Title: Announcing Jelurida!
Post by: Damelon on October 07, 2016, 11:56:21 am
The Nxt development team, creators of the advanced and feature-rich blockchain Nxt, and designers of the upcoming and ground-breaking Ardor platform, are excited to announce the incorporation of Jelurida BV, a new start-up headquartered in the Netherlands.

Jelurida BV has been incorporated to protect the Intellectual Property rights of the Nxt Core Development team with respect to the Nxt, and, soon, Ardor, code.

Jelurida BV, as holder of the intellectual property rights for the Nxt software and the Ardor platform, aims to create a sustainable and thriving business around the Nxt ecosystem by providing software licenses, maintenance, and services to a new breed of blockchain-based applications. By establishing Jelurida BV, we simplify this process by allowing the company to act on behalf of the core developers.

The incorporation of Jelurida BV addresses a growing need of the blockchain industry to provide solutions for use in corporate environments and is targeted at creating a sustainable business model which will benefit the Nxt community in various ways such as a brand identification as well as a further statement to the integrity of the code. This will further encourage projects to consider using the Nxt and Ardor blockchains for their needs and thus increase their overall usage.

Jelurida will continue to release the Nxt software under the open source GPLv2 license, making it available for free use and modifications as long as any derived software is published under this same open source license.

Congratulations with the development company. As I understand it helps the developers of Nxt and Ardor continue their work on a legal and professional level?

Congratulations!

Now it will be an easier way to hire devs in the future with funds, Prevent stealing of code, Be more attractive for companies to get in contact and build solutions etc.

Good luck!!

It's a logical step forward.
The question (or concern) I can feel is, will this separate Nxt/Ardor token holders away from "those with power to decide"?
Will a Nxt/Ardor token holder mean you will be a passive watcher?
This is not a big concern in my eyes, as I think this is the ONLY way forward.
The devs and those who work with the platform need to get paid in some way.
Which mean they must get income from somewhere.

The question is, would one be better off to sell all Nxt/Ardor and apply for a position in Jelurida instead?

Good luck with it.
Does the name mean something ? I googled it but it only returns the announcements you made a bit everywhere. No ranking problem for that one.

Got my answer on slack.
"The way we want to create value for holders is by ensuring we deliver value in the form of the software and in attracting customers and users to the platform."

I missed the QA session yesterday but I just read it, and feel something should be said.

Some people seemed to feel anxious about the risk that Jean Luc and Riker get more involved in private blockchain than in Nxt/Ardor. Someone even said he feels "investors" where fooled..
But there never was investor in devs production. There was no commitment like : buy my coin/asset and that will fund me to work on it. Never. Or at least some donation funds that are probably close to be emptied. Those people forget that JL has been working for free as pure activism since.. when? yearS. Riker came to support as an "employee" of the donation funds.

Jelurida is just the natural way for them to try (no guarantee here!) to recover their investment by licencing their assets (copyright) or renting their competence.

They see private chains projects as an opportunity because that's where the big money is for the time being... behind closed doors.. and because making money is about working where the money is, and because private chain builder have a need of core dev knowledge. But, if they can work for interesting projects on the public chain, why would they not to? Although, in this area, there competence is probably less of unique interest and there is no licence fee to be collected.

Nxt is a great tech. BCNext and CFB "gave" (or sold it very very cheap) the invention to the world and those who've then work for years to industrialize the product (make it a full working one + quality source code) are now organizing to get return on investment.. for profit.. Not more. No surprise here, the GPLv2 appeared years ago.

If you are afraid that their time and energy will be sucked by banks, find funds and give them public projects for which they will be the best to work on.

Personally, I prefer to have them still be involved this way than seeing them be forced to quit or try manipulate trading with rumors...

Ardor is pure speculation of where crypto would required to be in many years, the value of your coins is in the use people make of them. Nxt tech has great value as is and to fully reveal, it only needs to be used with what has been already achieved. No more feature required. Building Nxt value is more than ever in the hands of its users than in the hands of the core devs..

For decentralized supporters, this must be a good thing if you do not mix up between price discovery dynamic and intrinsic value.

Hello there  :D
congratulation for this important change in the NXT / Ardor lifes  :D , as a company and an entity legally based, you can do many more things ...
you have just be careful and consult a lawyer and an accountant specialized in the taxation... in order to avoid that the authorities take the marketcap as part or capital of the company ... may be they will ask accounts and evidence about the first distribution of NXT... and this can quickly degenerate into a serious situation (fraud and tax evasion ...)
in the other side, when Ardor will be online, you will have to declare your 50% as earning or company capital at the market price and this will affect the amount to pay as taxes at the end...

in all cases you will avoid a lot of problems if you display and hold the company image and activity as a software factory and not a ripple like experience...

I know it's too soon for that question but how will cost a custom NXT clone produced by the company? clone mean the actual state of the software but just the currency name change whitout deep coding... the very basic thing...

and how will cost a custom NXT clone with deep coding whitout features additions... just a modification on the available things like the aliases system for my UUI... ?

Thank you and i wish you a lot of success  :D @++

I could not agree more with you and am happy that people see this.

Jelurida is aimed at sustainability, and however you turn it: this means being able to make a buck from your work.

Private blockchains (or hybrid blockchains or hybrid solutions for that matter) do not preclude public blockchain work in any way.
They support each other and should benefit the whole line of tools.

This is not some new way of doing things: this has been done in open source for a long time.

We already have lawyers and an accountant :)
Taxes and everything are of course covered completely. I can assure you this is a completely professional setup, not an amateurishly set up company.

Prices etc, we'll discuss in due time. As most solutions will be fully customised, we probably won't be able to give fixed prices anyway for a while.

At the moment: no.
Once we get up an running, there will certainly be openings, as we are aimed to expand in the future.
I cannot say what positions these would be, though, because I simply do not know yet.
