used very often, especially in the cryptoscene - but mostly only by those people who have excess funds they can afford to loose. The vast majority of humanity is not in that situation. And tomorrow even less than yesterday, by simple trend continuation. Until perhaps we start recoding money as such.

But THANKS! for sharing your thoughts about this. Happy to go deeper when
I find the time. However, it IMHO belongs somewhere else. Shall we open a thread?
