I just checked, I don't have domain NXTMesh.nxt.

It's with NXT-UWKJ-GFEV-AGY4-5C4YS account. Alias NXTMesh.

Technical: DNSChain IPv6 testing, troubleshooting, coding update:

Looking good.. Is the code in github or something? Happy to help test.

I know it looks exciting!

But, it's actually less exciting than you would expect. I was just testing if I could query DNSChain and it could reply with IPv6 address. I made a little change in DNSChain code, and it was replying IPv6 only queries.

Even with simple 'dig mypi.nxt' you would get only 'AAAA' record query replies. Means DNSChain was totally switched from IPv4 to IPv6 queries in this test. I was actually looking for a code in DNSChain which is responsible for 'A' record queries. And I found it. The very damn same code works for 'AAAA' queries too. So, I guess, I only need to put a condition over there to check if the JSON data is for IPv4 or IPv6, and query accordingly for 'A' record queries, or else 'AAAA' queries. Would also need to validate if the IP specified in that JSON data is valid IPv6 format.

According to Namecoin specifications the JSON Data should be set as:
ip for IPv4
ip6 for IPv6
tor for .onion etc.

http://wiki.namecoin.info/?title=Domain_Name_Specification_2.0#Value_field

So, the DNSChain just needs some conditions to be added to check of ip6 JSON tag in Alias Data field, and query for AAAA record. That might bring IPv6 support from NXT Alias system to DNSChain. I'm still getting to know DNSChain code, and as my understanding of DNChain code is clearing up, things are getting bit more clear, how can I play with it.

And I got a reply from DNSChain Devs. These are the links you may follow up or join the conversation:

Perhaps some sort of incentive to own one may help. Something involving an asset or currency solely for these NXT Pi's could work. What about some type of bonus bond scheme where NXT Pi's owners pool their NXT and each week random prizes are given out. Instead of everyone getting measly forging amounts, it's pooled and a few larger amounts are given out.

I don't actually get this point completely. I do understand there can be asset associated to Raspberry Pi, but afterwards how those Raspberry Pi owners will be rewarded I don't get that point.

I think this point is bit clear now. The thing is the RasPi owners is not so necessary to be online on Internet with such an OS which also works on MeshNET. So, the things will be like this I guess:
  • Some NXT nodes will be available publicly on Internet, and some will be behind firewall but connected to Internet. And some others won't be even connected to Internet at all, but connected to MeshNET (Alternative to Internet).
  • So, we'll have to have a NXT Forging pool over MeshNET then. Where it doesn't matter if people are connected to Internet or not, if they are connected to MeshNET, and they can reach other nodes in their local MeshNetork they can connect to some NXT Forging Pool, which is exclusively available on MeshNET.
  • This kind of NXT Forging Pool available on MeshNET will help many tech communities. NXT, CJDNS (MeshNET), DNSChain, and other NXT related projects.
  • The benefit of having a NXT Forging Pool over MeshNET would be it's free to connect and would be reachable with ease.
  • The benefit of combining all these technologies in one small package, is bringing new set of functionality, decentralized services, and introducing new network platform to the masses, who aren't much techno geek, but still are privacy and freedom conscious.

    The Glitchs:
    • With such Forging Pool, the system still goes centralized. Still needs trust on that Forging Pool. Should have something else which is still a decentralized and still automate whole forging process, and rewards distribution according to the forging power shared with Forging Pool.
    • May be that kind of thing would be much better when Smart Contracts arrive in NXT???

    Thoughts? Criticism?

    All welcome! :)

    Cheers,
    Satinder[/list]

i have access to a few rooftops in NYC. would it be possible to blast this wifi siginal everywhere with a powerful antenna? And then when people connect to the access point, they land on an info page to show them how to setup their own mesh and also access the decentralized internet?

Here some tech video about MeshNet:

i've hosted the NYCmesh network meetup group at my office before. But i'm not super familiar with mesh networking yet, i just know its handled by cjdns and the leading manufacturer of wireless networking is ubiquity. I've set up a 500 feet 5ghz point to point wireless connection before for a park fair and thought this would be really awesome if we blasted this on an Omni antenna on the 5ghz range (i tried 2.4ghz before and doesnt work well since every apartment has a 2.5ghz which causes alot of interference).

Everyone landing on the access point would learn about mesh and how to replicate the setup to setup more nodes and also access the NXT NRS. i think it would be awesome...

That would be the basic feature of this OS. :)

I haven't seen much votes since Wednesday on Project name. Means, the decision is left on me then?

While you're at it, decentralize Uber as well. You can call it "Unter"! You'll be a gazilionaire.

What are you talking about? The poll shows nxtmesh to be the winner. Go with that!

    Technical: DNSChain: IPv6 Support added.

Just finished coding, troubleshooting and testing of IPv6 support in DNSChain. To my tests it seems to be working fine.

But, I still doubt if at some point there are any errors or bugs. There shouldn't be, but still it's good if people could test and leave some feedback. Either here, or on my Github Repo.
Replace this file in your DNSChain installation to enable IPv6 support in DNChain:
    https://github.com/satindergrewal/dnschain/blob/master/src/lib/blockchain.coffee

Add this file along with nxt.coffee to enable .hype DNS:
    https://github.com/satindergrewal/dnschain/blob/master/src/lib/blockchains/hype.coffee

NXT Alias data should be according to NameCoin specifications (Valid JSON format).
Once have these files placed on correct place, restart DNSChain, and query for mypi.nxt for both IPv4 and IPv6 queries. Example:
    dig mypi.nxt
    dig mypi.nxt AAAA

    IPv6 isn't pointing anywhere.

Let me know how did it go with your tests.

    Cheers,
    Satinder

Appears to work great in my tests :)  I have updated just uppit.hype at the moment to the namecoin json standard and it resolves fine.

I'll play around with swapping out NxtHypeDns with DNSchain over the next few days and compare performance.. once i'm happy i'll start to update all the other hype dns records to the json format.

    Good work!

    Awesome!

http://uppit.nxt also opens the hyperboria reddit clone website now.  8)

I was having issue setting up uppit.nxt for ipv6. Checked your JSON format and fixed it. Correct data field format:
    Code: [Select]
    {"ip6": ["fc3a:956e:4b69:1c1e:5ebc:11a5:3e71:3e7e"]}

    Cool!

Now is the time to make a plugin for NXT which can Register .NXT and .HYPE DNS.

    I'm sure there'll be demand. :)

    Grab the opportunity.

Might get to other apps and services later, when NXT stuff is automated on it.

Right now I'm concentrating to make the basic systems and apps features to work as they should be.

To me biggest task in all of these was to make DNSChain enable with IPv6, so that we could use NXT as Decentralised DNS system. This makes MeshNET easier to get started with.

I'll keep this thread updated as I progress.

It's really nice you showed your interest to include BitNet VPNCoin. If there's any other feature or application you'd like to see in this project, please submit the request here, till the website gets ready, or this thread becomes a separate section as one the NXT Projects.
