Hashrate.org needs YOU!
« on: April 21, 2014, 08:07:15 pm »

Hi all,

The mining pool has closed it's doors for some final internal reorganization to optimize the server configuration (it should be able to easily scale up to 5-10 GH of Scrypt miners once it re-opens).

What I need is some help from each of YOU.

I need to make sure that the entire crypto community has heard of Hashrate and the Hashrate NXT Moon Trip, and that come thursday they are going to be waiting for the pool to be available again.  I also need as many of you who have miners to make sure that on thursday you start mining on our pool, and abandon the various other pools people might be using.

If anyone has any graphic design skills, I'd love to have some banners made up for the pool (I will pay to run them on bitcointalk if they're good enough).  There will be some news releases going out that should be timed to run throughout the coming weekend - I'd like to have the pool be on the bounce already prior to the people reading those articles visiting it for the first time. If any of you write crypto blogs, or newsletters or anything  - please get the information out as well.  Please use the Twitter hashtag #Mine4NXT (I'd love to see it trending, but haha, i doubt that's possible)

Also, if any of you lurk IRC channels throughout the day - we will be using #NXTPool as the IRC channel for the pool.  I am not currently in it, but I will be starting tomorrow or wednesday, and I will be there pretty much all the time.  If any of you could help shore up the numbers in the channel starting thursday that would be great.

So please - make sure to make tweets, facebook posts, reddit threads, forum site threads, anything that you can to make sure that people are aware of the Hashrate NXT Moon Trip, that would be amazing.

I'm open to suggestions for other ways to generate publicity.

If you have an official announcement text, you can post it here and we can translate in other languages (french for me). It's a good thing to make our own announcements on the "languages forums".

I will certainly point my miner to it but I hope the servers will be stable then because the most annoying thing is to redirect the miner to another pool because of a downtime.
I will also do some advertising on reddit and BTT. It would be nice to poach some miner from other multipool but any idea how to contact them?

There should not have to be any kind of stratum-server affecting outages.
The stratum and the web server roles are being broken out onto totally seperate servers, to prevent exactly this.

Bloggers feel free to quote

Quote
BTC2.0 - Bitcoin's future is NXT
The crypto-currency markets have exploded in growth over the last year, with prices for the most common cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, peaking at over $1000 per coin.  This has resulted in numerous other forms of cryptocurrencies springing up trying to capitalize on the marketplace.  From either shortening the round time (Litecoin, Feathercoin) to simply ending the mining of new coins and claiming to only be a proof-of-stake coin (Blackcoin, Whitecoin) there are very few features that any of these rival 'Coins' offer that do not already exist in the coin that they try to emulate, Bitcoin.  Quietly however, in the background behind the whole Bitcoin explosion, a team of people have quietly been working on what has been referred to as Bitcoin 2.0: NXT.  NXT is an advancement in the fundamental techology behind Bitcoin, and brings with it an entirely new code base as opposed to being a simple fork of the existing code.  NXT is one of the first implementations of some of the technologies that are considered to be 'second-generation cryptocurrency' such as decentralized voting system, decentralized peer to peer exchange as well as anonymous messaging platform. NXT is also able to solve perhaps the biggest shortcoming Bitcoin has through it's capability to process transactions virtually instantly.

Early Adoption?
Investors are flocking to get behind NXT as early as possible. Similar to Bitcoin, those who are able to identify the technical innovation behind the product are likely to be rewarded greatly for their early investment.  The NXT ecosystem (as with features like those named above makes it far more than a simple currency) is still one that can be easily bought into by the average investor without needing the amount of capital required for a sizable investment into the Bitcoin market space.

Why NXT?
NXT was the first 'proof of stake' cryptocurrency, which means that all of the coins in the marketplace have existed since the coin began. This is as opposed to the traditional Bitcoin coin, which uses 'proof of work' mining to create new coins.  Transactions on the network are secured via paying transaction fees, and the reward for solving blocks on the block chain is the transaction fees for the transactions that the block contains. Several of the other Bitcoin 'clone' coins recently have experienced surges in sheerly speculative value by branding themselves 'Proof of Stake' coins but they fail to recognize a basic tenet of economics:  scarcity may drive up price, but it does not create demand.  Demand is tied to the utility of that item, as well as how scarce that item is.  BlackCoin, for example, has only slightly more utility than Bitcoin (a shorter confirmation time).  NXT, however, is at the forefront of a number of breakthrough cryptocurrency technologies and demand for these technologies will be at a premium in the future.

Acquiring NXT
The price for a single NXT 'coin' still experiences a great deal of daily volatility, similar to Bitcoin.  In order to help mitigate these daily fluctuations a mining pool has been created to help stabilize and increase the price of NXT.  Operating in limited beta test mode for over 30 days already, Hashrate has succeeded in already paying out to it's miners the equivilent of over 15 bitcoins worth of NXT.  The long term effect of a continual infusion of BTC into the NXT ecosystem every day will result in the value of the coin increasing.  Miners who look at their mining equipment as an investment could hardly find a better choice of mining pool than Hashrate - they will get a higher payout in NXT coins than any other pool would give them in BTC.

