Title: [ANN] Nxt Glossary - suggestions welcomed
Post by: Daedelus on March 26, 2014, 02:27:27 pm
Please make requests for new entires to the Nxt Glossary here.

The Nxt Glossary can be found >>>>> https://wiki.nxtcrypto.org/wiki/Glossary <<<<<

It is aimed at beginner and intermediate crypto users, with links to technical discussions in the forum for all the smart pants' in the community. You know who you are  :D

The descriptions are pitched at the level of:

"The world is round", not "The world is spherical with, due to the rotation on it's axis, a bulge on its centre and also due to gravitational..."

The descriptions assume as little knowledge as I think is appropriate when I write each entry  ;) You can also report inaccuracies here. I have a backlog of items I have found but I will get round to others you have  ;D

Alias
Curve25519
Sha256 -> Point to Hash-Function

(without need for TLC)

I have been meaning to add all the core features too, AM is missing as well as AS (and the CCT Atomic CCT and Atomic Asset Trading that CIYAM was talking about the other day...)

So take those as given  :)

This'll take some research...  :-\

I just meant, the entry could be like this:

Sha256
See Hash Function.

Phew! I see what you mean  :-[

I had read CIYAM and James talk about floating *point* numbers, then mix some more maths in with SHA-256.... you get some horrendous maths concept that makes up the "point to hash-function"!!!!  :o

I'm glad it isn't  ;D

Nope, nope  :)

it's "just" a glossary - good to find words the NXT community uses, but for in-depth consult wiki/source code/whitepaper

accordingly:

Curve25519
Curve25519 is an elliptic curve, developed by cryptography expert Dan Bernstein, for fast Diffie-Hellman key agreement.

(One of the smarter guys will certainly object, if this is not correct)

Daedelus, if you keep this up we'll have to rethink the way the Glossary is set up on the wiki, to make it more maintainable. I'm sure there's an extension we can use. I'll do some digging.

How dare you! This will add three bajillion dollars to the market cap!

I'm none the wiser  ;D ;D

I thought it was a Hash Function, is it actual just an elliptical curve that is useful for use in a Hash Function?

Thanks  ;D

Great! No problem, you're the boss of this starfish leg. That is probably not right but I haven't done my spider/starfish reading homework yet  :D

Keep up the good work!

As for your remarks up-thread - I'm never sure how serious you mean things - but anyway:

"just" - I specifically used the quotes, to symbolize how very, very, very important your glossary is, but nonetheless gives possibility to keep it short because that's the nature of glossary entries  ;D

"Curve25519" - I'm not one of the smart guys, but I think it is mainly used like certificates are used, e.g. in typical internet shops. It allows to ensure that you communicate with the correct other party. Maybe you can also use them for hashing only... Smart guys shed some light on that matter please.

I was only joking  ;D ;D Everyone knows it will add four bajillion dollars to the market cap!

I knew what you meant, I just deliberately misinterpreted it  ;) Don't worry, I don't take myself seriously enough on here to get mad  ;D ;D

I'll keep going!!

63 entries and counting now  ;D

I have added it first to the backlog, but it is also probably hardest to do!

I'll do a draft tomorrow...  ;D ;D ;D

P.S. forging is there but it could probably do with a redirect to TF and a spruce up  :D

https://wiki.nxtcrypto.org/wiki/BCNext%27s_Plan  Part Three

Who has written these and when?
"One day he will return with his main project, under his real name. Don't try to learn the real identity of BCNext. He intentionally copied the styles and ideas of different people. If you think you've found him, you are likely wrong. BCNext never existed. This "sock puppet" was created only for Nxt, and will never appear again. "

They are BCNexts words, paraphrased by CfB. They are the third part of bcnexts essay, didn't get good reviews ;D the link needs adding to the wiki I suppose.

Released on 3rd of april by cfb as just a link in the mega thread, IIRC.

I'll get on the glosssry items, I like the ones for the history of nxt especially

From a PM, for me to get around to  ;D

****
Saw you are involved with the glossary - i took a look today and found one entry not being excakt in my remembrance: HiberNXT

I hope you're not insulting giving you this hint instead of taking action myself, but...

I remember the discussion about Hibernext (several weeks ago) that Hibernext is not the same as Anti- or DarkNXT , but instead Kind of NXT "Locked" in an account apparently no one knows the Pass for ... for example because someone sent some next to a wrong but "existing" or valid account. Typically such accounts don't have a public key (yet), because no one ever sent some nxt from this account. So you never can tell for sure if an account with no public key is with hibernxt or created from someone who forgot to make the infamous 1nxt transaction to secure his account..... someone even made some fun out of it and send quite large amounts to special publicly announced accounts to purposefully create hiberNXT as a "bounty" for trying to bruteforce those not secured accounts ....

Regards an Chapeau for all the work you are doing,
****

Hmm, I have noticed this since you mentioned it. Do you know why it is BTT? BiTcoinTalk?  :D

Thanks

Would someone like to make a more detailled description of what 1984 means to NXT?

There is several links from BCNext to the novel of George Orwell, i have implemented it in a game on my website and I would like to point to an "article" in the Glossary.

I offer 100 NXT reward for someone who has fun doing that ;)

Req. would be, what does NXT have in common with 1984? What are the links BCNext has drawn, what could be his reason? Half a page should be enough, if more - you are welcome ^^

ps: please pm me once ready for the bounty
