Appreciate the hard work everyone!

Also, if you haven't heard of it, Burstcoin is an innovative fork of Nxt, some people over there were considering sending some donations to your equivalent Burstcoin addresses (they may already have sent some so) in appreciation of the hard work that helps make Burst as awesome as it is.  However, they wanted the addresses to be registered to your public key first. Point being, go set up a wallet, and we'll send you some Burstcoin!

FYI, in Burst, you make any outgoing transaction from your wallet and it automatically registers your account.

I think it's about time we implement some sort of "distribution lists" directly into the protocol. One should be able to send payment (NXT, Asset, MS Currency) directly to the distribution list, and have the system automatically disperse funds to participants according to certain ratio ("participation level"). This is very similar to how Asset dividends are payed, except:

a) Anyone can pay to the list (as opposed to Asset issuer only)

b) Members can be added/removed by owner/moderator (and have their participation levels adjusted) at any time.  This is unlike Asset where there's no mechanism of taking back shares from owners.

This way we could create lists for various contributing teams (developers, promoters, etc) and have the community send money directly to the list. The teams themselves will have the freedom to set the participation levels within the list as they see fit.

The total sum of all participation levels within the list should always amount to 100%

Later, with the advent of the voting system, a self-governing distribution lists can be created where adding/removing members (or changing their participation levels) is done entirely by voting.

Such lists can be tremendously useful for managing assets as well. For example a list could include "Asset XYZ", which means “all current holders of XYZ based on their ownership percentage”. Now I advertise the list directly to the end-user (apps, websites, etc) and ask customers to pay directly into the list. Such payments are immediately disbursed to shareholders (as dividends). It results in a super efficient and 100% transparent accounting.

The nxt AM feature + the token feature is very powerful, this could be done with a 3rd party using these things fairly easily.

Just need a standard for it. Lets say a list is instanated by an alias using json format, the format gives us list name as well as all the accounts and their percentages, you could also use the token to sign the list with AMs.

The user would then pay to the alias which would trigger a specialized transaction scheme to distribute the funds according to the percentages.

Smart contracts might be able to do this, not 100% sure how those work though.

I like the "alias using json format" idea!

All we need now is "pay to alias" transaction type + "JSON standard for lists"...

What is the max length an alias can hold?

We have 1000 bytes to work with, so i suggest the following format, json would take up too much room.

2 byte message length
1 byte amount of accounts length
Description of list, send along with each TX as a descriptor, length defined above.
Then we have between 1 and 99 different account descriptors
8 bytes accountid (or asset id/msid)
2 bytes for values 1 - 10000 where each point is 0.01% of the distribution
Each account descriptor would be 10 bytes, so there can be up to 99 of them if there's no description.

My only reservation is that I'd personally prefer the possibility of having more than 99 members, but for the time being it will do. Especially if we can get new, bigger alias types in the future (like BLOB) with ability to hold several hundred KB of data. Naturally such aliases should be more expensive (like 1000x  the cost of a normal alias) to create and update. But they could also make the network much more lively - think logo images, artwork, biz plans, political manifestos, and even scripts.

For the large amounts of data I think the temp idea that JLP said would work well. I don't think it would be an efficient use of space to put entire images directly into the blockchain, It'd be much better to just reference them with a hash.

As for the more members for a list, they could be extended by referencing multiple AMs in the alias, but IMO 99 would be plenty for a feature like this.

Thanks Damelon for this useful list!

Is it possible to have a list of non core devs too, like asset devs and active promoters / organizers like u?

As a response Damelon has opened a new thread for this purpose:

This list should be part of the NRS UI - for example under Help / About

+1 I like this idea. You could then be sure it was a complete list as the devs would compile it themselves.

Yustas and mess are no longer active.

Kushti is no longer contributing to the core, but still around :)

Jones, are you still contributing to the core or active on your own projects? Please let us know. :)