For those who are not miners: anyone who has invested on technological speculation should consider including NXT in their investment portfolio.  The currently low prices combined with the game-changing technological features that have come out of the NXT ecosystem make it one of the few cryptocurrencies that has a bright future.  NXT is available for trade on nearly all of the major cryptocurrency exchanges, and has an exchange dedicated exclusively to assist people with obtaining NXT: DGEX

some tips..

instead: NXT was the first 'proof of stake' cryptocurrency - there should be pure or 100 percent:
NXT was the first pure 'proof of stake' cryptocurrency

spelling - equivilent

instead lame Whitecoin, there could be famous Peercoin

A little problem is with this that comes from too old data: "decentralized voting system, decentralized peer to peer exchange as well as anonymous messaging platform." - there are cooler known features now, but also remember - anything that builds Nxt, can be built on top of Bitcoin too, but - it will be slower. And establishing will take much more time because of the slow development

Sal, do you mind giving me a hand and editting it however you'd like or how you think something should go to the media?
I don't have a ton of NXT, but I can give you a bounty for it once I get the promotional fund xfer from the MC.

Everyone, please add @Hashrate_org to your twitter and re-tweet stuff.  If someone is willing to step up the social media mantle, I would greatly appreciate it (pm me for the credentials to the twitter and gmail and stuff) (punkrock man, where are you these days??)

BTW, can some of you please start to post in https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=522872.msg5793077#msg5793077

I know with cgminer you can set up multiple pools with different priorities, so if one goes offline, it connects to the next one and mines that pool. Keeps my mining uptime near 100% even if pools go down ;D

Bump.
GPUs will be profitable enough for a pool like this for several more monthes at least, then there's always X11 and keccak.

I really need every single person who reads this thread today to try their best to post about the pool at least three different ways on social media before the end of the day.  Come on guys, there were ~50 miners who mined pretty much the whole beta period, where are they all now? This is for the collective good.

I would like to know why you said you would leave hashrate.org:3008 and hashrate.org:5008 up for several more days, the within hours you abruptly shut the pool down. I had some serious power pointed at your pool, and that stunt cost me.

Transparency is important before if and when will ever use it again. I have no idea whether the payout was correct.

I saw the sha miner found a new block worth 25 btc before the pool was shut down. Im curious as to how those blocks are divided up.

The SHA port was part of the P2Pool, it recieved 0.24btc for it's share of that block which has to get send out to the miners still. I will get that done today at some point.
I'm sorry, there were a few reasons for the abrupt end to the beta testing.  Most importantly was the fact that all of the features that were the reason it was still only in beta were finally all working.  Another was the falling NXT price, coupled with the fact that the pool had begun to be hit by a significant DDOS attack (we'll never know from who though).
The ~2 day break is allowing me to implement cloudflare as well as Astaro gateway devices (basically firewall/stateful packet inspectors) to be able to ensure that the pool won't be impacted by anything malicious in the future.
And transparency howso? When the SHA port goes back up on thursday you will still see the same historical hashrate info for every share submitted up to the end of the beta testing.  The scrypt ports as well will also have the historical data available again.

hashrate.org has had 600 visitors over the last 24 hours, I'd like to try and see if we can get 1000 more in the next 24 hours.
I'll be posting some great news to the site shortly about something that will run for the first few days after the opening.

I put it on the Blackcoin megathread with the headline rate of 0.009BTC/Mh/Day, as part of a conversation about the 'blackpool' so it didn't get deleted (blackpool is 0.004-0.005 atm). Legit use I feel  :D I'll keep it up, everyone do their bit  ;)

Ofcourse they will come back.

People visited the website to check what's happening. Some of them are spreading the word and some of them are waiting when the countdown is finished.

All of our Twitter accounts will make this possible.

I suppose you want a similar effect as the Blackcoin multipool, am i right?

my version:

Quote
The first multipool of Proof of Stake cryptocurrency finished beta stage: Bitcoin's future is Nxt
A team of passionate people have been working in last months on what has been referred to as Bitcoin 2.0: Nxt. Nxt is an advancement in the fundamental technology behind Bitcoin and brings with it an entirely new code base as opposed to being a simple fork of the existing code.  Nxt is one of the first implementations of some of the technologies that are considered to be 'second-generation cryptocurrency' such as decentralized messages system, peer to peer exchange, multigateways or distributed asset exchange. Nxt is also able to solve perhaps the biggest shortcoming Bitcoin has through its capability to process transactions virtually instantly. Nxt is simply faster and cheaper than Bitcoin and provides more features than Bitcoin and all its clones together.

