100 blockchain related apps
« on: September 04, 2016, 06:27:25 am »

I'd like to start a thread where community can write their suggestion for apps they could use to interact with the Nxt blockchain. The standard browser client may not have all the functions, some functions in it can be too complicated to use for newbies, or something else.

What is your dream app that you badly need to do something in Nxt which you can't do now or you want a nicer looking interface or something to help you with every day tasks? Give your ideas. Sometimes programmers don't know what users regard as tedious, difficult tasks, at the same time users may not know if those tasks can be automated and made easy. These can be turned into apps to make interaction with complex Nxt capabilities a fun process for everyone.

I'll start with:
lottery, betting, asset price checker which I did recently to practise. They can be improved obviously, I only learn coding, feel free to rewrite them and add more functionality.

If you have a library of functions in any language, please write the link here too, so it's all in one place.
Mods: if this is not the right section for this sort of thread, please move it to the right place.

I have several examples of Nxt API programming as well as a Nxt addon (not a plugin but an extension of the server using the addon capability) at https://github.com/ScripterRon.

More than a year ago someone came up with the idea of using NXT to track software license keys.
Back then we didn't have phased transactions and singleton assets and we didn't have anyone who was free to implement this.

The idea is that when a vendor sells a copy of his software, think about JetBrains selling IntelliJ , the license key provided is the passphrase to an NXT account and the id of a singleton asset representing the copy. Each copy of the software is represented as a singleton asset created by the software vendor and assigned to the user account.
When starting the software it uses the license key as the passphrase to connect to the NXT network and make sure the singleton asset still belongs to the account.

The vendor, before releasing the license key can submit a delayed phased transaction which moves the token out of the account to represent license expiration.
This type of license check is more robust since the user cannot change the date of the local machine for example and the vendor does not have to setup a licensing server.

There is a number of lists of small and big programming challenges and solutions.
https://github.com/karan/Projects-Solutions
http://www.dreamincode.net/forums/topic/78802-martyr2s-mega-project-ideas-list/

This website looks interesting. It can possibly be leveraged to showcase Nxt to a plethora of programmers with different backgrounds. Some of the Nxt app ideas that are written here can be posted to this website and spark the interest to program apps on Nxt. What do you think?

I am desperately looking for an app or add-on or plugin to make the export of Nxt transactions easier than now in order to Import them into cointracking.info
For now, I have to call an API function to get a set of transactions in JSON format, convert the JSON text into an Excel file, copy this Excel file into a predefined Excel template and use this filled out template for the import function in cointracking.info

cointracking.info is a valuable tool to track all cryptocoin transactions in particular to generate the tax report that will be included in the annual tax declaration.

With the future Ardor transactions on the new blockchain, things will be getting much more complex because of the child chain transactions, forging of ARDR and bundling activities; this can no more be handled manually

So an app for export of all transactions between a start and end date would be very helpful for me both for the Nxt and the Ardor platforms.
