[ANN] [API] FreeMarket Lite - Browse and Post Ads on FreeMarket
« on: November 11, 2014, 04:00:53 pm »

UPDATE:

Unforunately I have decided to no longer run freemarketlite. I have closed the site.

However, the freemarket team has opened a freemarketlite of their own at freemarketlite.cc

I will not be hosting/running this site.

///////

Browse and post ads on the FreeMarket without installing any software!

Nxt FreeMarketLite is a secure site where you can shop the FreeMarket from the convenience of any web browser.

freemarketlite.com

UPDATE 3---
Added buy functionality

UPDATE 2---

Got a new vps and ssl certificate, everything should be smooth now.

https://freemarketlite.com

UPDATE---

Well after a lot of effort and a fair bit of hair pulling, I have added the ability to Post ads to the FreeMarket!

now, to deal with improved security, the old site no longer works. now, you need to go to:

https://freemarketlite.com/

I had to sign my own SSL certificate, so it gives a warning, but it should be fine. If there is enough use, I can buy a certificate. I have posted a few test items already.

I strongly suggest you do not post using your main investment account. Of course, browsing carries no risk.

The api still works the same.

Hi Everyone,

I got frustrated having to run NRS and then FreeMarket when I just wanted to check for any listing updates, so I wrote a simple web server to do this for me. I thought I would share it with you too.  :)

Once it loads the list of all items, you can click any item to see more about it.

It is slow to make the request, as FreeMarket takes a while to return the data (about 7 seconds). Please don't hit the refresh button a bunch of times lol, although I should probably add some rate limiting for this. Node.js does async pretty well but I'm not sure about FreeMarket itself.

If you like it, please consider donating some to cover the hosting cost of the vps.

Anyway, here it is:

Maybe you can employ some kind of caching? And update automatically once every minute or so?

Yes, I already planned to do that. I originally made this for myself last night, but if there is demand, I can certainly add some optimization and additional features. I will add rate limiting and auto updating though. That way when you log in, your browser will be automatically given the latest  (< 1 min.) catalog.

Updated!

The browser, dubbed FreeMarket Lite now updates on a loop and will automatically update all clients whenever a new entry is found. It no longer calls FreeMarket again whenever a connection is made (thank God!  ;D)

Also, some small frontend improvements. More to come.

Site is down, seems cpu usage was too high. Maybe too many users.

 :)

I figured why not go ahead and create a simple API for anyone to use? This way, they won't have to build their own server from scratch.

http://162.243.13.81/all_listings returns a Json-formatted string of all current FreeMarket listings.

I'm sure this will be expanded at some point.

Please do! I just reduced CPU usage significantly, it should be quite stable now!

Something wrong with your https certificate.
BTW you can run FreeMarket on the testnet. Check the conf file for it.

Yes, I used OpenSSL to sign it. Need to buy one. Great, I'll use testnet. Does NRS need to be on testnet as well?

Would it be a good idea to run it on a subdomain of nxtfreemarket.com?  There's already so many sites for NXT, I was wondering if it would be a good idea to reuse some domains if possible.

Just an idea