This is as opposed to the traditional Bitcoin, which uses mining to create new coins.  There actually are other Bitcoin 'clone' coins, which use 'Proof of Stake'. But the problem with Blackcoin, Coin2, Communitycoin, Faircoin, Peercoin, Premine or Whitecoin is in lacking of special features they could provide and in using too slow transaction process. Scarcity may sometimes drive up price, but it does not create demand.  Demand is tied to the utility of that item, as well as how scarce that item is.  And it is not about the number of vendors, who accept their crypto. Look at Earthcoin, it crashed even when tons of shops were accepting it. Blackcoin, for example, has only slightly more utility than Bitcoin (a shorter confirmation time).  And a little group of pump and dumpers, who are willing to mine Blackcoin, but for just one simple reason – to dump it as soon as it gets over 50 thousand Satoshi.

Nxt, however, is at the forefront of a number of breakthrough cryptocurrency technologies and demand for these technologies will be at a premium in the future. You can never be sure, when Blackcoin follows the crash of Auroracoin, Mazacoin, Megacoin, Mintcoin, Pandacoins or Quarkcoin. But the crash will come.

In Nxt, there will be only ups in the future. Big ups. Why? Imagine, when the companies will be kickstarting via Nxt’s asset exchange.  Big companies with millions of customers. And it won’t be only a slight pump like Mastercoin’s Maidsafe-shares. Nxt asset exchange will be the fastest of all other solutions, so basically – the only useful decentralized exchange with multigateway.
Nxt is a brand new, written from the scratch, faster and cheaper than Bitcoin an all its clones!

The price for a single NXT 'coin' still experiences a great deal of daily volatility, similar to Bitcoin.  In order to help mitigate these daily fluctuations a mining pool has been created to help stabilize and increase the price of NXT.  Operating in limited beta test mode for over 30 days already, Hashrate has succeeded in already paying out to its miners the equivalent of over 15 Bitcoins worth of NXT.

NXT is available for trade on nearly all of the major cryptocurrency exchanges, like Bter or Cryptsy.

Did I miss something or why do BC users hate NXT? I just wrote in the BC multipool chat and within a few seconds I got at least three answers that NXT just would be shit and got banned immediately. I just asked to have a look at hashrate.org and set it maybe as second pool.

I'm thinking they are direct competition to our mining efforts so to maximize their profits they might discourage NXT...  :-\

They are very aggressive. It's true while they don't rational arguments. They are in deny and the atmosphere is crazy.

Nxt has good arguments and it's like an attack for BC people.

That makes sense. I mean I can somehow understand that I got banned, because I did some subtle advertising for another multipool but I didn't expect that much aggression.

The traduction of Salsacz text in french.

Quote

Here, in Europe, hashrate webpage is just an annoying clock alarm and it is redirected to http://countdown.onlineclock.net/alarm.html

Please fix this as soon as possible, new miners will give up if they see this.

I just wanted to say that I know the website is having some issues right now, but I don't want to take away from what pf has done.
He has done a great job enticing some new people to NXT with this indirect mining.  He has made the pool have some great payouts and implemented some good security.
It looks like he made one error on the website currently in not realizing the timer he used would use the timezone of the user viewing it.  I know this makes the side look very amateur right now, but it was an easily missed mistake.
I do hope he notices it soon and takes care of the issue, but I don't want to take away from all of his hard work.

In less than 3 hours though, all will be good and we'll all be back to mining  ;D

I just purged the cloudflare.net cache just to be on the safe side (I had not thought but that could have possibly still been serving the old site up to lots of people)

There is a technical question on the btt thread, a guy who has a lot of hash power. Something about btc p2pool and sha mining. I can't answer him :D

Multipool mines multiple algorithms (Scrypt-N, Grøstl, Skein, SHA3, XPM, etc.)?
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=579082.0
If we can do this?
This looks very cool ;D

Improvement proposal:

Could you please put the current sha and scrypt hashrate on the "hashrate.org/miner/[nxtaccount]" page?
(not only the hashrate history)

Then we have all miner specific info on one page for a quick look how well it goes!  ;)

Will do
The miner pages are also going to start showing a few things later tonight:
how many coins (of which type) you have mined in the current shift
(that's how the estimated numbers are calculated)

I also think that I've fixed the issue that the estimated earnings counters were having with the shift yesterday.

Cool, thanks!

I've received two payout transactions from the pool tonight: a smaller one and a bigger one.
Because the smaller one doesn't calculate to 10% of the bigger, I don't think that it's a bonus. Maybe something left from the beta mining?

Overnight the site had been DDOS'ed, I have identified the method that they took it offline with and mitigated it. Sorry for the delay.

I can't help but wonder if the DDOS attack might have something to do with the blackcoinpool copying the site design almost entirely
lol

You should update the coin on the main page with correct transparency:

Adding X11 to the multipool would be great,
I think X11 will very popular in summer.
